Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Lizard Man

"I'm sorry to have to do this, but I have to. You know, it's a necessary safety procedure," Doctor Reed said to Joseph.

He signaled the two assistants to step forward and strap Joseph down with safety restraints, securing him firmly to the hospital bed.

Because the dangers of this experiment were unknown, this was an essential safety measure.

"Alright, Joseph. Get some good rest. When you wake up, you'll find yourself cured," Doctor Reed comforted him.

Unfortunately, the hollow words brought no real sense of security and only highlighted Reed's guilt.

Joseph, tied to the hospital bed, did not reply. His fervent hope for the experiment's success now surpassed anyone else's. He was still young and did not want to lie in bed like this forever.

Doctor Reed left the operating room and sealed the door. He stood in the monitoring room, observing Joseph's changes through the camera.

The mutation from the Lizard gene was faster than expected. In just twenty minutes, Joseph's body began to change, and his severed limbs started to grow.

Like silkworms spinning cocoons, calluses grew layer by layer at the severed limbs. This was actually a state of rapid skin regeneration followed by rapid cell death.

"Provide Joseph with a large amount of artificial nutritional supplements to accelerate limb repair," Reed said.

He was somewhat surprised by the Osborn Group's serum for this trial. If it truly succeeded, it would change the world.

He also held some expectations, so he increased Joseph's nutritional intake. After all, growing severed limbs was a consumptive process that used the body's energy and nutrients.

Emil Blonsky watched Joseph's legs grow rapidly, his eyes burning as he looked at the serum in his hand. The ten thousand dollars was well spent. Since I already know the experimental results, it's time for me to go.

Emil Blonsky walked out. He was now heading to undergo the Super Soldier program experiment.

He would become stronger and younger.

Under Reed's command, the nutrient solution that had been slowly injected into Joseph began to flow faster.

The large amount of nutrition supplemented Joseph's internal consumption, making his severed limbs grow even quicker.

Joseph himself felt it most clearly. He sensed his originally incomplete limbs growing rapidly.

The growth came with excruciating pain, as if his bones were being shattered piece by piece and then reassembled.

But he did not care. He had experienced far worse pain. Do you know how painful it is to have your spine brutally broken? How much pain is it to have both legs twisted into a pretzel?

The greater pain was the slow process of waiting to die, which was simply despair-inducing.

Who knows how long it had been, but to Joseph it felt like an eternity of torment. He no longer felt the pain of regenerating limbs. Instead, he began to feel new sensations.

These were sensations he had not felt since his spine was fractured—feeling in his arms, fingers, thighs, calves, and even his third leg.

Despite being tied to the hospital bed, he tried to move his newly re-sensitized wrists and thighs.

This feeling was truly miraculous. No healthy person could understand the pain of such a disability.

Surprisingly, the entire process took less than three hours.

As Joseph moved, the calluses on his new limbs began to fall off layer by layer. His two new thighs allowed him to stand again, and the skin of his new limbs was as smooth as a baby's.

"This is incredible! It's a miracle of humanity!" Joseph exclaimed.

Suddenly, a deep pain from his bone marrow shattered the joy he had just felt from gaining new limbs.

The rampant Lizard genes replicated and spread rapidly within his body at an irreversible speed.

His gene chain was quickly destroyed. Fewer and fewer of his human genes remained, while more and more Lizard genes took over.

The genetic changes began to show on the surface of his body. Starting from the newly regenerated limbs, Joseph's skin turned green little by little.

Lizard-like scales began to form, his body swelled, and his muscles grew wildly like an inflating balloon.

Meanwhile, the machine supplying nutrients continued working diligently, intensifying his transformation.

His hands transformed into enormous beast claws. His original fingernails became deadly sharp, and a three-meter-long tail grew behind him.

His crimson eyes glowed with a bloodthirsty glint.

Joseph, now mutated into a monster, had not completely lost his mind yet. This result—turning into a humanoid lizard—was not what he wanted.

He wanted to be a man, not a monster.

His anger had nowhere to vent. Joseph's eyes grew redder, and the rationality in them grew weaker. The part of the Lizard gene that amplified anger and bestiality began to take over.

"I will make you pay!" Joseph roared.

His massive body charged outward. Whether it was Hulk, General Ross, Emil Blonsky, or the person who had injected him with the serum, he wanted all of them dead.

Emil Blonsky did not know what happened afterward, because he had already arrived at the military base where General Ross was located.

General Ross looked at Blonsky calmly and asked, "Have you thought it over?"

"Of course. I like to fight," Blonsky replied without hesitation.

"You like to fight? A born soldier?" General Ross offered no comment. He looked at Blonsky's gloomy face and said, "Are you still bothered by what happened last time?"

"To be honest, sir," Blonsky sighed, "last time was the most humiliating battle I've ever fought in my life."

Some time ago in Brazil, Blonsky had led his personally trained special forces team to apprehend Bruce Banner.

He had initially thought the mission would be straightforward, even though his superiors had repeatedly emphasized that the target was extremely dangerous.

But he could tell at a glance that Bruce Banner was merely a frail scholar with no military training whatsoever. Boy Scout training did not count.

Blonsky had secretly guessed that this Banner might be a civilian staff member of some terrorist organization, responsible for managing funds, manufacturing weapons, and the like, and privy to many secrets.

That was why the higher-ups demanded he be captured alive.

But when the operation began, Blonsky realized how wrong he had been.

The frail scholar had transformed into a green behemoth, impervious to bullets and capable of bowling with forklifts.

The battle had been one-sided. The special operations team involved in the encirclement was completely wiped out. Currently, Blonsky was the only one still standing.

The rest were either dead or disabled veterans. He had just come out of the hospital for disabled veterans.

He had also brought along a little something good he had bought for ten thousand dollars.
