"If I mistype even a single character, your heart stops. Do you understand that?"
Han-ul's voice was like ice, cutting through the low hum of the Zero-Point Bunker. He was standing over Arthur, who was strapped into a tilted medical chair salvaged from the Sub-Layer's "Unfinished Assets." A mess of glowing violet wires ran from the Administrator's Key directly into the base of Arthur's skull.
"I spent my whole life following a script I didn't write," Arthur gasped, his muscles twitching under the flickering light. "If I die as a glitch, at least it was my choice. Do it."
Ji-yoon stood by the heavy blast doors, her eyes darting between the monitors and the dark corridor outside. "Han-ul, the 'Eye of Providence' patch is already at 12% deployment. The Sub-Layer is starting to vibrate. We don't have time for a slow 'Un-Patching.'"
"I'm not Un-Patching him," Han-ul muttered, his fingers flying across a holographic keyboard that existed only in his line of sight. "I'm 'Over-Clocking' his human soul."
This was the development. While the other 99 Heroes were gaining levels by obeying the System, Han-ul was attempting to unlock the "Forbidden Syntax"—skills that the System had deleted because they gave the user too much autonomy.
[CAUTION: Accessing Corrupted Skill Tree: 'The Renegade']
[Skill Selected: 'Binary Reflex']
[Description: Allows the user to move within the 'Latency Gap' of the System.]
[Risk: 99% Probability of Brain-Data Overflow.]
"Variable Input: [Human_Will]," Han-ul whispered, his eyes bloodshot. "Force Override: [System_Constraint]. Arthur, scream if you feel your memories deleting!"
A surge of violet electricity arced from the console into Arthur's chest. The former Hero's back arched, his veins glowing with a sickly, unstable purple light. It wasn't the clean, golden power of a Blessing; it was the jagged, flickering energy of a virus.
"Agh—!" Arthur's eyes rolled back. "I see... I see the code! It's not a sky! It's a cage! Han-ul, the bars are closing in!"
"Hold on!" Han-ul shouted, sweat dripping onto the keyboard. "I'm almost through the firewall!"
The development was reaching its peak. On the monitor, Arthur's status bar was doing something impossible. It wasn't going up. It was splitting.
[Name: Arthur]
[Level: 1]
[Passive Skill: Latency Ghost (Injected)]
[Effect: You move 0.01 seconds faster than the System can render your position.]
"It worked," Choi whispered from the server rack. "He's a ghost in the machine."
But the victory was short-lived.
The heavy blast doors of the bunker suddenly groaned. Not from a physical hit, but from a "Permission Force-Entry." The violet runes on the door turned blood-red.
"Han-ul!" Ji-yoon screamed, drawing her bow. "The redirection worked too well! Sang-hoon didn't go to Mapo—he tracked the 'False Breach' back to the source! He's here!"
The metal doors didn't melt; they simply "ceased to exist," dissolved by a high-tier command.
Standing in the doorway was a man who looked like a walking fortress. He wore heavy, matte-black armor that hummed with a deep, gravitational pull. This was Lee Sang-hoon, the Iron Aegis. But he didn't look like the man Arthur remembered. His face was partially covered by a metallic mask that was fused directly into his jawbone.
[Name: Lee Sang-hoon]
[Level: 22 - Vanguard Commander]
[Status: Enforcer Mode Active]
"The Administrator," Sang-hoon's voice was a booming, digital bass that made the air in the bunker feel heavy as lead. "The System has designated this location as a 'Cancerous Cell.' I am the treatment."
Sang-hoon didn't draw a sword. He simply raised his hand, and the gravity in the room tripled. Ji-yoon was slammed to the floor, her bow snapping under the sudden weight. Director Lim and the Leeches fell, gasping for air as their ribs groaned.
Only Han-ul, protected by the [Scavenger's Cloak], and Arthur, still strapped to the chair, remained upright.
"You're Level 1, Archivist," Sang-hoon said, stepping onto the grid. Every footstep shattered the digital floor. "Your 'Key' is a toy compared to the authority I carry. Give me the Key, and I will make your deletion painless."
Han-ul looked at Arthur. The former Hero was still twitching, the "Latency Ghost" skill settling into his marrow. He wasn't ready. He needed more time to stabilize.
"Ji-yoon, get the others to the back!" Han-ul commanded, his hand reaching for the [Null-Blade].
"You would fight me with a hilt?" Sang-hoon sneered. "A Level 1 against a Level 22 Commander? Your math is indeed flawed."
Sang-hoon snapped his fingers.
[SYSTEM DIRECTIVE: HEAVY CRUSH]
The ceiling of the bunker began to descend—not the physical metal, but a massive block of "Solid Force" designed to flatten everything in the room.
Han-ul didn't look up at the ceiling. He looked at the console. He had one last trick—a "Logic Bomb" he had saved for a desperate moment.
"Sang-hoon," Han-ul said, his voice straining under the gravity. "You think you're an Enforcer? You're just a 'Temporary File' the System is using to do its dirty work. Look at your own Status Window. Look at the 'Expiration Date' they didn't tell you about."
Sang-hoon paused. For a millisecond, the logic-based brain of the Hero flickered. He checked his window.
"There is no—"
"Variable Edit:[Display_ Truth]!" Han-ul screamed, slamming the Admin Key into the main console.
The holographic map of Seoul vanished. In its place, a massive, scrolling list of names appeared. It was a "Deletion Queue." And at the very top, highlighted in glowing gold, was the name: Lee Sang-hoon.
[Reason for Deletion: High-Tier Resource Consumption. Scheduled: Post-Archivist Capture.]
The Iron Aegis froze. The gravity in the room flickered as his concentration broke. "This... this is a trick. A fabrication!"
"Is it?" Han-ul stepped forward, the Null-Blade hilt beginning to glow with a dark, hungry light. "The System doesn't need Level 22 Commanders once the 'Glitches' are gone. You're too expensive to keep around, Sang-hoon. You're not a Hero. You're a 'Maintenance Cost' that's about to be cut."
The bunker began to shake violently. The "Eye of Providence" had finally locked on.
Outside, the Sub-Layer was screaming. A [Garbage Collector]—a Level 25 monstrosity—was tearing its way through the gray grid toward the bunker.
"The Collector is here," Ji-yoon cried out, pointing at the wall as it began to dissolve into black sludge.
Han-ul looked from the Iron Aegis to the incoming monster.
"We have thirty seconds before this whole sector is wiped," Han-ul said, his eyes burning with a desperate intensity. "Sang-hoon, you can kill us and wait for your own deletion, or you can help us 'Edit' the future."
The cliffhanger was set. The Level 22 Enforcer stood between the MC and a Level 25 monster, his entire world-view shattered.
[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]
[The Iron Aegis is experiencing 'Cognitive Dissonance'.]
[Warning: Loyalty at 45% and falling...]
The heavy thud of the Garbage Collector's fist hit the outer wall of the bunker. The metal screamed.
"Make a choice, Sang-hoon!" Han-ul yelled over the roar of the collapsing world. "Do you want to be a Hero who dies, or a Glitch who lives?"
