After feeding the twins, Jessica went upstairs to freshen up as the rest of the household trooped in from training. She had made a firm decision not to speak to Kai after he had told her, or rather instructed her, to go to the luncheon with him.
Not that it had bothered him in the slightest. He had worn that annoying smirk of his all through the twins' breakfast, as though her silence were the funniest thing he had seen all week.
As she climbed the stairs, Odelia's perky voice floated up from the hallway below, thanking Dennis for a good training session.
Jessica paused with her hand on the bannister and sighed. It suddenly struck her that she and Odelia had not had a single moment alone together since they arrived. So she stopped at the top of the stairs, folded her arms across her chest, and waited.
Odelia appeared in no time, a little flushed and very pleased with life, and smiled up at her.
Jessica rolled her eyes. "You seem to be enjoying this place way too much."
