After a few hours of arguing, sulking and one very dramatic flop onto the bed, Odelia finally forced Jessica into a crisp white shirt and a pair of black trousers.
"There," Odelia said, stepping back and admiring her work like an artist with a finished painting. "Simple. Classy. Expensive-looking, even though it isn't."
"I look like a waitress," Jessica said, staring at herself in the mirror.
"You look like a waitress who owns the restaurant."
Jessica sighed. The truth was, she didn't have a single formal dress or anything nice enough for a luncheon. A luncheon in Aethelwulf sounded like the kind of event that required an updo and a string of pearls, neither of which she possessed.
Everything she owned was either for work or for sleeping in. That was probably why Kai wanted to take her to the shopping centre first. The thought made her cheeks warm.
