Chapter 126 - 128.The Signal Beyond

For a moment—

Victory hung in the air.

The battlefield around Mars was quiet.

The Harvester fleet—shattered.

Debris drifting.

Signals fading.

Human ships held position, damaged but alive.

Adrian leaned back, exhaling.

"Okay… now that felt like a win."

Elara didn't answer.

Because her eyes were locked on one thing.

The Titan.

Still alive.

Still transmitting.

"Olympus," she said.

The system responded instantly.

UNKNOWN SIGNAL — ACTIVE

The display zoomed out.

Far beyond Mars.

Beyond the remains of the Harvester fleet.

Into deep space.

Adrian frowned.

"That signal…"

"It's going far."

"How far?"

Elara whispered,

"Beyond the system."

The Architect's voice followed.

"Far beyond."

The black spacecraft shifted slightly.

As if reacting.

As if recognizing something.

Adrian glanced at it.

"You know what that is."

A pause.

Then—

"Yes."

Not reassuring.

Not at all.

The Titan pulsed weakly again.

Its core unstable.

But still functioning.

Still sending the signal.

Adrian pointed at it.

"Can we just… finish it?"

Elara checked the data.

"It's heavily damaged."

"But its core is unstable."

"If we destroy it now…"

"It could trigger a localized collapse."

Adrian blinked.

"…define collapse."

"A gravitational implosion."

"Centered in Mars orbit."

He exhaled.

"Okay, so blowing it up is still a bad idea."

"Yes."

The Titan's signal continued.

Reaching farther.

Deeper.

Faster.

Then—

Something answered.

Olympus detected it immediately.

A faint pulse.

From deep space.

Adrian stared at the screen.

"…that's not good."

Elara zoomed in.

The signal wasn't alone.

More appeared.

One.

Then three.

Then dozens.

All responding.

All connecting.

The Architect's voice dropped.

"This is not a Harvester response."

Adrian looked at him.

"Then what is it?"

A pause.

Then—

"Something older."

Silence filled the chamber.

Adrian blinked.

"…older than the Harvesters?"

"Yes."

The signals grew stronger.

Clearer.

Closer.

The map expanded further.

And then—

Shapes appeared.

Far beyond the edge of the solar system.

Not ships.

Not fleets.

Something else.

Massive structures.

Drifting.

Dormant.

Until now.

Adrian whispered,

"Those… aren't ships."

"No," the Architect said.

"They are not."

Elara's voice dropped.

"Then what are they?"

The answer came slowly.

Heavier than anything before.

"Guardians."

Adrian frowned.

"Guardians of what?"

The Titan pulsed again.

The signal intensified.

The distant structures reacted.

Lights flickered across them.

Systems awakening.

The Architect continued.

"They are part of an ancient network."

"Designed to monitor… and control."

Adrian crossed his arms.

"Control what?"

A pause.

Then—

"Everything."

The Olympus chamber fell silent again.

Because that answer—

Was worse than expected.

Elara whispered,

"You mean… civilizations?"

"Yes."

"Entire systems?"

"Yes."

"Galaxies?"

The Architect didn't answer immediately.

Which was answer enough.

Adrian shook his head.

"Okay… that's not real."

"It is."

The distant structures began moving.

Slowly.

Awakening from whatever dormant state they had been in.

Their signals grew stronger.

More organized.

More aware.

Adrian pointed at the screen.

"They're coming here?"

"No," the Architect said.

"They are observing."

"Evaluating."

Elara understood.

"The Titan's signal… triggered them."

"Yes."

Adrian frowned.

"So what happens now?"

The Architect's voice turned serious.

"Now they decide."

"Decide what?"

A pause.

Then—

"If your species should continue to exist."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Adrian let out a breath.

"Wow."

"So we went from alien invasion…"

"To cosmic judgment."

Elara didn't react outwardly.

But her mind was already moving.

Fast.

Calculating.

Understanding.

The Titan pulsed one last time.

Then—

Its core flickered.

And went dark.

Completely.

Adrian stared.

"…did it just die?"

Elara scanned it.

"Yes."

"The Titan is inactive."

The battlefield was truly over now.

The Harvester fleet destroyed.

Their command vessel gone.

Mars orbit clear.

But—

It didn't feel like victory.

Because far beyond—

The real threat had just awakened.

The Architect spoke again.

"This changes everything."

Adrian looked at him.

"Yeah, no kidding."

"What do we do?"

A pause.

Then—

"For the first time…"

"I do not know."

That was the moment everything shifted.

Because until now—

The Architect had always had answers.

Now—

He didn't.

Elara stepped forward slightly.

Her voice calm.

But firm.

"Then we find out."

The distant structures continued to awaken.

Watching.

Waiting.

And somewhere—

Something vast…

Turned its attention toward Earth.

Adrian exhaled slowly.

"Well…"

He looked at the screen.

"Looks like we just passed one war…"

"And unlocked a much bigger one."
