Lyan
It was already Friday. I woke up feeling up and almost jumped out of bed before my alarm sounded. I was so excited to finally go to the beach that I had my bags packed since Jack told me we'd be going.
I had everything in two bags where I'd put all my toothbrushes, panties, shirts and pants along with some food I had managed to sneak from the cafeteria.
Fluffy's stuff had arrived on Thursday and it was all neatly packed into one of my bags. We had argued for a while whereas Fluffy should come, but I had made it clear that no Fluffy meant no me, so now Fluffy was coming too. I didn't see why they didn't want Fluffy there. He was adorable and except for that smaaaall incident with Oscar he had never attacked anyone. He was just a little ball of fluff.
" You're harmless, aren't you?"
Fluffy just looked at me with a knowing look from where he was trying to eat the wall.
" Come on, let's go!" Jack shouted from his room.
" Coming!" I grabbed all my bags and dragged them through the floor.
I left all my bags near the couch and went back to pick up Fluffy. When I came back my bags were nowhere to be seen and half of the guy's junk was gone.
" Where are my bags?" I asked Jack.
" Orus took them to the car"
" You guys have a car?" That was new. I thought they would magic themselves to the resort or some shit like that.
" Yeah. It's Mark's car, but we all drive it"
" Can I drive? Please" I put on my best puppy eyes and looked at Mark.
" Sure, we were going to take turns driving anyway"
I dropped the puppy eyes and smiled. I was going to finally drive a car.
Saying it was a car was an understatement. The thing was like a freaking limousine. There were four back seats, all with enough space to stretch our legs to our hearts content and it even had a small snack and drink bar inside. The whole car shone in the still dark day. It was still very early, but the guys liked to start moving soon, so here we were.
Inside Orus was already in the steering wheel, waiting for us to get in. All my bags were in the trunk along with the guys stuff. That's when I looked at the top of the car.
" What the fuck?" I asked no one in particular while I pointed to the multiple bags stuck to the roof of the car, strapped to it by a few ropes.
" There was no more room" Jack answered while he entered the car.
" Don't worry. None of yours are there" Mark guided me to the car, lightly pressing his hand against my back.
Hearing my stuff wasn't up there relaxed me, but it was still a hazard. The rope could snap and all the bags would end up in the middle of the road.
I took my seat in the middle, between Mark and Jack and hugged Fluffy tightly, but the Yisuro jumped from my arms and hid under the front seat.
When I looked up I saw the roof was bending downwards. Just what the fuck had they put up there?
" I still don't like it" All that stuff breaking the car roof and hitting us wasn't too far fetched.
" Don't worry. I drive so smoothly you won't even feel like you're in a car"
Orus was a lier.
As soon as he started the car the whole thing jumped forward. I had to grab Mark and Jack to not hit my head against the front seat.
" That was smooth?"
Orus looked at me through the mirror with a baffled expression, as if he didn't know what I was talking about.
" Yeah, that was smooth"
I looked at Jack and Mark for support, but they too were looking at me as if I had said something weird.
" You don't think that was smooth? Then you're definitely gonna hate Mark's driving"
" Hey, my driving technique is the best"
" What technique? All you do is hit the gas pedal and hope the police isn't anywhere near"
" That's a killer technique. I can cut the time it gets to get somewhere in half"
" Because you drive like a maniac. You go at 190 miles per hour at 30 miles per hour roads. It's a miracle you haven't killed anyone yet"
" Well, you're going to have to suck it up. I'll be driving for four hours"
" That's gonna be he...."
" How long exactly is this the journey?" I cut Jack off, tired of their bickering. I was making conversation until Orus returned from the bathroom. He had started the car and then run away screaming he had to go take a leak, so here I was, listening to the guys bicker.
" 17 hours, more or less" Mark answered my question." We'll take turns driving. First Orus, then me, then Jack and you'll do the last trek"
" Don't worry. I won't let him crash the car" Jack said while pointing at Mark.
" You're more likely to crash the car than me"
" You're both as likely to crash the car" I ended the discussion." Do you even have a driver's license?"
Both of them took out their wallets from their pockets and showed me the licenses.
" If course I have one. This is my car"
Mark had a fair point.
" It's a nice car" I complimented him." It's big and sturdy" Just as I was saying that I looked up and the roof had bended even more. We were in a walking death trap.
" Did the roof just bend even more?"
The guys looked up but just shrugged.
" I've seen it worse. Don't worry"
Mark's attempt to calm me down did nothing. I grabbed the handle to leave and calm myself and gaslight myself into thinking the whole thing wouldn't come crashing down, when the handle broke in my hand and I was left with the handle in between my fingers.
" Is this normal?" I shook the handle in front of Mark but he just took it and hit it into place.
" Fixed"
We were in a walking piece of junk.
" How about we take another car?"
" Don't worry. It'll be fine as long as the brake doesn't come off again"
" What do you mean again?" He just looked through the window." What do you mean again?!!!" I screamed even harder, but it wasn't Mark the one who answered my question.
" It's already come off a few times, but that isn't what you have to worry about"
" Then what should I worry about!!!?" My voice came out as a shriek. I was starting to panic.
" The steering wheel's what you should be worried about"
" Why??" By now the fear could be heard in my voice.
" Sometimes it short-circuits and right becomes left and left becames right, but there's no way of knowing when that has happened unless you turn and the car turns the opposite way"
" Anything else I should know?" I was now sure they had gotten this car for five bucks at a garage sale.
" Since the car is a little bit old you need to...."
" It's old 'cause Mark bought it at a garage sale and we don't have money to repair it, also we've come to love it" Just as Jack said that the car stopped roaring.
Shit, I was right.
" Don't worry. It does that. And as I was saying it also may loose the back tire. That's why there are seven spare tires in the trunk" Seven? The car had four wheels. How many wheels did they expect to lose in a single road trip? " We also have two spare steering wheels. Those can also come off"
" You've got to be kidding me" They both looked seriously at me. Yep, they were not kidding. I wanted to get out of this piece of junk. I tried to climb through Mark and get out but he grabbed my hand and stopped me.
" Do you also want to go to the bathroom?"
I nodded, but instead of letting go Mark kept asking questions.
" Can you hold it in?" I didn't want to seem weak so I nooded." We'll stop in an hour" I resigned to my fate and sat back in my seat.
" Won't that set us back? The 17 hour trip will turn into a 17:30 hour one if we do that"
" 17 hours is what the GPS says. With this thing?" Jack pointed to the car in general" It'll be a 20 hour trip"
" At least" Mark added." We have to stop every hour to let the engine rest and it runs out of gas every two hours, so don't worry. You'll have plenty of time to go to the bathroom in one of our stops"
" If the car decides it wants to work, that is" Worse of it all was that they both looked serious as fuck. We were cooked.
I sighed and decided that since I was going to die I might as well do it with a snack on my hand. I grabbed the minibar's handle and the whole thing came crushing down.
" I forgot to tell you. Everything in the car is for decoration. Nothing works"
" Not even the AC?"
They both started cracking up.
" The AC does the opposite of what it should do" Jack said, tears in his eyes from all the laughs.
" Then that's great. I want warm air"
" That's not what I meant. If it's hot outside it's even hotter inside the car and if it's cold outside the car makes itself even colder. It intensifies the weather and there's no way to turn it off"
" Just great "
" And you haven't even heard the rest of it"
" There's more? How on earth did this car pass the inspection and stay on the road"
" There are inspections for cars?" Mark looked genually confused.
" Yeah. The ones that decide if the car is fit for the road"
" Yeah, no we've never done that" Jack shook his head.
" But we do have safety measures"
My mouth hung open. Maybe this piece of junk wouldn't kill us after all.
Mark grabbed one side of a rope and passed the other one to Jack and they both opened the doors and slammed them shut, trapping the rope between the door and the inside.
" Done. Safety measure installed. You can never forget the seatbelt after all"
I looked at the rope that ran from one side of the car to the other one. It was horrible. And it wasn't even a good quality rope. It was the kind of rope that you bought at a garage sale for a few cents.
" Did you also get this in a garage sale?" I asked Mark.
" How'd you know?" He looked at me as if I was a genius. I just sighed loudly and tilted my head back into the headrest, which crumbled under my weight and feel backwards.
" Oh. And I forgot. The headrests don't work. Not even the driver's"
Oh God, we were going to die on the road.
Just as I was thinking about all the horrible ways this piece of junk could fail Orus crawled through the open window in the driver's seat. I knew I wouldn't like the answer, but I had to ask.
" Why doesn't he just open the door?"
" The front doors don't work" Orus replied nonchalantly as he grabbed the steering wheel and hit the gas pedal time and time again.
Four minutes later he was still hitting the gas pedal.
" Move three" Orus told the guys and Mark and Jack got out. They started pushing the car forward as Orus hit it everywhere." Don't worry. It works every time" He winked at me.
It did surprisingly work and Jack and Mark got back inside as the car moved forward.
I looked through Mark's window to see the academy and noticed a cloud of black smoke rising from behind the car. I pointed to it and Mark gently moved my head so that I was looking forward.
" If you can't see it it isn't a problem"
I was sure that wasn't how it worked.
The car finally got into the main road and the GPS started giving instructions as Orus hit bumps that weren't even there. I kept jumping up and down in my seat, hitting my head more than once.
That was when Jack pulled out three cushions from under the front seat, where I could see Fluffy laying happily and handed one over to each of us. I stared at the cushion, not knowing what to do when Mark placed it above my head and strapped it to the bended roof with duct tape.
" It's so that you don't hit your head. The suspension sucks" Mark said gently.
" More like it's non-existent" Orus screamed from the front. The car's engine made so much noise I could barely hear Mark and Jack, much less Orus.
" Can't we just teleport ourselves there?" I asked Jack.
" I can only teleport in short distances. But on the bright side you'll get to drive a car. Isn't that what you wanted?"
" That's right. I want to drive a car, not a death trap that barely works disguised as a car"
" You have what you can get" Mark shrugged.
Oh, God I really hoped the car would behave during the journey, but as usual I had no such luck.
