'There are still other events tonight,' she thought. 'I should save my energy. Today has been exhausting.'
Just as the two of them were about to leave the dance floor, Jessica Sutton suddenly darted out to block their way.
Seeing this, Rosalind Lowell let go of Alaric's hand. With a polite smile, she said, "I'll let you two talk."
She didn't want to intrude. From the look in Jessica Sutton's eyes, it was as if she were the one who was superfluous. So, taking the hint, she withdrew.
Alaric felt his hand go empty. He watched her walk away, his gaze fixed on her retreating figure. 'That woman…'
"What is it?"
The amorous spark in Jessica Sutton's eyes was instantly extinguished by his cold words.
"Could we just have one dance?"
"I'd rather not."
Jessica Sutton clutched the sides of her dress. "Alaric, can't we just have one dance?"
"I thought you were smarter than this."
