Chapter 2 - My Villagers hate me...oh no

'Ah yes,' Yurame thought. 'I'm pretty sure I died.'

Not in a dramatic, heroic way. No glowing light. No tragic last words. Not even one last look at something she holds dear.

Just her, a delivery truck, and a very unfortunate step off the curb.

But if this is what people mean by "second chances," she'd like to file a complaint.

"Well, fuck…" She sat on the bouncy bed in despair. "How do I get back?"

[The host is able to return to her original world if she goes to the Genesis Spire, physical sore of System. There she can find her soul and rebind.]

Yurame swung her legs off the bed—graceful in theory, except the tail got in the way and she fell flat on her face.

Fantastic.

She stood up slowly this time and clasped her hand excitedly. "Great! Let's go! Lead the way."

[As long as the host completes primary task, you can go to the genesis spire and revive your body. But for now, you remain here.]

Yurame snarled. "That sounded a lot like a threat. What is the primary task?"

[Become the female lead.]

She stared at the translucent screen for a whole minute before bursting out in a laugh. "Now, I must be really dreaming. Hey! How can I be the female lead in a story that is already halfway through!"

[System is going to help you accomplish that goal.]

That's already too suspicious.

"God, I'm going to die." Yurame wailed, "I'm going to die again."

How pathetic. The poor, miserable, and boring Yurame gets to live two lives and die stupidly in each of them. How typical.

[System sympathizes with Host.]

"Do shut up. So let me get this straight," She muttered. "I died. Woke up as a villainess. And now I'm supposed to somehow turn things around and become the female lead."

The screen helpfully adds, [System has automatically scanned quality males around the host, locking onto four targets which would help the story turn around the right way.]

She looked at the screen, deadpanned. "I don't need conquests."

[These males aren't just conquests. They are the original male leads, and the host will make them hers.]

"What?!" She exclaimed. "Urgh! How am I supposed to get males who half of them already hate me to be mine? That's even villainy! They belong to Mirei!"

[It is mandatory to conquer these quests within the specific time given, else the host will die in 48 hours.]

"…Of course I will." She walked out of the room and scrunched up her nose. Akuma lived in what was basically a cave. But he managed to make it homey and pretty enough. But around weren't caves.

In fact, unlike what Yurame thought, the Inari Veil Tribe wasn't primitive. They didn't live in caves or huts made from straw. The houses here were actually sturdy. They built them using some kind of wood, which looked very strong and honestly, very beautiful.

She smiled as she walked back to her residence. Luckily, she remembered it because of the former body's memories. But as Yurame walked back, her fellow fox-beasts hissed, snarled, and cursed at her. Some kids even threw rocks at her body.

"Hmph. Look at her, the audacity she has to show her face!"

"That red fur! Just like the devil's."

"She has some nerve! That evil, evil fox!"

"I wonder when that slave of hers would kill her."

"Yes, she isn't even strong and can barely fight."

"No talent whatsoever"

"So useless"

"Shh, she'll hear you. Remember what she did to Cyrus, who insulted her last?"

"Yes. She put him in that cave of wild wolves and blocked the mouth. Poor fox was nothing but bones at the end!"

"That Devil! She's a monster."

'Damn…That woman was so evil.' Yurame whimpered in her head. 'How can I even remedy this?'
