Yurame ignored all their jabs and pretended she didn't hear them. She accidentally looked at a kid, and he ran inside his hut.
'What? I wasn't even ugly.'
[Host, the original body did a lot of things to the villagers, making them hate her.
She pursed her lips, "I know that. I'll just stay on my own from now on."
[...]
She quickly reached her residence, which was a small two-story villa built with red wood.
"Hm. I guess being royal has its perks."
The outside was beautiful and regal, but as Yurame got inside, her jaw dropped to the floor. The room looked like something that had died, came back to life and then died again.
The stench of mold alone almost made her vomit up my guts. The entire place was filled with trash and garbage! She's not even exaggerating or overreacting!
There were so many leftover of raw meat scattered all over the floor, and maggots were crawling out of it. Piled up garbage made it almost impossible to step anywhere in the house. The curtains were grey with dust. Something dark and furry scurried under the chair.
"Ugh! I should just burn the place down."
She could hardly hold it. She almost fainted at the sight of the whole place. On earth, as a human, Yurame had OCD so this sight was hell for her. The original body was always dressed up in the most extravagant and regal clothing, one would hardly guess this was the type of place she slept in.
"What the actual…this is beyond disgusting!" She tip-toed around a trash bag. "How in the world does someone live like this?!"
Huge flies buzzed everywhere, and she could even feel bugs crawling on her skin. Yurame shivered for the untempt time, wishing this was a nightmare.
"This cannot be where I live!" She wailed. "Take me out, please."
She looked to her left, rotten bread and fruit peels. To her right, shit and rotting wood. She couldn't take it anymore. So she turned around to leave when the screen flashed in front of her.
[Mandatory Survival Action: Clean and Arrange the Villainess Residence]
"You have got to be kidding me."
[Failure consequence: Death in 48 hours.]
"What?..." She stumbled backwards, falling over a trash bag and into pile of banana peels. "AHHHHHHHH!"
Yurame scrambled up, tripping on her tail and falling flat on her face again. She could feel bugs and maggots climbing her skin and she whimpered. 'What did I do to deserve this?'
"I can't do this" she muttered, glaring at the screen and it flickered again. It was just like a video game.
[You have no other choice but death.]
Yurame whimpered again, and knelt down, swallowing hard. 'Alright, I can do it.'
But as she raised a rotting meat from the ground, and all the maggots from it fell to her lap, Yurame realized that she could in fact not do it.
So she fell to the floor and collapsed.
~~
When Yurame opened my eyes again, she was standing in the middle of a brightly lit store. Rows and rows of cleaning supplies stretched in every direction. Bottles of soap, mops, gloves, window sprays, and wipes.
For a second, she thought she was back. She thought she had finally woken up from that horrid dream.
"...Oh, hell yeah!" She pumped her fist in the air. "I'm back!"
[Dream Supply Shop Activated]
Yurame's joy balloon deflated quickly when the screen appeared in front of her. What the fuck? She looked around and then, back at the screen.
"What? You took me to another novel?"
[The host make take whatever modern cleaning materials she may need to complete her quest. This is a Dream Supply shop where you access materials from your world.]
"Tch." Too bad. She grabbed the nearest bottle labeled 'Industrial Strength Degreaser'. Yurame though sinisterly, 'I wish I could stay here forever.'
The screen flickered again.
[Warning: The more items host takes, the more the storyline changes.]
She paused. "And?"
[Host will gradually forget memories of the original book.]
Yurame stared at the shelves. Then at the screen. Then back at the shelves. She could take literally anything back to that world and the price was plot knowledge?
"That's the dumbest economy I've ever seen." Yurame spat and started to pack into her arms. She picked up gloves, one mop, three glass sprays and a disinfectant. A notification popped up.
[Memory Stability: 98%]
"Oh come one, I barely even picked anything." She hissed and grabbed more supplies. Sponges, air fresheners and even a bucket on her head.
[Memory Stability: 95%]
She squinted at the screen. "You're the one that wanted that house clean. I'd burn it to the ground if I were you."
[System prioritizes Host's survival.]
"You're obviously trying to kill me." She grunted and tried to pick a packet of detergent but couldn't reach it because of her arm limitation.
[Inventory Unlocked.]
Four glowing cubes appeared in the air. Virtual containers! Just like in a video game. Yurame chuckled smugly and nodded.
"Please tell me there's no weight limit." She said as she tossed the supplies into the cubes one by one. Each object vanished with a soft plop.
[Unlimited weight capacity. Although, host can only fit ten items in each container and when host wants to empty it, she just has to say the word.]
"You know, you can be best sometimes." Yurame teased, and turned to put more items into the containers.
[System also thinks host can be close to best sometimes.]
She deflated like a balloon. Right, an Ai system is roasting her. She suddenly straightened up.
"Wait, where are the snacks?" Yurame asked after noticing that she could see everything but food.
[Taking foreign foods into the world are for life or death situations only.]
"Cleaning that house is a life or death situation!" She exclaimed.
[He he he.]
"How rude." She scoffed and continued adding the items till she exhausted each of the containers' limit.
[Memory Stability: 90%]
Yurame waved her hand dismissively. "I barely remember the plot anyways. And besides, I don't want anything to do with the novel.
[That statement is highly and statistically incorrect.]
"We'll see about that."
The store suddenly started to fade around her, the shelves dissolved into light and floor flickered. The system dinged again.
[Dream Supply Shop Closing.]
Then everything went blank and the floor beneath her disappeared.
"AHHHHHHHH!"
