(MASON'S POV)
I hadn't noticed him before. Not really. He had been standing in the shadows, so still and quiet that my eyes had simply glided over him. But now that the others were leaving, he remained, making himself comfortable on a stone bench near the edge of the clearing. Beside him was a double baby stroller, and inside it, two small children were sleeping peacefully, their tiny chests rising and falling in perfect rhythm.
The man was striking. Tall and lean, with light blonde hair that seemed to catch the moonlight and hold it. His eyes were a vivid green, like emeralds set in porcelain, and his ears were pointed—elegant and sharp. He was dressed in simple but elegant human clothes, but there was an air of ancient power about him that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I had no idea what creature he was. Elf maybe? Or Pixie? Fairy? Honestly, I was still very new to this supernatural thing.
