We remained like that for several more minutes.
The entire corridor was eerily silent.
No one spoke.
No one moved.
Every pair of eyes remained fixed on the emergency room doors.
Then..
The doors finally opened.
The doctor stepped out, removing the surgical mask from his face.
Alicia was the first to react.
She rushed toward him, and the rest of us quickly followed behind.
"Doctor..." she called anxiously.
"How is she?"
The doctor let out a slow breath before answering.
"The patient is stable now."
For a brief moment...
Relief washed over the entire corridor.
Several people released the breath they had unknowingly been holding.
Including me.
"What exactly happened to her?" I asked.
The doctor looked at me briefly, clearly confused because he hadn't seen me before.
Before he could ask, Alicia quietly spoke.
"It's alright..."
Her voice was hoarse from crying.
"He's her father."
For a second...
I simply stared at her.
