Chapter 50 - He was not supposed to see

The kiss didn't end everything.

It changed everything.

I didn't pull away immediately.

Neither did he.

For a moment, we stayed there—

Close.

Breathing the same air.

Feeling something neither of us was ready to name.

Then reality returned.

Soft.

But firm.

And I stepped back.

Elias didn't stop me.

But his eyes followed me.

Like he was trying to hold onto something that had just begun.

"I should go," I said quietly.

He nodded once.

But there was something in that nod.

Something unfinished.

"Jessy…"

I paused.

Not turning fully.

"Be careful," he added.

Those words felt heavier than they should have.

"Of what?" I asked.

A pause.

"Of the truth," he said.

My chest tightened.

Because something told me—

That truth wasn't just about Alina.

When I stepped out of his office, the air felt different.

Lighter.

But also…

Uncertain.

Because now, I was standing in the middle of something bigger than I understood.

And I wasn't the only one watching.

Across the hallway—

He stood there.

Cypher.

Still.

Silent.

His eyes were locked on me.

No—

Not just me.

The door behind me.

Elias' office.

And then—

Back to me.

Something dark moved through his expression.

"You were in there," he said.

Not a question.

I didn't respond immediately.

Because I could already feel it.

The tension.

The storm.

"Yes," I said simply.

His jaw tightened.

"For how long?"

"That doesn't concern you."

That hit him.

Hard.

"It does if it's him," he snapped.

I looked at him calmly.

"You don't get to care now."

Silence.

The words landed exactly where they needed to.

"I always cared," he said.

I almost laughed.

But there was nothing funny about it.

"No," I shook my head slightly.

"You didn't."

His eyes darkened.

"I was there before him," he said.

"And you left before I needed you," I replied.

That shut him up.

For a moment—

He had nothing.

But then his gaze shifted.

Slowly.

To my stomach.

My bump.

And this time—

There was no pretending.

No denial.

Only reality.

His child.

"You kept it," he said quietly.

Not shocked.

Just…

Forced to face it.

"I did," I replied.

Silence.

"And you moved on," he added.

I frowned slightly.

"That's what you see?"

His eyes lifted to mine.

"You're with him now."

I held his gaze.

"I'm living my life."

That answer didn't satisfy him.

"You replaced me."

This time—

I did smile.

Not softly.

Not kindly.

"You left," I said.

The truth.

Simple.

Unavoidable.

"And now you're standing here acting like you were pushed."

His expression hardened.

"That's not what happened."

"Then what did?" I asked.

Silence.

Again.

Because he didn't have an answer.

Not one that made him look better.

"I made a mistake," he said finally.

I shook my head slowly.

"No," I corrected.

"You made a choice."

That one—

Cut deeper.

His eyes burned into mine.

"And him?" he asked.

I didn't answer immediately.

Because for the first time—

I didn't feel the need to explain anything to him.

"That's not your concern."

His jaw tightened again.

"I'm still part of that child's life."

I stepped closer.

And for the first time—

My voice dropped.

Lower.

Stronger.

"You walked away from that the moment you chose silence."

That was it.

That was the truth he couldn't escape.

And he knew it.

Because this time—

He didn't argue.

He just stood there.

Watching me.

Like he was finally realizing—

He had lost something he couldn't get back.

I didn't wait.

I walked past him.

And this time—

He didn't stop me.

Later that evening—

I was at Elias' house.

Lia ran toward me the moment I stepped inside.

"Mom!"

The word came so naturally from her.

So easily.

And somehow—

It didn't feel strange anymore.

I bent slightly—

Carefully—

And she wrapped her small arms around me.

My heart softened instantly.

"Hey, you," I whispered.

She pulled back, her eyes bright.

"You came!"

"I did," I smiled.

Her small hand moved—

Resting gently on my stomach.

"Baby," she said softly.

My breath caught.

Because the way she said it—

It wasn't curiosity.

It was connection.

Like she understood something deeper.

Something even I didn't fully understand yet.

"You like the baby?" I asked gently.

She nodded quickly.

"Yes."

"Why?"

She tilted her head slightly.

Thinking.

Then smiled.

"Because… it feels like mine too."

My chest tightened.

Not painfully.

But deeply.

Emotionally.

Because something about that moment—

Felt bigger than it should have.

Like two worlds were slowly coming together.

And neither of them fully understood why.

Across the city—

Vanessa stood by her window.

Her phone in her hand.

A message open.

A picture.

Jessy.

Coming out of Elias' office.

Her eyes narrowed.

"So this is what you've been hiding," she murmured.

A slow smile formed on her lips.

"Perfect."

Because now—

She had something to use.

And this time—

She wasn't going to miss.
