Chapter 20 - Uninvited Truths

The silence after Cyprian's words stretched longer than it should have.

"…Dad? Mom?"

No one answered immediately.

Not because they didn't hear him.

But because they were deciding how to answer.

The woman finally stepped forward first.

Slow.

Measured.

Like she owned the ground beneath her heels.

Her eyes didn't soften when they met Cyprian's.

They never did.

"You look surprised," she said calmly.

Cyprian didn't move.

"I asked what this is."

The man beside her finally exhaled.

Not tired.

Disappointed.

That was worse.

"We heard things," the man said at last.

Cyprian's jaw tightened slightly.

"What things?"

A pause.

The woman smiled faintly.

But it wasn't warm.

It was surgical.

"About your house," she said. "About your wife."

That word landed wrong.

Not because it was new.

But because it sounded like accusation when she said it.

Cyprian's eyes sharpened.

"Say what you came to say."

The woman tilted her head slightly.

"Pregnancy," she said simply.

Silence cracked open immediately.

Even the guards shifted behind them.

Inside the house, Claire was still with Raven….unaware of what was being spoken outside.

The man continued.

"A high-risk pregnancy," he added. "A rushed marriage. A woman no one in your circle can verify properly."

Cyprian's voice dropped.

"Don't."

The woman ignored him.

"And a girl who used to work in places that don't match the image of your household."

That was the first time Cyprian's expression shifted.

Not anger.

Control tightening.

"Who told you that?" he asked.

The man stepped closer now.

"We don't need names," he said. "We need confirmation."

A pause.

Then softer….

"You understand how this looks, Cyprian."

The woman's gaze hardened slightly.

"A sudden wife," she continued. "A pregnancy used as justification. A girl moved into your protection overnight."

Her eyes narrowed.

"Or control."

Cyprian didn't respond immediately.

And that silence…

was taken as answer.

Inside the estate, Raven was still on the floor.

Claire hadn't left her side.

But something felt off.

The house was too still.

Even the air had changed.

Claire looked toward the hallway again.

"Why is it so quiet outside…" she whispered.

Raven didn't answer.

But her hand tightened slightly against her stomach.

Claire noticed.

"You're shaking again," she said softly.

Raven's voice came out thin.

"I don't like this place."

Claire opened her mouth….

But stopped.

Because footsteps were approaching again.

Not Cyprian's this time.

Different.

Heavier.

Multiple.

Claire stood slowly.

"What now…"

The door didn't open immediately.

It paused.

Like whoever was outside was listening first.

Then…

It opened.

Outside, Cyprian stood alone in front of his parents.

The man finally spoke again.

"We came to see her."

Cyprian's eyes narrowed slightly.

"No."

The woman tilted her head.

"You don't get to decide that."

A pause.

Then softer…

"We heard she's inside."

Cyprian's voice dropped.

"Leave."

That was the first real emotion.

Not loud.

But dangerous.

The man sighed slightly.

"You always think control means ownership," he said quietly.

Cyprian stepped forward half a step.

"That's not what this is."

The woman's eyes flickered briefly.

"Then prove it."

Silence.

The wind shifted again.

And then…

The man said something that changed the air completely.

"If she's real… we will see her."

A pause.

"And if she isn't…"

He didn't finish the sentence.

He didn't need to.

Cyprian's jaw clenched.

For the first time….

something in his control cracked just slightly.

Not enough to break.

But enough to show pressure underneath it.

Inside the house.

The door opened.

Claire froze instantly.

Raven lifted her head weakly.

And before either of them could react…..

Claire saw them.

Not Cyprian.

Not guards.

Two unfamiliar figures walking into the house like it belonged to them.

And Claire whispered under her breath…

"…Oh no."

Raven's eyes followed her gaze.

And the moment she saw the people stepping inside….

her body went still.

Because something about their presence didn't feel like guests.

It felt like judgment arriving early.

Outside, Cyprian turned sharply.

"You don't go inside my house uninvited."

The woman finally looked at him properly.

For the first time, something colder passed through her expression.

"We already did," she said quietly.

Cyprian froze.

A beat.

Then….

"What did you say?"

The man answered instead.

"She's inside already, Cyprian."

A pause.

Then softer….

"We just wanted to see what you brought into this family."

Silence dropped.

And for the first time since this began….

Cyprian didn't respond immediately.

Because behind him…

the doors of his house had already been opened.

And somewhere inside…

Raven was about to meet people she had never been prepared for.
