Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Talkative

It's here!

Mikami Yuu's spirits lifted. Even though he was still facing the direction where Nonō was demonstrating, his focus had already shifted to the text box in front of him. There, a chibi portrait of a green-haired woman appeared—giving off distinct "older-sister" vibes:

[Potential romanceable target: Healing Jutsu]

[Talk]

A: Hello, ma'am. I'm Mikami Yuu. Your healing method looks very skilled. May I ask what principle this ninjutsu uses to affect wounds?

B: Such warm chakra… it feels like a mother's love. You're the kind of woman who could be my mom!

C: (Stay silent, only gaze at her lovingly, luring her to speak first.)

Mikami Yuu ignored the last two and chose A.

[In pharmacology class, you make close contact with the mature woman radiating healing light. She seems to notice your attention, and her gentle gaze falls on you.]

A pale-green dialogue box unfurled, bordered with vine-and-flower patterns:

[Healing Jutsu: Oh? A very serious student, aren't you. The key to medical ninjutsu lies in Yang Release. Only by changing chakra's nature toward the Yang attribute can you guide the body's cells to heal faster. If you pair it with ointment, the effect is even better.]

Got it.

So this new target was positioned as an "older-sister teacher type," pretty similar to Yakushi Nonō's vibe.

In galgame logic, that archetype was one of the easiest to woo. They were often written as bold, playful, and fond of teasing—so for Mikami Yuu right now, he could go straight for "effective damage."

He glanced at the romance list—which still hadn't updated—then kept pressing:

"Ma'am, what is Yang-nature transformation? Could you teach me?"

[Healing Jutsu: Heh—little brother has a pretty strong curiosity. But at your age, being lively is a good thing. Let big sis explain. Chakra has seven natures. Five are the common elemental releases, and the remaining two are Yin and Yang…]

"…Then what are the conditions for using medical ninjutsu?"

[Healing Jutsu: Well…]

Compared to the Three Basic Jutsu sisters and Great Fireball, Healing Jutsu was kind of a chatterbox.

Or rather—she had that "likes to teach" trait.

Even though what she explained—chakra nature transformation, Yin–Yang Release, and so on—overlapped a bit with what Yakushi Nonō had just said, Mikami Yuu still played along. He put on an eager-student face and kept choosing the option that looked most hungry for knowledge each time.

Meanwhile, in reality—

Yakushi Nonō's brows knitted slightly.

For some reason, the Healing Jutsu she cast today felt… strange.

More specifically, she felt that the chakra she released was unusually "active," like it was trying to show itself off—as if the technique had initiative. Describing a ninjutsu that way was obviously weird, but she couldn't find a better phrase.

"Maybe I didn't rest well last night, taking care of the kids…"

It couldn't possibly be that a jutsu had developed consciousness and was actively performing, right?

That would be way too ridiculous.

Nonō didn't think too much about it. She simply maintained the technique and continued explaining to the students.

Before long,

the two rabbits—one treated with ointment, the other healed with ninjutsu—were both hopping around again. The watching kids burst into applause, praising excitedly:

"Wow, so that's Healing Jutsu? That's amazing!"

"As expected of Nono-sensei!"

"I thought the Flesh-Growth Salve was already fast, but Healing Jutsu is even better! It took, what, half a minute for the leg wound to completely heal! If it were a person, could it be that fast too?"

"Of course not."

Yakushi Nonō shook her head. "What I demonstrated was only the most basic treatment. In reality, the injuries we face are often far more complex and severe. You have to adjust the medical plan based on the individual and the injury—otherwise you might worsen the condition…"

Nonō continued explaining the properties of other medicines.

The students returned to their seats and kept listening.

Mikami Yuu, meanwhile, put his attention back on the galgame system:

[Healing Jutsu Affection +1. Added to romance list!]

[Healing Jutsu (Current Affection: 1/100 — Stranger)]

[Talk] [Practice]

"Nice, nice."

Sure enough, these gentle "older-sister" techniques were the easiest to woo. If only there were more jutsu with this template.

From the system finishing loading until now, it hadn't even been half a month, and Mikami Yuu already had five romance targets—basically "dating five at once."

Of course, the Three Basic Jutsu came pre-installed. Only two new jutsu had truly been acquired through "copying": Great Fireball and Healing Jutsu. But for Mikami Yuu—who half a month ago was still considering becoming a ramen noodle-pulling craftsman—this was already an enormous surprise.

Still…

He still hadn't figured out how [Give Gift] was supposed to work. Logically, that feature should raise affection more than [Practice].

And he also wasn't sure whether every technique could trigger the system's [Encounter] mission.

—For example, if someone used Truth-Seeking Orbs in front of him, or a Mangekyō "gold-binding" genjutsu, or a secret technique like Shadow Possession… could he still trigger an encounter as smoothly as he did with Great Fireball and Healing Jutsu?

They were all "jutsu," sure—but they relied on kekkei genkai, or even kekkei mōra, or at the very least secret clan arts not taught outside the family. In theory, Mikami Yuu didn't even meet the basic prerequisites to train them.

What would happen…

He'd probably only know after trying.

The morning classes ended.

Rin carried her notes over to ask Nonō a few questions.

When she came back, Mikami Yuu and Obito packed up and stood, said goodbye to Hyakusō, and left Konoha Hospital together.

There were no afternoon classes.

Obito originally wanted to invite Rin to his house to play.

But Rin gently refused, saying she wanted to study at the library.

"Next time, Obito-kun. I want to go to the library later and look up the books Yuu-kun mentioned… Oh—Yuu-kun, do you want to come too?" Rin looked at Mikami Yuu.

"No."

Mikami Yuu shook his head. "I've got something to do this afternoon. You two go ahead. You can ask my mom later—she'll tell you which reading list to borrow from."

"…Okay then."

The three of them parted ways at the intersection.

Mikami Yuu went alone to a training ground on the outskirts of the village, found a relatively safe spot, and started his daily galgame grind.
