Chapter 1 - A Lying Witch, A Warden, And A Keyblade Wielder: Part 1

The theater was quiet, its wooden stage bare except for a pair of large red curtains hanging closed at the back. A single spotlight suddenly blinked to life, spilling a warm circle of light across the polished floorboards. At the center of that light stood a tiny red umbrella, tilted forward just enough to hide whoever stood behind it. For a moment, nothing moved, and then the umbrella gently lowered.

Revealed beneath it was a small anthropomorphic cricket with olive skin and thin black eyebrows arched neatly over bright, attentive eyes. His four-fingered hands were covered in pristine white gloves, and his attire was impeccably formal. Perched proudly atop his head sat a royal blue top hat with an orange band circling its base. A red vest fastened with a single pink button lay beneath a black blazer and high-collared white shirt, while a yellow ascot added a touch of elegance to the ensemble. Tan pants and yellow shoes tipped in black completed his appearance, giving him the look of a tiny gentleman narrator who had stepped straight out of a storybook.

He cleared his throat politely and addressed the unseen audience with a warm smile.

"Hello, all. My name is Cricket. Jiminy Cricket. And I'm here to tell you a fascinating story. A story about a young hero who embarks on a journey to a brand new world filled with wonder and peril. And this young hero's name...is Sora. But first, let me tell you all a story."

Jiminy reached into the air above his head and gathered a handful of glittering magic. With a flick of his wrist, he tossed the shimmering dust upward, where it spread out like drifting mist before forming a cloudy projection suspended in the air the stage. The swirling image slowly resolved into the vast darkness of outer space, countless worlds drifting silently through the void. Each world glowed faintly with its own colors, and beside them appeared figures belonging to those distant places—heroes, adventurers, and dreamers who stood watch over their homes.

Jiminy clasped his hands behind his back and continued narrating.

"Around these parts, heroes are found in all sorts of places. From Olympus with Hercules to Wonderland with Alice. A hero might be a prince like Aladdin from Agrabah or only a boy like Peter Pan from Neverland. Each world has its own hero. But in this story, a very special one was needed to defend all the worlds of the magic kingdom. You see, a shadowy force had come called the Heartless. From where? Nobody knew. But all it brought with it was a lot of bad."

Gradually, darker shapes crept into the projection. Shadowy creatures slithered between the worlds, their forms indistinct and ominous.

The projection then shifted, revealing a magnificent white castle rising proudly beneath a bright sky. Its tall blue spires reached upward like spears of crystal, and banners fluttered in the breeze from the walls of Disney Castle.

Jiminy gestured toward the image with one gloved hand.

"Determined to stop this threat, Mickey Mouse, the King of Disney Castle, went off to face it. And he entrusted his court magician, Donald Duck, and his captain of the guard, Goofy, to seek out that special hero who would save all the worlds. The one destined to wield a legendary weapon known as the Keyblade."

The image of the castle dissolved into a new scene: a peaceful island surrounded by endless ocean. At the center of the island stood a tree whose branches bore unusual star-shaped fruit, its leaves rustling gently in the sea breeze.

High among those branches sat a boy.

His outfit was colorful and distinctive. He wore a red jumpsuit with puffy shorts and a zipper running down the front, layered beneath a black and white jacket. Large yellow shoes rested against the bark of the tree while white fingerless gloves with yellow and blue straps clasped a silver plate across the back of each hand. A blue belt hung loosely at his waist, decorated with dangling chains, and around his neck rested a silver crown necklace that glinted softly in the sunlight. His brown hair was long and slightly spiky, giving him the unmistakable look of someone brimming with restless energy.

Jiminy's voice softened with fond admiration.

"This boy, being Sora, hailed from the world known as Destiny Islands. Before his heroic chapter began, Sora was an ordinary boy who enjoyed leisure very much. However, he is also quite energetic, enjoying his participation in fun activities like games, swimming, or sparring with his friends with his trusty wooden sword. One interesting trait that Sora has is his heart. His heart is filled with compassion. He is often seen taking the time out of his day to help others in need and never expects anything in return. Overall, Sora was a truly upstanding fellow to be around with. Life was perfect for him, especially with his two best friends since childhood. A boy named Riku and a girl named Kairi."

The vision expanded to reveal the two friends standing beside Sora.

Riku was slightly taller and more muscular, wearing a vest that was yellow in the front with a yellow collar, while the sides and back were black. Two black crisscrossing straps ran across his chest and upper back, trimmed with white and secured by silver studs. Black bracelets wrapped around his wrists, and fingerless gloves in gray and black covered his hands. A black belt with a silver buckle secured his dark blue-gray pants, which were partly hidden beneath blue wading pants held by straps similar to those on his vest. His shoes were white and blue, laced with yellow cords that crisscrossed along the sides.

Kairi stood beside him, her auburn hair framing bright blue eyes and a gentle expression. She wore a white top layered over a black one that showed faintly at the collar and hem, revealing a bit of her midriff. Purple biker shorts sat beneath a purple skirt fastened with a blue belt, and white slip-on shoes with purple caps completed the outfit. Around her neck rested a necklace with a small silver bead, while a black choker and bracelets adorned her wrists.

Jiminy chuckled lightly as he continued.

"A year older, Riku was known to act as the responsible one of the trio. While Kairi, despite appearing on Destiny Islands under mysterious circumstances, was a kind and gentle soul who...well...chuckles caught the attention of Sora's heart. The three were inseparable...until the night came...when the Heartless invaded Destiny Islands."

The projection darkened suddenly.

Storm clouds churned above the island as shadows crawled across the ground. Creatures with glowing yellow eyes poured from the darkness. Amid the chaos, Riku and Kairi vanished, swallowed by the spreading void.

"By witnessing the disappearances of Riku and Kairi and summoning the Keyblade, Sora did his best to fight off the threat, but to no avail. Poor boy was sucked into a vortex in the sky as his home world became lost to the darkness in its final moments."

The image shifted again.

The scene now showed a quiet city street at night. Brown buildings lined the road, and a large fountain splashed gently in a nearby plaza. Lantern light illuminated the streets of a strange refuge known as Traverse Town.

In the projection, Sora stood there, confused but determined, as two unusual companions approached him.

Jiminy continued his story with renewed enthusiasm.

"However, Sora was fortunately spared and ended up in a world known as Traverse Town, a world that serves as a refuge for those who lost their worlds to the Heartless as well. From there, he met Donald and Goofy, who learned of each other's purposes and teamed up to save all the worlds while looking for their friends. And from there on, the rest has been unforgettable."

The cloudy projection burst into a rapid montage of adventures. Sora, Donald, and Goofy traveled through countless worlds, battling Heartless and standing beside heroes they met along the way.

"Sora, Donald, and Goofy, while initially working together as a means to an end to find their friends, their experiences together have allowed them to forge a genuine friendship along the way. Together, they've defeated countless Heartless, as well as other enemies known as Nobodies, Unversed, villains from their native worlds who joined together to conquer said worlds, and saved their friends."

The images slowed and darkened, revealing three ominous figures standing apart from the rest.

"However, these journeys eventually led to three of the most dangerous foes they've faced. Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness... Xemnas, the Superior of the In-Between... And Xehanort, the Dark Keyblade Master."

Jiminy's tone grew serious as the projection revealed the truth behind them.

"These three dastardly villains are actually one and the same. Ansem, being Xehanort's Heartless, while Xemnas is Xehanort's Nobody. Xehanort split himself apart throughout time and space in his numerous attempts to obtain Kingdom Hearts."

The swirling vision displayed the mythical symbol itself—a radiant heart-shaped moon of immeasurable power.

"What is that, you may ask? Well, according to Xehanort, one who opens the door to Kingdom Hearts will be able to obtain ultimate power. With it, Xehanort planned to destroy the current universe, which he referred to as 'the World', and create a new one, calling it the 'Next World', shaping it into his own image. Which would then allow him to be 'reborn as something far greater than human', and also gain control over all worlds and all people."

The projection now revealed the clash of many warriors.

"This whole plot stemmed from him simply being curious about the legends of Kingdom Hearts itself. However, in order to accomplish this, he needed the only tool that could unlock the power, the χ-blade. The very first Keyblade, which all the others are modeled after."

The vision showed warriors assembling on both sides of a massive battlefield.

"To acquire the χ-blade, Xehanort recruited twelve dark beings under the name Organization XIII to battle against Sora and six other Keyblade wielders, who formed a group of their own known as the Guardians of Light. For you see, in order to form the χ-blade, light and darkness must clash together, seven lights and thirteen darknesses to be exact, which then resulted in a Keyblade War."

The battle raged across the cloudy sky of the projection.

"The battle was long and harsh, and while they did gain allies in Roxas, Xion, and Terra, they lost one of the most important to them, that being Kairi, who was struck down by Xehanort in the final phase of the war by seemingly shattering into crystals in a flash of light."

The image changed again.

Now, a majestic white city stretched endlessly across the horizon, its architecture rising above a sea of water.

"With that dark deed complete, Xehanort had acquired all 13 dark fragments to summon Kingdom Hearts. And so, to end this war once and for all, Sora, Donald, and Goofy ventured forth to the world known as Scala Ad Caelum and engaged Xehanort in the toughest battle yet while the rest of the Guardians did their best to keep Kingdom Hearts at bay."

The projection showed the final clash.

"After it all, Xehanort was finally defeated and surrendered the χ-blade to Sora before his death. Sora then used χ-blade to seal Kingdom Hearts away for good, along with the help of his friends."

The cloudy projection dissolved into soft puffs of smoke.

Back on the stage, Jiminy Cricket adjusted his hat and turned back toward the audience with a thoughtful smile.

"Now, you may be wondering, what exactly happened to Kairi? Well, according to Xion, former member of Organization XIII and newly acquired ally to the Guardians of Light, she had informed Sora that Kairi was still alive due to being able to feel her heart. From there, Sora had gained hope to find her."

Jiminy looked toward the closed red curtains behind him.

"But how exactly will he do that? Where exactly did Kairi end up? What new adventures await Sora?"

He chuckled softly.

"Well, how about we see that for ourselves, shall we?"

With a theatrical flourish, Jiminy turned and presented the curtains. They slowly parted, revealing a blinding white light that flooded the entire stage.

The light faded.

When it cleared, a vast mountainous plain stretched beneath an open sky, and scattered across the landscape stood numerous figures gathered in the distance—waiting, as if a new chapter of the story was just about to begin.

The Keyblade Graveyard was a world of seemingly endless earth that stretched across the horizon in a vast expanse of rocky badlands. Steep stone formations and shattered cliffs rose from the ground like broken monuments beneath a weary sky that glowed faintly with gold. Dust storms swept endlessly across the land, the wind dragging sand over the cracked soil in restless currents that cloaked the wasteland in a constant haze. Everywhere the eye could see, fields of Keyblades stood embedded in the earth. Thousands upon thousands of silent weapons pierced the land across hillsides and valleys, some leaning against one another like fallen banners left behind after a war long since finished.

It was here that the long and terrible conflict had finally ended.

Xehanort and the remnants of Organization XIII had been defeated, their ambitions of reshaping the universe brought to an end upon this scarred battlefield. Standing among the endless sea of Keyblades were the victors of that struggle: Sora and his friends. Riku stood beside him, calm and resolute as always, while King Mickey, Donald Duck, and Goofy looked out across the wasteland with quiet exhaustion. Nearby were the other Keyblade wielders who had fought through the war—Ventus, Terra, and Aqua. Roxas stood alongside Axel and Xion, the three watching the sky in thoughtful silence.

Above them all stretched a peaceful golden sky that seemed almost too gentle for a place so haunted by conflict.

For the first time in what felt like forever, the world was quiet.

King Mickey let out a slow breath as he gazed upward toward the others, the tension finally leaving his shoulders. "It's finally over."

Almost everyone smiled at those words, nodding softly in agreement. The weight of the war had been immense, and now that it was finished, relief spread through the group like a warm breeze.

Yet among them, one person did not share that relief.

Sora stood slightly apart from the others, his head lowered, facing away from the others. The golden light of the sky reflected off the silver crown pendant at his chest, but his expression remained troubled.

After a moment of silence, he spoke quietly, shaking his head. "…No."

Riku immediately noticed the shift in his friend's voice. Turning toward him, his tone steady and reassuring. "We'll find Kairi. Let's head back to Master Yen Sid. We can figure it out."

Sora slowly lifted his head, his eyes filled not with uncertainty, but with a quiet resolve. "No, I know what to do."

King Mickey's ears twitched as his eyes widened slightly at the determination in Sora's voice. "Sora…"

Sora turned toward the group and gave them a small, grateful smile. "My whole journey began the day I lost her."

He placed one hand over his chest, pressing it gently against his heart as though he could feel the bond that still connected him to her. "And every time I find her... she slips away again. I thought we'd finally be together. But she's out there, alone. Not for one more second."

Donald and Goofy exchanged a quick look before both stepping forward at the same time.

"We'll go too!"

"That's right!"

Sora looked at them both with deep appreciation. Their loyalty had never wavered through every battle and every world they had crossed together.

"Thank you, Donald, Goofy. But this time, I have to go it alone."

King Mickey's expression shifted as realization dawned on him. He stepped closer, his voice filled with concern. "Sora, listen. The power of waking isn't to go chase hearts around! Even if you do locate Kairi, you might never come home to us again."

Sora did not hesitate. Instead, he smiled with quiet determination. "I will. And we'll both be back before you know it."

Mickey's face tightened slightly as the worry in his eyes deepened. "Please…"

Before he could continue, Riku stepped forward and knelt beside the King. His voice carried calm confidence as he spoke. "Let him go, Mickey."

The King turned toward him. "Riku…"

"His heart and his mind are made up. Now, believe in him," Riku met Sora's gaze briefly before looking back at Mickey.

For a moment, Mickey frowned. He knew Riku was right. Sora had always followed his heart no matter the cost, and that same heart had saved countless worlds.

At last, the King sighed softly. "Yeah…"

He stood upright again and looked toward Sora with a small but sincere smile. "Safe journey, Sora."

"Thank you," Sora nodded once in gratitude before turning away from the group. The wind swept softly across the Keyblade Graveyard as he lifted his arm outward.

With a flash of light, the Kingdom Key appeared in his hand.

Sora raised the blade toward the sky, and immediately, magic began swirling around it. The air trembled with energy as a brilliant beam of light shot upward from the Keyblade, piercing the golden clouds above.

The light widened into a radiant portal high in the sky, shimmering like an open doorway between worlds.

Sora looked back one last time at the friends who had stood beside him through every battle. Though no words were spoken, the silent understanding between them said everything that needed to be said.

Then he leapt upward.

The light engulfed him as he ascended toward the portal he had created. In the next instant, he was gone, carried away into a rushing vortex that twisted endlessly around him. The space through which he traveled looked like a swirling current of darkness and gold, streams of shadow and glowing light spiraling together like a cosmic river.

Sora kept his composure as he moved through the torrent, bracing himself for whatever lay ahead. His grip tightened slightly around the Kingdom Key as the vortex continued to carry him forward. Suddenly, a brilliant white light appeared in front of him. And without hesitation, Sora passed through it.

Far away from the flash of light, the story returned to the small wooden stage beneath a single spotlight.

Jiminy Cricket stood exactly where he had been before, his tiny figure illuminated beneath the beam of light. The red curtains behind him remained open, revealing the same radiant glow pouring from the unseen world beyond.

"As you can see, Sora has set out on a new adventure to find Kairi. But what he doesn't know is that he'll run into another girl, a girl who's also about to begin a journey of her own. A journey that she has no idea of."

Jiminy adjusted his hat slightly before looking out toward the audience with a knowing smile.

"You may be thinking: 'But, who is this girl?' Well, I'll show you."

Behind him, the blinding light beyond the open curtains intensified.

The world seemed to zoom forward through that brilliant glow, rushing deeper and deeper into whatever new story awaited beyond it.

The darkness faded slowly, revealing the dim interior of a cavern tinted with deep green hues. Jagged rock formations rose from the ground like crooked teeth, and a narrow cliffside jutted outward over a shadowy abyss. The air hummed with tension as a young woman suddenly flipped backward through the air and landed gracefully upon the edge of the rocky ledge.

She straightened quickly, gripping the white staff in her hands as her teal braids swayed with the movement. Her dark cyan eyes glared upward at the enormous creature looming above her.

Coiled across the cavern wall was a massive purple serpent, its scales glimmering faintly in the low light as its body wound across the stone. The creature's eyes narrowed, and its forked tongue flicked out with a menacing hiss.

The witch stood her ground.

She was a medium-sized woman with light brown skin and a sharp, pointed face framed by long, braided teal hair. Beneath her left eye rested a small dark beauty mark, and her expression carried the fierce confidence of someone who refused to back down from danger. She wore a white sweater with flared half sleeves, its shoulders covered by a purple yoke decorated with a bright yellow star. Beneath it hung a black long-sleeved dress that extended into a long dark gray skirt, and underneath the skirt were dark gray leggings tucked neatly into sturdy black boots. Upon her head sat a floppy white pointed hat with a wide brim, encircled by a gleaming gold coronet. In her hands, she held a white staff crowned with a massive blue teardrop-shaped crystal, its handle fitted with a sliding mechanism that could be cocked like the chamber of a cannon.

The serpent raised its head higher and hissed with contempt. "Foolish child! I could swallow you whole!"

The witch lifted her chin proudly and planted one foot forward, raising her staff toward the towering creature. "Do not underestimate me, Gildersnake, for I am the Good Witch Azura, warrior of peace!"

For a moment, she struck a dramatic pose as a sudden gust of wind swept through the cavern, sending her long braids flowing behind her like a banner of defiance. Then she shifted into a battle stance, gripping her staff with both hands and leveling it forward like a bazooka.

"Now eat this, sucka!"

A burst of fiery magic erupted from the crystal at the tip of her staff, roaring through the cavern like a blazing cannon shot. The blast slammed into the giant serpent with explosive force, engulfing its massive body in flames.

The Gildersnake shrieked as the attack struck home. "No! My only weakness: dying!" The serpent slumped dramatically onto the cavern floor.

And then the entire scene froze.

The cavern, the witch, and the defeated serpent abruptly shrank away as the perspective shifted.

Instead of a battlefield, the "witch" was now nothing more than a small toy being held in someone's hand, and the "snake" was actually a real-life one being held in the other.

"And that's the end."

The voice belonged to a teenage girl sitting comfortably in a chair. She lowered the small doll of Azura and the green snake toy she had been using to act out the battle.

The girl had tan skin and warm brown eyes that shone with excitement. Her dark brown hair was cut short in a pixie style, giving her an energetic and expressive look that matched the spark in her personality. Ebony earrings hung from her ears, and she wore a short-sleeved hooded shirt split between white and indigo, complete with small cat ears attached to the hood. High-waisted jean shorts and dark gray capri leggings completed the outfit, along with a pair of simple white loafers.

She sat across from two adults in what was unmistakably a school office.

Standing beside her was a Dominican-American woman with a medium frame, tan skin, and short jagged hair that framed her thoughtful expression. She wore cyan medical scrubs with darker blue-rimmed sleeves, along with white shoes and glasses framed in red and black. Blue earrings glinted slightly as she tilted her head in mild disbelief.

Behind the desk sat an older man with thick gray poofy hair and a large mustache that curved proudly above his upper lip. He wore a green, short-sleeved, button-down shirt paired with a blue-teal tie, and a gold watch gleamed on his left wrist as he rested his arm against the desk. A plaque that reads "PRINCIPAL HAL" is placed at the very front left corner of the desk.

The woman looked down at the toys still in the girl's hands and asked calmly, "The end of what?"

"My book report," the girl replied as the small snake toy suddenly twitched and snapped its jaws, biting the Azura doll in the process. The girl barely seemed to notice. "I think I knocked it out of the park."

The principal pressed his temple and gestured toward the open door behind her. "Your book report is why you're in here."

Through the doorway, chaos unfolded in the hallway. Two students ran past, screaming as small snakes clung to their heads like wriggling hats.

The girl glanced back at the commotion with mild surprise. "Oh. That's where the backup snakes went."

The woman picked up something from the desk and held it up between two fingers. It was a bundle of firecrackers tied together with strings. "And what were you going to do with this?"

"That was for the Act Three closer," the girl answered while looking down in shame.

The woman approached the seated girl, knelt to get at her eye level, then reached out and steadied the girl's hands while speaking with weary patience. "Mija, I love your creativity, but it's gotten out of hand. Do you remember why you were in the principal's office the last three times?"

The girl hesitated slightly as memories resurfaced.

During one incident, she had been standing on a stage during an audition for Romeo and Juliet. Holding a plastic spork dramatically over her chest, she had declared to the stunned audience, "O happy dagger, give me death!" before plunging the spork into her torso and tearing open her costume, causing several strings of sausages to spill out from inside the dress. The horrified cast members onstage had screamed and scattered in every direction.

Another memory showed her working intently at a table, carefully sewing the head of a pigeon onto the body of a squirrel. She proudly presented the bizarre creation on a platform labeled "baby griffin." Looking satisfied with her work, she had announced, "Now for the final anatomically correct touch, spider breath!" before opening the model's beak and unleashing a swarm of spiders that crawled across the table and over her arms. The classroom had erupted into chaos as students screamed and hurled objects in every direction.

The final incident had occurred during cheerleading tryouts. One girl had just performed a flawless backflip, earning applause from the watching girls. The girl had tossed her pom-poms aside and declared, "You think that's an impressive trick." Turning her back to the crowd, she added, "Take a look at this." When she turned around again, she had flipped her eyelids inside out and chirped, "Bleep, bloop, bleep!" The horrified reactions had been immediate as students screamed and someone audibly gagged in the background.

[End Oopsy-Daisy - Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix OST]

Back in the principal's office, the woman reached into her purse. "We all love that you express yourself, but if you can't learn to separate fantasy from reality, you may need to spend the summer here."

She extended a pamphlet to the girl that showed a label that read "REALITY CHECK SUMMER CAMP" with a slogan that read "THINK INSIDE THE BOX" with the word 'inside' being emphasized by an underline. Followed by an unsettling image of a boy trapped in a cramped square while giving off a thumbs-up and a goofy smile.

The girl accepted the pamphlet reluctantly and stared at it for a moment before standing up with sudden determination.

"Don't worry, Mom. I won't let you down." She raised her fist triumphantly and declared, "No more weirdness!"

At that exact moment, the snake toy in her hand suddenly sprang to life and lunged forward, biting the principal directly on the arm. He yelped loudly and fell backward out of his chair as the snake hissed triumphantly. The girl and her mother both stared down at the situation in stunned silence.

After a moment, the girl glanced nervously at her mother and asked, "That doesn't count, right?"

Far away from the principal's office, the scene shifted once again.

The small wooden stage returned beneath a single glowing spotlight. Jiminy Cricket stood in the center of it, adjusting his top hat as the red curtains behind him remained open to the bright unknown beyond.

"As you can see, this is the girl I was talking about from earlier. A young, imaginative girl named Luz Noceda. Poor Luz, despite her pure intentions with her creativity, it unfortunately landed her in hot water."

Jiminy clasped his gloved hands together and smiled knowingly.

"But! As I've said before, she was about to unknowingly take on a journey of her own."

He turned slightly toward the glowing light behind the curtains.

"Let us see how, shall we?"

[Play The Owl House - A Lying Witch and a Warden - Score Excerpts (0:25)]

The afternoon sun hung low over the quiet suburban street as Luz Noceda stood in front of her house. It is a two-story house with white walls and a gray roof, and many windows along the front. There is a driveway on the left side of the house and a walkway that leads up to the front door. Behind the house is a dense forest.

Luz had her shoulders slumped with sadness as the front door opened behind her, and her mother stepped outside quickly.

"Oh! Oh, my baby!" Luz's Mother exclaimed warmly as she wrapped Luz in a comforting hug. Her voice softened with reassurance as she continued, "Now, don't worry. Summer camp is only going to be for three months. You'll be so busy balancing checkbooks and learning to... appreciate public radio, the time will fly by!"

Luz's expression immediately tightened with protest. She leaned back slightly in her mother's arms, clearly struggling to accept that idea.

"But I don't like any of that stuff. I like editing anime clips to music and reading fantasy books with convoluted backstories," she said earnestly as she reached into her satchel and pulled out a book.

Camila gave her a sympathetic look, though her concern remained firm beneath it. "Mija, your fantasy world is holding you back. Do you have any friends? Real ones, not imagined or drawn or reptilian?"

Those words struck harder than Luz expected. Her shoulders sagged again as she slowly lowered the book in her hands. Without another word, she turned and began walking toward the trash bin at the edge of the driveway.

Behind her, Camila spoke gently but firmly. "Summer camp is a chance to make some friends, but you have to try. Can you do that?"

Luz paused beside the trash bin, her hand resting on the lid. She stared down at the book for a moment before quietly answering: "Yes, Mom."

The lid creaked open as she dropped her book titled "The Good Witch Azura" into the bin, which featured the titular figure resembling her exact figurine, a woman wearing a red cloak, and a bipedal wolf pup.

The soft thud of the book landing at the bottom felt strangely final.

Just then, Camila's phone vibrated inside her purse. She quickly checked the screen and sighed.

"Oh. I gotta go to work," she said, leaning down to give kisses to Luz's forehead. "Your bus is coming soon. Text me when you get there. Cuídate mu'cho, mija. ¡Que te vaya bien!" ("Take good care of yourself, dear. I hope things go well for you!")

With that, she hurried down the walkway toward her car, leaving Luz standing alone in the quiet driveway.

"Bye, Mom."

Luz watched her mother drive away until the car disappeared around the corner. For a few seconds, she remained standing there in silence until she turned to the trash bin.

Her eyes suddenly widened when she saw her book gone. "Where is it?! Where is it?!"

She began rummaging frantically through the trash until she turned her head to a faint hooting sound echoing down from above.

Perched on a nearby fence post was a small owl. In its beak dangled the unmistakable cover of The Good Witch Azura, the book sticking awkwardly from the bag the owl had apparently dragged it from. Knowing it was seen, the owl hurriedly hopped away toward the forest.

"Tiny trash thief!" Luz shouted as she jumped to her feet and sprinted after it.

The owl fluttered down the street and across a patch of empty land, with Luz racing after it as fast as she could. The bird stayed just ahead of her, gliding easily through the air while the stolen book flapped from its beak.

Eventually, the chase led them to a strange place at the edge of the neighborhood.

Luz slowed to a stop.

Before her stood a decrepit, abandoned house.

It is a two-story house with white walls and a brown roof. It has a front door in the middle and two windows on each side of the door. It has four pillars in front, but the third one is broken. The house looks run-down from the outside with a large hole in the roof and two broken windows. The stairs are worn, and there is moss hanging from the roof.

The owl, however, seemed perfectly comfortable as it swooped through the open doorway and vanished inside.

Luz stood outside the entrance, staring at the dark interior. The wind whistled softly through the broken boards of the old house, making the place feel even more unsettling.

She hesitated, then growled quietly under her breath. Steeling her nerves, Luz charged forward and ran straight inside. However, the moment she crossed the threshold, the front door slammed shut behind her with a loud bang.

At the same instant, the entire house erupted in a strange glow. Through the cracked windows and the holes in the roof, brilliant light poured outward, illuminating the abandoned structure as though something sinister had suddenly awakened within its walls.

Far away from the strange glowing house, the familiar wooden stage returned beneath the gentle beam of a single spotlight.

Jiminy Cricket stood once again beneath the light, adjusting the brim of his royal blue hat as he looked out toward the unseen audience. The red curtains behind him remained open, revealing the same radiant brightness that had appeared earlier.

"And so, our real story begins from here," Jiminy said with a knowing smile. "As Sora and Luz venture off into their journeys."

He clasped his white-gloved hands together thoughtfully before continuing. "But what they don't know is that their journeys will crossover together."

Jiminy tilted his head slightly and chuckled. "Welp, I believe I kept you waiting long enough. As I've said, our real story starts here. So, I hope you enjoy."

WORLD: ?

Sora lay flat on the ground, the lingering sensation of rushing light and twisting space still spinning faintly in his head. For a moment, he remained there, blinking slowly as his vision cleared. The last thing he remembered was leaping into the portal he had summoned with the power of waking, chasing the faint trace of Kairi's heart across worlds. Whatever strange path that power had taken him through had clearly not been a gentle one.

"Ugh, what a ride that was..." Sora groaned softly as he pushed himself upright. "Where am I?"

The ground beneath him was hard stone, and the air carried unfamiliar scents that mixed in strange ways—smoke, spices, and something vaguely magical. Sora rubbed the back of his neck and climbed to his feet before taking a few cautious steps forward.

He realized quickly that he was standing in a narrow alley. The walls on either side were uneven and old, made of mismatched stone and wood that seemed patched together over many years. Curious, Sora walked toward the end of the alley. When he stepped out into the open, the sight before him made him pause in surprise. He had emerged into a bustling town square.

The place was alive with movement, but what truly caught his attention was not the marketplace itself—it was the people filling it. Or rather, the creatures.

All around him walked beings of every shape and size imaginable. Some had horns or wings, others had fur, scales, or glowing eyes. A few looked almost human, though subtle details—pointed ears, unusual skin tones, or strange markings—made it clear that this world was unlike any ordinary one.

He passed one stall where a merchant sold jars filled with floating lights, another where someone was examining enchanted rings that hummed faintly with magic. Everywhere he looked, there was something unusual or fascinating.

Sora smiled slightly as he leaned closer to inspect a display of oddly shaped charms.

Maybe this world would have some clue about where Kairi had gone.

Elsewhere, at the market square, tucked between a cluster of mismatched buildings, stood a large, weathered violet tent. Inside it, a peculiar door suddenly unfolded into three separate sections before slowly swinging open. A small owl hopped through the opening first.

A moment later, Luz stumbled through after it. "Stop adorably hopping away, you—Huh?"

Her voice faded as she finally looked around.

Dimly lit and packed with miscellaneous objects stacked along both sides of a narrow path. Dusty light filters through a large canvas tarp or tent flap at the far end, creating a thin beam of light that stretches across the floor and silhouettes the figure standing in the center.

On the left side, an old refrigerator covered with papers and magnets stands beside shelves and boxes filled with assorted items. A desk chair, a globe, bottles, and tools are scattered around, giving the impression of a space used for both storage and tinkering. A torn cardboard sign and loose debris lie nearby, adding to the sense of disorganization.

On the right side, stacks of cardboard boxes, crates, and old belongings are piled high. A large antique grandfather clock stands prominently among the clutter, surrounded by more boxes, clothing hanging from above, and various discarded household objects. A green metal barrel and loose tools sit near the front, contributing to the cramped feel of the space.

The floor is littered with small debris—papers, tools, and broken pieces, suggesting the area hasn't been cleaned or organized in a long time. Tall trees outside the tarp hint that the structure sits in a wooded area, reinforcing the feeling that this is a temporary or forgotten storage space filled with old possessions and salvaged items. The overall atmosphere feels dim, dusty, and mysterious, as if the space holds many old or forgotten things.

Luz's eyes widened with amazement.

"Whoa. I thought I had a lot of weird stuff." She reached out and picked up a creepy-looking doll from a nearby shelf, examining it closely before adding with admiration, "But this? This is impressive."

From somewhere just outside the tent, a voice called out casually. "Finally, you're back."

Luz jumped at the sudden sound and dropped flat onto the ground in surprise. After a moment, she slowly raised her head and peered toward the tent entrance.

Standing just outside with her back turned was a tall woman.

Luz cautiously crept closer and lifted the edge of the tent flap just enough to see her clearly.

The woman was tall and slender, her posture relaxed but confident. Her ivory skin contrasted sharply with the deep maroon color of her sleeveless dress, which hung unevenly with a ripped hem design. Beneath it, she wore gray tights tucked into maroon high-heeled boots. Around her head was tied a green bandana covered in yellow polka dots that partially hid her pointed ears.

Her hair was wild and layered, thick strands of gray falling loosely around her shoulders. Golden eyes gleamed beneath heavy lids, and her maroon lips curled slightly in amusement as she rummaged through a bag. A removable gold fang flashed when she smiled, and sharp orange nails tapped lightly against the objects she examined. At the center of her chest rested a smooth amber gem embedded just above her sternum.

She reached into the bag and began pulling out items one by one.

"Now let's see what we've got here."

The little owl fluttered down and landed neatly atop the woman's staff. With an absent motion, she turned the bird around, and to Luz's astonishment, the owl shifted seamlessly into a wooden fixture of the staff itself, as though it had always belonged there.

Luz silently gasped.

Meanwhile, the woman continued sorting through the contents of the bag.

She pulled out a phone first and glanced at it dismissively.

"Garbage."

Next came a small ring.

"Garbage."

Then she lifted a golden chalice that gleamed brilliantly in the tent's dim light.

"Garbage."

Suddenly, she froze and gasped dramatically as she pulled out another object.

"Now, this..." She slipped on a pair of joke glasses with springy eyeballs attached and grinned widely. "This will make me rich."

She reached into the bag again and pulled out Luz's book. "And this... Oh, this will make good kindling."

She casually held the book near a candle flame, letting the fire begin licking at the edge of the pages.

Luz gasped in horror.

Without thinking, she burst out of the tent and snatched the book straight from the woman's hands. "Excuse me, sorry, it's mine, thank you!"

Clutching the book protectively, Luz dashed back inside the tent and ran straight for the strange folding doorway. Before she could reach it, however, the door snapped shut. The panels folded together tightly and then vanished entirely.

Luz skidded to a stop.

Standing behind her now was the tall woman, calmly holding a peculiar key shaped with a single staring eye—identical to the one that had been embedded in the door.

The woman removed the joke glasses slowly and glared down at Luz. "You're not going anywhere."

"Wah-ah!"

Panicking, Luz stuffed The Good Witch Azura back into her messenger bag. Without wasting another second, she ducked beneath a hanging shelf and darted out the back of the tent.

The woman took one step forward as if to pursue her, only to hear a voice from the market call out loudly.

A customer.

The woman paused and sighed in mild irritation before turning back toward the entrance. "Be right with you!" She then muttered under her breath as she adjusted her staff. "I'll find that kid later."

Under the rows of vendor stalls that sat farther from the busiest part of the market, Sora wandered at an easy pace, letting himself breathe for the first time since being hurled through that vortex of light and darkness. The town around him felt crowded but not threatening, and the way the locals moved about their day reminded him of worlds he had visited before, places where the strange was simply normal. He kept his gaze moving, taking in the crooked tents, the hanging charms, and the merchants calling out in voices that ranged from singsong to growling.

He had already picked up a few things while exploring, and he found himself turning them over with genuine curiosity. A necklace that shimmered faintly even in the shade of the tents, a couple of magical gemstones that caught and reflected the light in colors he could not name, and a magic wand that he thought was an awesome purchase even if he did not know what it actually did. As he walked, he considered the whole scene with a quiet grin. Woah... So far, this place sorta reminds me of Halloween Town. What with all the folks around here? And this stuff makes great souvenirs. He stopped for a second, then made the items vanish into a small flash of light, tucking them safely away in his inventory space before his attention shifted back to why he had come here at all. Ok, this place doesn't seem hostile, if a little weird. But I gotta remember why I came here. I need to find Kai—

He did not finish the thought because motion at the edge of his vision snapped him sharply back into focus. A girl was running hard toward the far end of the stalls, and she was running with the kind of panic that did not belong in a normal marketplace. Sora's eyes tracked her path, and his stomach dropped when he saw the cliff line ahead of her. Without thinking, he broke into a sprint after her and called out as loudly as he could, "Hey, wait! Stop!"

The girl glanced back mid-run, startled by the shout, and all she managed was a confused, "Huh?" before she looked forward again. That was when she saw it. The path ended abruptly, and the earth fell away into open air. She yelped and tried to stop, her shoes scraping and sliding as she fought her own momentum, her arms flailing as she tried to throw her weight backward. It was not enough. She reached the very edge and teetered, still scrambling for balance, until she felt a firm tug on her hand and a sudden pull that dragged her back from the drop.

Sora's grip held steady as he skidded with her, hauling her away from danger until she stopped mere inches from the cliff. He did not let go until he was sure she was stable. Luz stood there panting, staring at the ground as if trying to convince herself it was solid. "Oh, boy. That was close," she said, still catching her breath.

"I'll say. You almost took a bad dive," Sora answered, his own chest rising and falling as the adrenaline eased.

The girl blinked and turned, her eyes widening when she saw him. "Huh?" she said again, but this time it came out softer, more like she was trying to understand what she was looking at.

She took him in quickly, from the black V-neck t-shirt with white hemming to the long baggy shorts with gray pockets held on by red straps, and the longer black hooded jacket with red hemming, gray pockets with white hemming, and red flannel flaps that were held down by a series of yellow buttons. Her gaze lingered on his gray fingerless gloves with red hemming and a yellow strap around the wrist, the silver circle plate on the back of the hand, and then drifted up to his short spiky hair and the silver crown necklace. He looked like no ordinary boy Luz had ever seen before. If anything, he looked like someone who had stepped out of a completely different kind of story, and she seemed drawn to that.

Sora noticed her staring and softened his posture, trying not to seem intimidating. "Are you ok?" he asked.

For a moment, she said nothing. She studied his face instead, and the longer she looked, the more her expression shifted into realization of how handsome this boy was, blushing a little. Sora, unaware of what she was seeing, tilted his head slightly, confused by the silence. "Uhh...hello?" he prompted.

As if a record scratch sound effect played in her mind, Luz jolted back into motion, prompting the two to let go of each other's hands immediately. "Oh, um, yeah! Um-hm, thank you for NOT letting me plummet to my death," she said quickly, her words tumbling over each other.

Sora let out a small laugh, the tension loosening. "You'reee welcome," he replied, his tone playful, as if trying to make the moment feel less intense than it had been.

A brief pause followed, the kind that comes when two strangers have suddenly shared an emergency and now have to figure out how to act like it was not just life and death. The girl broke it first, her voice cautious but curious. "Sooo... Um...are you...a native here?"

The question made Sora's nerves spike. He remembered the World Order and could even hear Donald nagging him in the back of his mind to not talk, and he also remembered why he had come here in the first place. Still, something about her felt off in a way he recognized. It was the same feeling he got whenever he arrived in a new world and tried to blend in, that sense of being alien even when you looked like you belonged. He kept his face neutral and tried to play it cool. "Huh? Why makes you ask that?" he said.

She inhaled through her nose, then exhaled as if building courage. "Ok. You might think I'll sound crazy and or weird for saying this, but I have a feeling this is not my world."

Sora's eyes widened before he could stop himself, and his thoughts flared instantly. NOT from this world?! He stared at her, and she saw it in his face, the reflexive shock that looked like disbelief.

"I know! I know!" she blurted, fast talking now, her hands lifting as if she could physically push the skepticism away. "It does sound crazy, and you really don't believe me, I can't blame you. But, I really am—"

"Hold it!" Sora cut in, and his tone was firm enough that she stopped immediately. He took a breath, trying to steady himself, and then asked, slower this time, "…Tell me more about this 'world' of yours."

She raised an eyebrow, clearly thrown by how he said it, and her expression shifted into wary analysis as she looked him over again. Wait. Does he actually believe me? But...the way he said "world" sounded really...suspicious. He looks human... Maybe he's human too, but is just paranoid by those around him, kinda like I am. Or maybe he's one of those haughty natives who thinks I'm a whack job tourist. Either way, he looks like he's willing to hear me out, so...here goes nothing. She straightened and regained her focus, as if deciding that whatever happened next, she was going to commit to the truth.

"Ok. I'm a human. And I've come from a world called Earth," she said. Then she raised both her hands and slowly circled them down as if she were a magician performer, adding with emphasis, "A world of humans!"

Her excitement faded back into something more serious as she gestured toward the town behind them. "I say this because of...that."

Sora followed her motion, and the marketplace provided immediate evidence. The denizens of the town went about their days with unsettling casualness: a cloaked figure held an ice cream cone that suddenly devoured someone, enormous legs that looked like they belonged to a giant chicken thudded past, and a centipede-looking thing opened its mouth to let a winged creature fly out. The latter two kissed before going their separate ways as if it were the most ordinary farewell in the world. Luz turned back to him, her face dead serious now.

Sora stared, then let out a quiet, honest reaction that sounded small compared to what he was seeing. "Wow."

"Yup," she replied, as if she had already passed through disbelief and landed somewhere between resignation and awe.

Sora looked at her again, weighing the strangeness of what she was saying against the way she carried it. His instincts, sharpened by too many worlds and too many lies, told him she was sincere. He also could not ignore the obvious, because a human in a world full of monsters did stand out. He decided to stop hiding behind vague answers. "I believe you. And...to answer your question from earlier, I'm not a native here. Like you, I'm also human," he told her.

Luz's reaction was immediate: a sharp intake of breath and wide-eyed surprise. "Really? Wait. Don't mean to doubt you, but..." She averted her head while folding her hands together, pointing with both index fingers, maintaining eye contact as she finished, "Can you prove it?"

Sora lifted a hand and moved his hair around his side to show off his ear, which was clearly human. Luz gasped with sparkles in her eyes. "You ARE human! Oh, thank goodness!" she exclaimed, and then she surged forward and hugged him tightly, startling him with the force of it. "I'm not crazy! And I'm not alone! Either that, or I'm dreaming in some way!" she said, the words pouring out as if she had been holding them in for too long.

Sora stiffened, then tried to pry himself free with a polite, yet strained protest. "Please ease up! You're hugging too tight!" he managed.

Luz let go immediately, her face flushing as she stepped back. "Sorry. Sorry. It's just been so crazy in the span of... a few minutes," she said, nervous and breathless.

Sora rubbed the back of his neck with an awkward chuckle, a sympathetic sweat drop almost forming at the sheer familiarity of being overwhelmed by the impossible. "Yeah. I've been there," he replied.

Luz nodded, visibly trying to collect herself, and then she looked out at the town again with a more grounded curiosity. "Hm. Now, it does beg the question; where exactly are we?" she wondered aloud.

She did not get an answer right away, because a light-purple-skinned fairy in a much lighter-purplish white dress drifted toward her, close enough that Luz startled and shrieked.

"Oh, hello, little fairy. Are YOU going to tell me this is all a fantastical dream?" she asked.

The fairy leaned in and showed off her huge teeth with predatory delight. "Give me your skin!" she demanded.

Luz screamed, the sound cutting through the quieter end of the stalls, but Sora moved without hesitation. He stepped in and slapped the fairy into the ground with a quick, practiced motion that ended the threat in an instant.

Luz sucked in a breath and exhaled shakily, her shoulders loosening. "Thanks," she said, relief plain in her voice.

"No problem. Happy to help," Sora answered, as if it were the simplest thing in the world.

Luz stared at him for a moment longer, caught off guard by how he had just protected her, and the impression settling in her chest was hard to ignore. Someone she had just met was really that kind, or at least he seemed to be so far, and in a place like this that felt like a lifeline she had not expected to find.
