Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 – Grimoires and Their Power

The first-years gathered in a wide, high ceilinged chamber lined with ancient shelves of magical books, their bindings glowing faintly as if aware of the students' presence.

A polished dais at the center held a single desk, where Master Rilvar stood, staff in hand, ready to begin the day's lesson.

"Today," Master Rilvar began, "you will learn about grimoires — the foundation of all magic at Darkhaven. Your skill, discipline, and understanding of these books will determine your power and rank within the academy."

Types of Grimoires and Their Auras

He waved his hand, and several books floated above the desk, each emanating a distinct aura that filled the room:

Stoneheart Codex – Earth and stone manipulation. Its aura felt solid and grounding, a quiet vibration that made the floor seem sturdier beneath one's feet.

Emberveil Tome – Fire and flame.

A flickering, warm aura radiated outward, sharp and dangerous, causing a faint heat to prick the skin.

Tidebound Grimoire – Water and ice. Its aura was fluid and cool, almost hypnotic, flowing subtly through the room like a soft current of energy.

Zephyrwraith Ledger – Air and wind. A light, whispering aura swirled around the students, teasing hair and robes with invisible currents.

Voidshard Manuscript – Forbidden and rare. Its aura was dark, heavy, and unsettling, a pressure that made even the boldest students hesitate, as if the shadows themselves were watching.

Kael's eyes lingered on the Voidshard Manuscript. Rumors had whispered about grimoires that were dangerous even to their wielder — books that tested the mind, body, and soul. Even Master Rilvar's expression darkened slightly as he gestured toward it.

The master raised his staff, and a holographic pyramid of glowing sigils appeared above the dais:

Rank E – Beginner; basic control, simple spells.

Rank D – Novice; moderate complexity, small multi-element sequences.

Rank C – Adept; reliable and consistent control over larger forces.

Rank B – Advanced; precise, strategic manipulation requiring skill and study.

Rank A – Elite; mastery of multiple aspects, exceptional power.

Rank S – Legendary; rare, reserved for the most skilled practitioners or special bloodlines.

The nobles whispered among themselves, proud that some families boasted Rank B or higher grimoires, while commoners exchanged cautious glances, silently vowing to do their best.

Master Rilvar lifted the Stoneheart Codex first. Its aura thrummed through the floor, and jagged stone spikes rose smoothly, almost like obedient golems.

Next, the Emberveil Tome ignited, flames swirling into intricate spirals and walls of fire that danced safely in the air, casting flickering light across the chamber.

The Tidebound Grimoire released streams of water that rose and curled, forming crystalline ice shapes midair, shifting with mesmerizing fluidity.

From the Zephyrwraith Ledger, currents of wind danced among the students, lifting hair and robes, shifting papers on desks, and making movement feel like a test of timing and balance.

Finally, the Voidshard Manuscript radiated its oppressive aura, dimming the light around it slightly. Shadows stretched and twisted unnaturally across the room, sending a chill through even the boldest students. A hush fell, and Kael felt a strange pull of curiosity and caution, a subtle stirring deep within him.
