It is a living inheritance—an echo of knowledge, talent, or symbolic artifacts passed down through generations. Some manifest as martial mastery, others as elemental control, prophetic insight, or craftsmanship beyond mortal limits. Across the kingdom, these Legacies shape politics, warfare, scholarship, and the delicate balance between noble families. To guide and control such power, young heirs are sent to a prestigious academy where Legacies are studied, trained, and refined. There, talent determines influence, and knowledge can rival strength. Among those heirs is Gilgabeth du Galant, the youngest son of House Galant—a respected noble family known for producing powerful Legacy users. Unlike many of his peers, Gil is less interested in prestige or competition. His curiosity lies elsewhere: in books, forgotten records, and the quiet corners of knowledge others rarely notice. But Gil’s Legacy is… different. Instead of a weapon or talent, his Legacy manifests as a book—one that does not simply store knowledge, but absorbs it. Sometimes when he studies. What he slowly discovers raises unsettling questions. His Legacy may not belong entirely to his family. It may not even belong to this era. Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE — THE AGE BEFORE HEIRS

In the first age—before names were carved into stone and crowns were forged from iron—the world knew only flesh and fire.

Mountains burned by their own will. Seas rose and fell without witness. Beasts ruled the wild with claw and venom, breath and fang. Dragons breathed flame because flame lived within their lungs. Serpents carried poison because poison was born in their blood.

Humankind possessed no such birthright.

They hunted with bone and bronze. They built walls to keep the night at bay. War was decided by numbers, by hunger, by how long a man could stand before his body gave way. No soul carried power within itself. The sky remained distant, the earth heavy, and fate moved slowly across the lives of men.

So the world endured—unchanged and unchallenged—

until the sky was wounded.

On a night forgotten by calendars but remembered by stone, the heavens split.

Not with thunder.

Not with falling stars.

But with light.

It bled through the dark like a silent wound in the firmament. No sound followed its descent. No wind carried it. The light fell as rain might fall—yet it did not wet the ground. It touched soil and water alike, and it passed through living flesh as though searching for a place to rest.

When dawn came, the world appeared unchanged.

Fields continued to grow. Rivers flowed along their ancient paths. Men sharpened their blades and returned to their work.

Life moved forward, as it always had.

Yet seasons later, the first signs appeared.

A soldier did not fall when struck. Steel met his flesh—and his skin hardened like iron at the moment death should have claimed him.

A farmer, cornered by wolves, cried out in terror—and flame burst from his breath.

A lone fisher began to hear the tides whisper before storms touched the horizon.

They had not studied such power.

They had not prayed for it.

They had not inherited it.

It simply awakened.

Those who carried it were feared first.

Then they were named.

They were called Conduits, for something unseen passed through them, and the world itself seemed to bend in their wake.

Kings sought to claim them.

Priests sought to bind them.

Blades sought to tear the power from their bodies.

All failed.

The strength could not be bought. It could not be stolen. It could not be cut free without destroying the vessel that carried it.

When the first Conduit died, the world believed the miracle had ended.

It had not.

Years later, in a distant village beneath a quiet sky, a child was born.

The air around the cradle grew warm.

Straw smoldered though no flame was seen.

The elders stood in silence, each one understanding a truth their tongues struggled to shape:

What had vanished… had returned.

Thus mankind learned the first law of the unseen.

When a Conduit dies, the power bound to them fades from the world—

and one day returns again through birth.

Not into the strongest.

Not into the chosen.

Not into the noble.

But into a newborn child somewhere beneath the same wounded sky.

This wandering inheritance came to be known as Legacy.

At first, it was feared as a curse.

Many who received it broke beneath its weight. Bodies failed. Minds shattered. Fire consumed its bearer. Wind tore breath from lungs that could not contain it.

From these tragedies arose a truth carved into the oldest surviving records:

A Legacy does not obey the flesh.

It answers the soul.

The harmony between bearer and power came to be called Resonance.

When Resonance was true, the Legacy endured in balance.

When it was false, destruction followed.

In time, scholars and scribes began to divide the Legacies by the mark they left upon history.

Those that changed little were called Common.

Those that shaped the fate of men were named Uncommon.

Those that bent the course of battle were known as Blazing.

Those that ruled cities were crowned Noble.

Those that altered the course of nations were remembered as Grand.

And those that reshaped entire ages were spoken of only in quiet voices—

Ultima.

The beasts of the world never inherited this gift.

Their flame remained bound to flesh.

Their venom remained bound to blood.

When they died, their power died with them and was never reborn.

Only mankind carried something that could survive death.

When rulers came to understand this truth, war itself changed.

Armies no longer marched only for land.

They marched for Conduits.

Walls were raised not merely from stone, but from the strength of living Legacy.

Cities flourished beneath the protection of a single bearer—and collapsed when that bearer was lost.

Some, fearing death's hold upon power, sought to force the passage of Legacy before its time.

They carved runes into bone.

They drowned children in blood and light.

A few succeeded.

But their bodies twisted.

Their minds shattered.

And the Legacies they seized became warped echoes of what they once had been.

From those horrors arose the first unspoken law:

A Legacy taken by force will never remain whole.

So the world learned to adapt.

Children were watched closely at birth.

Bloodlines were measured in hope rather than certainty.

Nations waited beside cradles with the same patience they once reserved for armies.

And still, one question remained unanswered.

Why had the sky broken?

Why did power bind itself to one soul alone?

Why did it return through birth rather than will?

The oldest surviving chronicle ends with these words:

"From the wound in heaven came the inheritance of mankind.

From death, it departs.

Through birth, it returns.

Thus the world was remade not by gods,

but by those who carry what cannot be owned."

So began the Age of Legacy—

where power walks within flesh,

where fate passes through cradles,

and where the future is not forged…

but inherited.
