Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Forest Training and First Captures

Chapter 3: Forest Training and First Captures

Even after the chaos at the Pokémon Center, the Spearow attack, the frantic scramble to save Pikachu, and the unexpected Team Rocket ambush, Ash's determination hadn't wavered.

He and Misty now pressed into Viridian Forest, a dense woodland alive with rustling leaves, fluttering wings, and the faint hum of bug Pokémon. It was one of the first major wild Pokémon areas in Kanto, a perfect place for trainers to test themselves.

Ash walked with renewed focus, his steps light but purposeful. Misty followed behind, still muttering complaints about her bike, though the fire of frustration had softened after witnessing Ash's unwavering determination.

Inside her Poké Ball, Eevee stirred, ears flicking alertly. She'd been quietly observing the forest the entire way, taking in each rustle of leaves, each snap of twigs, calculating the trajectory of potential threats.

Forest zones are messy. Fast-moving, unpredictable, and packed with enemies that can overwhelm if you're careless, she thought, tail twitching in anticipation.

Her system blinked faintly, confirming her surroundings:

[RED EEVEE SYSTEM]

Location: Viridian Forest

Nearby Threat: Winged Pokémon, Hostile Bug Pokémon

Current Win Streak: 3

Battle Objective: Build Trainer Team + Maintain undefeated record

The system didn't give much else yet, mostly location and enemy presence, but Eevee knew it was enough. Each encounter, each victory, was a chance to learn moves, improve stats, and strengthen the bond with her trainer.

Ash glanced down at the grass. A twig snapped underfoot.

A small, wiggling green Pokémon emerged: Caterpie. Its beady eyes blinked at the intruders, antennae twitching.

"A Pokémon! I'm gonna catch it!" Ash shouted excitedly, reaching for a Poké Ball.

Before he could act, Eevee popped out of her Poké Ball with a light pop, landing nimbly on all fours in front of him. Her tail flicked, ears upright, gaze fixed on the little bug.

Not yet, her body language clearly stated.

Ash blinked. "…You want to weaken it first?"

Eevee tilted her head, then yipped softly, almost like a chuckle, before leaping forward. She moved with calculated precision, one Quick Attack aimed to stun rather than injure. Sparks of electricity from her cheeks danced lightly, not enough to harm the Caterpie seriously, just enough to disorient it.

The tiny bug staggered, wobbling on its green feet, and Ash smiled.

"Okay! Now!" he said, tossing the Poké Ball.

Click… click… click!

The capture succeeded. Ash spun in circles, grinning. "YES! I caught a Caterpie!"

Misty wrinkled her nose. "…A bug."

Inside her Poké Ball, Eevee gave a tiny yip of satisfaction, tail flicking lazily. First wild Pokémon caught. Strategic intervention successful.

The HUD blinked instantly:

[RED EEVEE SYSTEM]

Capture: Caterpie

Win Streak Bonus

Win Streak: 4

Ash held the Poké Ball proudly. "That's my first Pokémon capture!"

Misty pointed at him. "Don't make fun of me later if you lose!"

Ash laughed, brushing it off. But then, a large shadow flitted above them.

Eevee's ears twitched sharply. Pidgeotto.

Wild, elegant, and far more dangerous than the simple forest bug they had just captured. Her eyes narrowed inside the ball as she analyzed the threat. Wings spread wide, talons glinting in the dappled sunlight.

"That's a Pokémon I want too!" Ash exclaimed, pulling out another Poké Ball and aiming.

Mistake. Eevee cringed slightly. Targeting a high-level Pokémon without weakening it first was reckless.

Pidgeotto flapped, easily batting the ball away. Ash stumbled, flinching. Misty crossed her arms, scowling. "You can't just throw a Poké Ball at a strong Pokémon! Weaken it first!"

Eevee popped back out of her Poké Ball, landing lightly on the forest floor. She tilted her head, ears flicking, then backed into position in front of Ash. Sparks of energy danced faintly along her cheeks. Her tail flicked, signaling: Step one: let me handle this.

Ash nodded. "Alright, Eevee. Let's battle it!"

The small Pokémon lowered her stance, readying her body for rapid movement. She darted forward, Quick Attacks precise and careful, just enough to throw off Pidgeotto's rhythm without exhausting herself completely. Her paws barely touched the dirt as she zigzagged across the clearing, making it difficult for Pidgeotto to aim accurately.

Ash called out when he saw an opening. "Now! Poké Ball!"

He tossed it carefully. The ball wobbled once… twice… and clicked. Pidgeotto had been weakened just enough for capture.

Ash leaped backward, eyes wide. "I caught a Pidgeotto!"

Inside her Poké Ball, Eevee relaxed, tail flicking with satisfaction. She had executed the battle with precision, control, and stamina management, not brute force, not luck. Perfect.

The system blinked brightly:

[RED EEVEE SYSTEM]

Capture: Pidgeotto

Win Streak Bonus

Win Streak: 5

Just as Ash was celebrating, a familiar, unmistakable voice echoed through the trees:

"Prepare for trouble!"

Team Rocket. Jessie, James, and Meowth emerged, eyes locked on Ash's Pokémon. Now two unusual Pokémon were on the field: Eevee and Pidgeotto, both trained, both ready.

Ash braced himself. Misty growled softly, ready to defend her new friends.

Inside her Poké Ball, Eevee's system blinked:

[RED EEVEE SYSTEM]

Enemy Detected: Team Rocket Grunts

Opponent Count: 2

Win Streak Requirement: Maintain

Eevee popped out instantly, landing in front of Ash. Sparks danced along her cheeks in preparation. She darted toward Ekans, delivering a Quick Attack to force a defensive move. Then, flicking her tail and ears, she aimed a Thunder Shock at Koffing, disrupting the gas cloud.

Ash called out to Pidgeotto and Caterpie strategically. The trio formed a coordinated circle, each Pokémon responding to subtle cues. Pidgeotto's wings stirred the air to create confusion, Caterpie's String Shot restrained the enemy, and Eevee directed attacks with calculated precision.

Within moments, Team Rocket's Pokémon were defeated, flung backward in their classic spiraling retreat.

"But the love of Rocket… will never… ever be great… to protect the world from Eevee and Pikachu once more!" Meowth's cry echoed faintly as they vanished.

The system blinked again:

[RED EEVEE SYSTEM]

Battle Result: Victory

Opponent: Team Rocket

Win Streak: 6

Trainer Protection Bonus Activated

Ash exhaled, wiping his forehead. "That was… amazing."

Misty smiled, not at the bugs, but at the teamwork, the precision, the coordination. Eevee hopped lightly onto Ash's shoulder, tail flicking in quiet triumph.

Bugs, birds, and villains had all been handled strategically. One thing was clear: this journey was already diverging from the original timeline.

With a Win Streak of six and more Pokémon at their side than ever, the trio pressed deeper into Viridian Forest, the trees swaying in the afternoon breeze, sunlight dancing across leaves. Every rustle could signal a wild Pokémon, every shadow could conceal a threat.

Eevee, safely on Ash's shoulder, flicked her tail, analyzing every detail. Next battle, next capture. I'll manage stamina, strategy, and efficiency. System active, first wins logged. Trainer secured. Timeline deviation noted.

Adventure was no longer a concept. It had begun in earnest and with her in the team, it was going to be very different indeed.
