Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

If anyone had told Zi Han a week ago that transmigration was real, she would have laughed in their faces and called them stupid. Yes, she was an avid reader of transmigration novels; however, she also knew never to equate fiction with reality, because it was what it was, fiction.

That was until she found herself in this world. It had been another tiring day at the lab. When she got home, she had quickly made some noodles and then opened the novel she was currently reading, "The Bossy CEO Wants Me." Due to how tired she was, she fell asleep and found herself here.

She must have died from stress and overworking herself.

Not that she was surprised. As someone who had dedicated her whole life to science and had practically no life outside her lab, she often found herself running on nothing for the whole day, frequently forgetting to eat or drink until her assistants reminded her, and sometimes failing to sleep for up to a week. Death had truly been knocking at her door, and now it had claimed her.

Zi Han, as a truly dedicated worker, had only two regrets: one, that she had yet to get tangible results for her research, and two, that she hadn't finished the novel she was reading before she died.

As for her family and friends, she had none. She was an orphan, and apparently she looked too stoic for anyone to be willing to be her friend. She was also too socially anxious to ask someone to be her friend.

She had entered the world of "The Bossy CEO Wants Me," and she had become Zi Han, her namesake, who was the stepsister of the big villain of the novel, Ming Ye. Ming Ye was like an unkillable cockroach, a thorn in the flesh of the male lead, and worst of all, he was a madman in love with the female lead. He kidnapped her so many times and even once broke her ankle. Now, Zi Han hadn't finished the novel, so she did not know how it ended, but she expected that, just like the numerous other novels she had read that contained the same cliché storyline, the male lead would defeat the villain. Often, when they defeated the villain, they brought the villain's family down with him.

This was what Zi Han was scared about. She didn't want to be cannon fodder caught up in the war between the male lead and the villain. She wanted to be far away from it!

Luckily for her, the story plot had yet to start, as they were still in their final grade at Mingde High School, about to write their college entrance exams. The main plotline would begin years later, after the male lead had grown into a giant in the business world.

Her plan was simple: pass her college entrance exams, go to a university abroad, save a lot of money, get a good job( a researcher, most preferably), and never come back. Her leaving wasn't going to affect the family anyway, and no one would care if she never came back. Her mother, after marrying Ming Ye's father, barely cared for her, the child who belonged to the man who abused her. Ming Ye clearly hated her, and her stepfather, who was one of the richest men in Country C, Ming Chen, only did the things a father was expected to do, provide. Apart from that, they had no emotional attachment. So she truly had nothing to lose if she left completely.

Maybe in this life she would find love too.

"Ming Ye is beating up Shen Chu from Class D!" a voice said excitedly, pulling Zi Han from her train of thought.

A commotion immediately broke out in the classroom as students rushed toward the window. Zi Han followed along. It wasn't like she cared much, but there was no reason not to look. Almost everyone did.

Looking down at the school field through the window glass, she saw a young boy with a very handsome appearance.

He was 1.90 meters tall, and his posture was lazy. His brown hair was cut short and slightly messy, and his school uniform was unbuttoned, revealing a black T-shirt underneath. His sleeves were rolled carelessly up his arms.

He had long eyelashes, and his eyes were so dark that they seemed devoid of light. On his lips was a very eccentric smile.

At his feet lay a male student, curled up and shaking, his face swollen and bruised. Each shallow breath looked like it hurt.

Two boys stood beside the young boy. One had dyed blond hair, the other jet black. Neither spoke, nor did they move. They didn't need to, because Ming Ye was the only one who needed to do anything.

He lifted his foot, then pressed it down harder.

The boy on the ground let out a muffled cry and the young boy tilted his head, as if listening.

He was clearly unsatisfied.

He applied more pressure.

The young boy wasn't angry, nor did he seem to be in a hurry. He wasn't even excited. Rather, he seemed to be enjoying the absolute fact that the person beneath him could do nothing.

Then, without warning, the young boy looked up. His gaze swept across the windows.

Zi Han's heart skipped, and she stepped back instantly, lowering her head.

She was certain that for a brief second, his eyes had met hers. And in that fleeting moment, Zi Han felt something cold crawl up her spine, and her heart began to beat rapidly in fear.

He was Ming Ye, the villain and her stepbrother.
