Chapter 55 - Chapter 55 – Arrival at the Hammer’s Landing Site

"The hammer fell from the sky?"

Leon raised an eyebrow slightly when he heard the report. A moment later, a faint smile appeared on his face. If a mysterious hammer had truly descended from the sky, then there was little doubt what it meant.

Thor's story had finally begun.

"Asgard," Leon murmured quietly. "That ancient kingdom hidden deep within the cosmos."

He leaned back slightly, his expression calm as he considered the information.

"They like to call themselves gods," he continued, almost amused. "But in reality they're still just intelligent lifeforms. They're stronger than humans on Earth, sure, but that doesn't make them true gods."

Leon had never held much reverence for the so-called divine kingdoms of the universe. In his eyes, the beings of Asgard were simply powerful extraterrestrial races with advanced abilities and long lifespans. Compared to genuine cosmic entities, they were still far from deserving the title of gods.

"Still," he said thoughtfully, "it might be interesting to see what's happening over there."

He looked toward the air beside him and spoke calmly.

"Send me the details."

"Understood, sir. Please wait," Svija replied immediately.

Moments later, a translucent screen materialized in front of Leon. Streams of information appeared across the display—news reports, satellite images, and intelligence gathered from multiple government databases that Svija had infiltrated.

The moment Leon saw the image of the hammer embedded in the ground, he already knew what it was.

Mjolnir.

Thor's hammer.

The enchantment placed on it by Odin was extremely powerful. Ordinary people could not even move the weapon, let alone wield it. Only someone deemed worthy by Odin's magic could lift it.

This was not simply a matter of physical strength.

The hammer recognized identity and character. Anyone who failed to meet its criteria would find it completely immovable.

"Sir," Svija continued, "the location is currently under the control of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. A man claiming to be Thor attempted to enter the restricted area earlier, but he has already been detained."

Leon nodded calmly.

If Thor had arrived on Earth, then there was no doubt that Loki was somewhere nearby as well. The God of Mischief rarely stayed far from his brother when chaos was unfolding.

Leon felt a small spark of curiosity.

He had never met the so-called gods of Asgard before.

After finishing the report, Leon left his study and walked into the living room.

Behind the floor-to-ceiling window stood Jean Grey.

She was quietly watching the flow of traffic far below on the city streets. The destructive instinct within her personality was extremely powerful, constantly pushing her toward chaos and violence.

But now that instinct was firmly suppressed by Leon.

Their relationship was simple on the surface, yet complicated beneath it.

It was simple because Jean now functioned almost like Leon's subordinate. In most situations, she followed his instructions without hesitation.

But the relationship was also complex.

Jean's true goal was power. She sought strength from Leon and the Phoenix Force he controlled. Their connection was largely physical and transactional rather than emotional.

If Leon had not restrained her with his powerful telepathic abilities, she would likely have already transformed completely into the Dark Phoenix.

"Get ready," Leon said calmly. "We're going to Arizona."

Jean turned toward him.

She was wearing a special combat suit developed in Leon's laboratory—a tight red-and-white uniform that fit her body perfectly. A pale red cape flowed behind her shoulders, emphasizing the elegant lines of her figure.

The outfit highlighted her seductive form while maintaining a cold, imposing presence.

Every time Leon saw her dressed like this, he felt a brief instinctive desire to pull her into his arms and pin her beneath him.

Fortunately, he had excellent self-control.

He was not someone ruled by impulse.

Jean herself also showed little interest in anything beyond the power she could gain from Leon. The destructive impulses within her mind had been locked away by his psychic restraints, leaving her personality unusually calm and distant.

She did not need to prepare anything.

She simply stood there quietly.

Leon walked forward and extended his hand.

Jean placed her hand into his without hesitation, her expression calm and indifferent.

Holding her hand, Leon spoke a single sentence.

"Let's go."

His psychic teleportation ability had grown tremendously in recent days. With a single thought, he could now travel to almost any location on Earth.

Very few mutants possessed such an ability.

The two figures vanished instantly.

In the next moment, Leon and Jean had disappeared from the apartment completely.

Arizona.

A state located in the southwestern United States, most of its land covered by desert. Bordering Mexico, it was a landlocked region with an economy that ranked around the middle of the country.

The two figures suddenly appeared in an open stretch of barren land.

The area was not entirely desert, but vegetation was sparse and the landscape felt bleak and empty.

In the distance ahead of them stood a large temporary camp.

Dozens of armed soldiers patrolled the perimeter. Military vehicles moved back and forth through the facility while powerful floodlights illuminated the area.

At the center of the camp stood a large translucent containment structure.

Something was clearly being held inside.

Leon already knew what it was.

Thor's hammer.

No one had been able to move the weapon. Unless someone possessed truly overwhelming physical strength or met Odin's conditions of worthiness, the hammer would remain embedded exactly where it had landed.

For now, even someone like the Hulk would struggle to lift it.

Leon held Jean's hand as the two of them calmly began walking toward the camp.

Their figures looked extremely conspicuous in the open landscape. They made no attempt to hide themselves.

It didn't take long for the soldiers guarding the perimeter to notice them.

Within minutes, a convoy of vehicles rushed out of the camp and sped directly toward the two approaching figures.

The vehicles stopped several dozen meters away.

Heavily armed soldiers jumped out, weapons ready. One of the trucks even had a mounted heavy machine gun pointed toward Leon and Jean.

As the convoy came to a halt, the man sitting in the lead vehicle suddenly stiffened.

His expression changed instantly.

"Damn it," he muttered under his breath.

"What is he doing here?"

The man was none other than Agent Phil Coulson, the S.H.I.E.L.D. officer who had previously crossed paths with Leon.
