The underground city of Proxima-B had fully awakened.
Blue lights glowed across the enormous metallic structures. Massive machines moved slowly as if the entire city had come back to life after thousands of years.
Aryan and his team stood silently in the middle of the ancient street.
No one spoke.
The mechanical voice they had heard earlier still echoed in their minds.
"Evaluation process initiated."
Zara checked her scanner again.
Her face looked serious.
"The system is scanning everything about us," she said quietly.
"Body temperature… brain signals… even our emotions."
Dax looked around nervously.
"Great. So this alien city is basically judging us."
Aryan tried to stay calm.
"If it wanted to destroy us, it probably already would have."
But deep inside, he wasn't sure.
The Moving City:
Suddenly the ground beneath them began to move again.
Massive platforms shifted.
Walls slowly rearranged themselves like pieces of a giant machine.
New paths appeared while others disappeared.
The city was transforming.
Mira stepped back in shock.
"The whole place is changing."
Zara looked at the scanner.
"I think it's creating a route for us."
"A route?" Leon asked.
"To where?"
Zara slowly pointed toward the gigantic central tower they had seen earlier.
The tallest structure in the underground city.
"It wants us to go there."
Aryan stared at the tower.
Something about it felt important.
Almost like the heart of the entire civilization.
"Then we go," Aryan said.
The team cautiously began moving toward the tower.
The Silent Watcher:
High above them, inside the central tower, Elder Kai watched silently.
Ancient holographic screens surrounded him.
Each screen showed the humans exploring different parts of the city.
Kai observed them carefully.
Their behavior.
Their reactions.
Their courage.
The ancient system spoke through the chamber.
"Species identified: Human."
"Technological level: Developing."
"Threat level: Unknown."
Kai closed his eyes for a moment.
He had seen many civilizations before.
Some curious.
Some violent.
Some too arrogant to survive.
Now it was humanity's turn to be tested.
The First Test Begins:
As the team moved closer to the tower, a massive gate suddenly appeared in front of them.
It rose from the ground like a giant wall.
Zara looked at the glowing symbols across its surface.
"They're similar to the ones we saw earlier."
Before anyone could react, the mechanical voice returned.
This time it sounded louder.
More powerful.
"Trial One: Intelligence."
The symbols on the gate rearranged themselves into a complex pattern.
Zara stepped forward.
"I think it's a puzzle."
Leon laughed nervously.
"An alien escape room."
Aryan looked at the strange symbols.
"What happens if we fail?"
No one answered.
Zara placed her mechanical glove against the gate.
Energy lines connected her device to the alien system.
Data began streaming rapidly across her visor.
"This language is partially mathematical," she said.
"It's asking us to complete a pattern."
Dax frowned.
"What kind of pattern?"
Zara studied it carefully.
Then she smiled slightly.
"A universal one."
She touched the symbols one by one.
The glowing shapes rearranged themselves.
For a moment nothing happened.
Then—
The massive gate slowly opened.
A bright corridor appeared behind it.
The first trial had been passed.
A Warning from the Past:
But before the team could celebrate, something unexpected happened.
A holographic image suddenly appeared in front of them.
A tall figure.
Humanoid.
But clearly not human.
Its eyes glowed softly with blue light.
The figure spoke slowly.
The translation devices struggled for a moment before decoding the message.
"Travelers from another world…"
"If you see this message, it means our civilization is already gone."
Everyone stood frozen.
The hologram continued.
"This city was built to test intelligent life."
"Those who passed were allowed to learn the secrets of our knowledge."
Aryan felt a chill.
"And those who failed?" Dax whispered.
As if answering the question, the hologram continued.
"Those who failed… were erased."
The hologram suddenly disappeared.
The corridor ahead of them remained silent.
The message was clear.
This was not just an exploration.
It was a test for survival.
Someone is Watching:
Far above them in the tower, Elder Kai opened his eyes again.
The first trial had been completed.
But many more remained.
Kai looked toward the corridor where the humans were now walking.
He spoke quietly to the ancient system.
"Continue the evaluation."
Machines across the city activated again.
New chambers unlocked.
New challenges prepared themselves.
The ancient city of Proxima-B had begun testing humanity.
And no one knew how many trials remained.
The Shadow Returns:
As the team walked deeper into the corridor, Aryan suddenly stopped.
Something felt strange.
He slowly looked back toward the city behind them.
For a brief moment…
He saw someone standing on one of the distant towers.
A tall figure.
Watching them.
Silent.
Aryan blinked.
The figure was gone.
"Aryan?" Zara asked.
"What happened?"
Aryan hesitated before answering.
"I think…"
He looked again toward the tower.
But the shadow had disappeared.
"…someone else is here."
And deep inside the ancient city…
Elder Kai continued watching.
Humanity had taken its first step.
But the real test was only beginning.
