Chapter 8 - Chapter 7

Chapter 7: The Storm of the Beginning and the EndThe sky over Loguetown was a bruised, heavy purple, pregnant with a storm that felt less like weather and more like a cosmic judgement. The Going Merry sat at the docks, her silver-violet hull humming with a low-frequency vibration. Thanks to the Vibranium Concept, she was drinking in the restless energy of the harbour, her sheep figurehead's blue gem eyes scanning the horizon for the legendary white mist that guarded the entrance to the Grand Line.I stood on the main deck, my white hair illuminated by a sudden, jagged flash of lightning. I had traded my sunglasses for a fresh pair of dark aviators I'd pulled from the System, and my black jujutsu-style suit remained impeccably pressed despite the rising humidity. Beside me, Nami was checking her new Eternal Chart, her orange hair whipping in a wind that smelled of ozone and sea salt."The pressure is dropping too fast, Silver," Nami shouted over the roar of the gale. "This isn't a normal storm. It's like the ocean itself is trying to push us toward the Reverse Mountain!""The ocean knows its King is coming, Nami," I said, my voice cutting through the wind with a calm, resonant power. I looked toward the center of the town, where a massive wooden structure loomed over the plaza. The Execution Platform. The place where Gold Roger had changed the world with a single sentence."Luffy went to the platform," Zoro said, walking up beside me, his hand on the hilt of the Shusui—wait, no, he still had the Wado and two kitetsu blades he'd just picked up. "He said he wanted to see the view the Pirate King saw.""He's going to see more than that," I noted, my Silver Age intuition flaring. "Buggy and Alvida have teamed up. They're looking for a public execution. And there's a man with a cigar and a lot of smoke waiting in the wings.""Buggy?!" Luffy's voice echoed from the town square, followed by a loud, infectious laugh. "HEY! CLOWN! YOU'RE STILL ALIVE?!""Luffy, stay here," I said, stepping off the Merry. I didn't use a Space-Fold this time; I simply walked on the air, creating invisible platforms of solidified oxygen with every step. I rose above the rooftops, looking down at the town square. The scene was pure chaos. Luffy was pinned to the execution platform by a massive wooden stockade. Buggy the Clown stood over him, a jagged cutlass raised high, his face twisted in a manic, vengeful grin. Alvida, now slim and slippery thanks to her Sube Sube no Mi, stood beside him, preening for the crowd."ANY LAST WORDS, STRAW HAT?!" Buggy screamed, the rain beginning to pour in sheets."I'M GONNA BE... THE KING OF THE PIRATES!" Luffy roared, a massive, fearless smile stretching across his face."DIE!" Buggy swung the blade. At that exact moment, a bolt of green-white lightning—a literal spear of God—descended from the heavens, aimed directly at the wooden platform. In the original timeline, this lightning saved Luffy by destroying the stand. But in Timeline-Silver, I had a different idea.I appeared atop the platform a millisecond before the strike. I didn't dodge. I didn't move. I raised my right hand, palm open, and caught the lightning.BOOM.The roar was deafening. The entire plaza was blinded by a flash of pure white. When the light faded, the townspeople screamed. I was standing there, my hand glowing with a crackling, violet-white electricity. The lightning hadn't hit the wood; it had been absorbed into my body, my cells drinking the millions of volts as if they were a refreshing summer drink."W-What?!" Buggy shrieked, his sword dropping from his hand. "You... you caught the lightning?! Who are you?!""I'm the one who doesn't like interruptions," I said.I looked at the stockade holding Luffy. I didn't break it. I simply touched the wood with my glowing hand.[Concept: Molecular Decomposition.]The heavy oak stockade didn't splinter; it simply turned to dust, the particles blowing away in the wind. Luffy sat up, rubbing his neck and grinning at me."SILVER! THAT WAS SO COOL! YOU LOOKED LIKE A LIGHTNING MAN!""Let's go, Luffy," I said, grabbing his collar and jumping from the platform just as a massive wall of white smoke billowed into the square.Smoker, the Marine Captain and a Logia user, stood in our path. Two cigars were clenched in his teeth, and his body was already shifting into a roiling, semi-solid mist. He looked at me, then at the dust of the execution platform, his eyes narrowing with a grim, professional fury."Monkey D. Silver," Smoker growled. "The 'Silver Monster' of the East Blue. I've seen your file. You think because you can punch sea beasts and catch lightning, you're above the law? You're just another pirate. And in this town, I am the White Hunter.""Smoke is just unburnt carbon and trapped gas, Smoker," I said, sliding my hands into my pockets. "It's a fragile state of matter.""Is that so?" Smoker roared. "White Out!"A massive torrent of smoke erupted from his arms, expanding to fill the entire street. It was designed to entangle and suffocate, a Logia's absolute control over his element. Luffy tried to punch it, but his fist passed through the mist without effect. "EH?! I CAN'T HIT HIM! SILVER, HE'S LIKE A CLOUD!""Watch, Luffy," I said.I took a deep breath. I didn't use heat vision. I didn't use frost. I focused on the Silver Superman within me—the ability to manipulate the fundamental temperature of the environment."Concept: Absolute Stillness."I exhaled a wave of Sub-Zero radiation. It wasn't a blast of ice; it was the sudden, total removal of kinetic energy from the air.The smoke didn't just stop moving. Because smoke is made of particulates suspended in air, the sudden drop to Absolute Zero caused the carbon and gases to instantly solidify and fall. The massive cloud of Smoker's "White Out" turned into a rain of fine, grey soot and frozen oxygen, clattering onto the cobblestones like gravel.Smoker himself stumbled back, his legs—which were still made of smoke—cracking and shattering like glass. He let out a gasp of agony as his Logia form was forced back into a solid, shivering human shape."You... you froze... smoke?" Smoker gasped, his breath hitching in the freezing air."I didn't freeze it. I removed its ability to be smoke," I said, walking past him. "Logias are used to being untouchable. You forgot that everything has a boiling point—and a freezing point."A man in a green cloak appeared in the shadows of an alleyway, his face tattooed with red markings. Monkey D. Dragon. He looked at me, then at Luffy, a faint, proud smirk touching his lips. The wind suddenly shifted, a massive gale picking up to push us toward the harbour."Go, my sons," Dragon whispered into the wind.We reached the Going Merry just as the storm reached its peak. The rain was a deluge, the wind a screaming banshee."SILVER! THE GATES!" Usopp screamed, pointing at the massive, swirling vortex of the Reverse Mountain in the distance.I stood at the prow, looking at the mountain that touched the clouds. This was the entrance to the Grand Line—the graveyard of dreams and the playground of gods."Luffy! Zoro! Nami! Usopp!" I shouted. "Place your feet on the barrel!"We gathered around a small wooden barrel on the deck. Luffy placed his foot on top. "I'M GONNA BE THE PIRATE KING!"Zoro followed. "I'M GONNA BE THE WORLD'S GREATEST SWORDSMAN!"Nami stepped up. "I'M GONNA DRAW A MAP OF THE WHOLE WORLD!"Usopp grinned. "I'M GONNA BE A BRAVE WARRIOR OF THE SEA!"I placed my foot on the barrel, the blue of my eyes glowing through the storm. "And I... I am going to show this world that the sun never sets on the Monkey D. Family."The Going Merry hit the upward current of the Reverse Mountain. Thanks to her Vibranium Hull, she didn't just climb the wave; she absorbed the kinetic energy of the mountain's rush, accelerating until we were a silver-violet blur shooting toward the sky."HERE WE GO!" Luffy roared. We crested the peak of the mountain, the entire Grand Line laid out before us like a field of infinite stars. We were no longer pirates of the East Blue. We were the crew of the Silver King.
