The ocean should have been calm.

Arin Vale stared at the radar screen inside the control room of the research vessel Aquila. The green radar pulse expanded across the screen, but something was wrong.
A massive signal had appeared beneath the ship.
At first, Arin thought it was a glitch.
"Kael," he said slowly, calling his coworker, "you need to see this."
Kael walked over, holding a mug of coffee.
"What is it this time? Another whale?"
Arin zoomed the radar.
The signal expanded.
Ten meters.
Twenty meters.
Fifty meters.
Kael's smile faded.
"Okay… that's not a whale."
Suddenly, the ship shook violently.
The entire crew froze.
"What was that?" someone shouted.
Arin leaned toward the window.
Outside, the dark ocean surface began to swirl.
Then the water exploded upward.
A colossal shape rose from the depths.
Black scales glistened under the moonlight. Its glowing red eyes scanned the ship like a predator examining prey.
Someone screamed.
"Monster!"
But Arin couldn't move.
Because at that moment, a strange voice echoed inside his mind.
Cold. Mechanical. Powerful.

Arin's vision blurred.
