Chapter 25 - Chapter 24: Crisis at Maiden's Peak, the Tentacruel Incident

Leaving Porta Vista behind, Ash and his friends continued their journey along the coastline until they reached a busy port city known as Maiden's Peak. This place appeared far more industrialized than Porta Vista, with numerous cargo ships and ferries docked at the piers.

Their goal was to board a liner here and head toward the next city with a Gym.

However, by the time they reached the pier, they could only watch helplessly as their intended liner pulled away from the port, leaving a dissipating wake in its path.

"Ah! We're too late!" Misty cried out in frustration.

"Looks like we'll have to wait for the next one," Brock said, looking at the timetable with a resigned sigh.

Since they were stuck there anyway, the trio decided to explore Maiden's Peak.

They quickly noticed a palpable tension hanging over the city. Near the bay, a massive construction project was underway, with grand resort hotels and water parks being built amidst the constant roar of heavy machinery. In stark contrast to the development, the nearby seawater looked murky, and a faint, unpleasant odor lingered in the air.

Ash's Aura once again picked up a familiar sense of rage and unease. It radiated from the ocean, feeling even more intense and chaotic than it had back in Porta Vista.

"This place feels... wrong," Ash said, frowning as he looked toward the construction site. "More land reclamation? This seems even worse than what Nastina was doing."

An old fisherman mending his nets overheard them and sighed. "That's Brutella's project. She's Nastina's sister, and she's even more... short sighted. To meet her deadlines, her site completely ignores environmental protection.

Waste and sewage are pumped directly into the sea. This used to be a fine fishing ground, but it's nearly ruined. At this rate, forget the fish even the Tentacool won't be able to stay."

"Brutella?" Ash and the others exchanged looks. They hadn't expected to run into Nastina's sister so soon after dealing with the first one.

Just then, a sudden change occurred!

The seawater in the harbor began to churn as if it were boiling! Countless Tentacool surfaced in a dense mass, and in their midst, a Giant Tentacruel rose larger and with a more ferocious gaze than the one they had seen in Porta Vista!

Its massive tentacles easily smashed a section of the wooden pier, and it let out a deafening roar!

"ROAR—!!"

Unlike the previous encounter, this Giant Tentacruel seemed more intelligent, or perhaps simply more enraged.

It didn't order a full scale assault immediately. Instead, it used Psychic to seize Meowth of the Team Rocket trio, who had just been sneaking out of a corner to deliver their opening lines. Meowth was hoisted high into the air!

"Meow?! What's going on, meow?! Let me go!" Meowth struggled in terror, but he couldn't break free.

Suddenly, a strange broadcast echoed across the entire port. It was a fusion of the Giant Tentacruel's furious will and Meowth's voice, forced out of the feline's mouth:

"Stop! Humans! Cease your destruction! (Meow~!) Our home! Polluted! Destroyed! (That hurts, meow!) If you do not stop! We will level this place! To the ground! (Let me go, meow!)"

The eerie scene left everyone stunned.

The Giant Tentacruel was actually using Meowth as a biological megaphone to clearly express their demands!

"It... it's speaking through Meowth!" Misty gasped in shock.

"It's a warning. It wants the construction to stop!" Ash understood immediately. His Aura could sense the pain and resolve embedded in those words.

Panic erupted at the port as people scrambled in chaos.

Brutella appeared, surrounded by bodyguards. Instead of showing remorse, she shouted in a fit of rage, "This is rebellion! Those damned pests! Call the security team! Drive them all away!"

With conflict on the verge of exploding, the Giant Tentacruel's patience finally snapped. It issued a command, and the army of Tentacool began a violent assault on the harbor facilities.

In the middle of the chaos, Misty's attention was drawn to a faint, pained Aura coming from behind some seaside rocks. As a Water type specialist, she had a unique sensitivity to the emotions of aquatic Pokémon.

She quietly slipped away from the main battlefield and ran behind the rocks, where she found a tiny Horsea lying weakly in the shallows. Its fin had been cut by construction debris, leaving it unable to swim properly, while the water around it became increasingly dangerous due to the swarming Tentacool.

Seeing Misty, the Horsea let out a small, anxious cry, its eyes filled with a plea for help.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here to help!" Misty knelt down immediately, carefully inspecting the Horsea's wound and treating it with a Potion from her bag. Feeling Misty's kindness, the Horsea affectionately nuzzled her hand.

Suddenly, a wooden plank sent flying by one of the Giant Tentacruel's tentacles hurtled toward them! Misty instinctively shielded the Horsea with her body.

"Danger! Staryu, use Water Gun to smash it!"

Staryu appeared just in time, shattering the plank into splinters.

Misty looked at the Horsea clinging to her, then glanced at the rampaging Tentacruel and the chaotic port in the distance. She made her decision.

Holding up a Poké Ball, she spoke softly to the Horsea, "It's too dangerous here. Would you like to come with me for now? Once your injury is healed, if you want to go back to the sea, I won't stop you."

The Horsea looked at Misty, then at its ruined home, and finally nodded, touching the Poké Ball. Misty successfully captured the Horsea.

Meanwhile, back at the main pier, the situation had become critical.

Brutella's security team had entered a direct confrontation with the Tentacool, which only served to further incense the Giant Tentacruel. It began attacking indiscriminately, causing severe damage to the port.

Ash tried to use his Aura to communicate as he had in Porta Vista, but this Tentacruel's rage was too deep; it flatly refused to listen. At that moment, the liner Ash and his friends had been waiting for the next one scheduled to depart blew its horn early. Fearing the collateral damage, the captain prepared to force a departure!

"The boat is leaving!" Brock shouted.

"There's no other choice! We have to get out of here!" Ash decided instantly. The Giant Tentacruel had lost control, and staying behind was too dangerous. "We have to find a way onto that ship!"

The three of them took advantage of a gap in the Giant Tentacruel's attacks and sprinted toward the departing liner.

Ash had Scyther cut through obstructing debris, Brock used Onix to shield them from stray Hydro Pumps, and Misty, clutching Horsea's Poké Ball, dashed forward under Staryu's cover.

In a heart pounding moment, the trio managed to leap onto the deck of the liner as it slowly pulled away. Almost the second they boarded, a powerful Hydro Pump from the Giant Tentacruel slammed into the spot where they had just been standing, completely obliterating the pier.

The liner picked up speed, sailing away from the war zone that Maiden's Peak had become.

Standing at the railing, the three of them watched the distant, towering figure and the pillars of water shooting into the sky. Their hearts were heavy. Brutella's greed and irresponsibility had triggered nature's wrath, and innocent Pokémon and citizens were paying the price.

"Is there really nothing we can do?" Misty gripped Horsea's Poké Ball tight, looking at the pained waters where Horsea had been born. A powerful impulse surged within her. "They just want their home back!"

Suddenly, she saw the Giant Tentacruel become even more manic as the humans fled. It aimed a massive Hydro Pump at an observation tower near the shore where several staff members were trapped, unable to evacuate!

"No!" Misty's pupils shrank. Without a second thought, she made a startling choice. She shoved Horsea's Poké Ball into Ash's hands and sprinted toward the stern of the ship!

"Misty! What are you doing?!" Ash cried out.

"Come back! It's too dangerous!" Brock yelled.

But Misty didn't seem to hear them. She ran to the highest point of the stern, took a deep breath, and used every ounce of her strength to scream toward the port, toward the Giant Tentacruel:

"Stop! Please, stop this instant!!"

Her voice sounded weak against the ocean wind and the sounds of explosions, yet it was incredibly clear, carrying a weight of sincerity and courage that could not be ignored.

The Giant Tentacruel's movements faltered slightly. Its furious compound eyes turned toward the receding ship and the tiny human girl shouting at it.

The captain of the liner wanted to accelerate for safety, but Ash grabbed his arm. "Captain, wait! Believe in her!" His Aura could sense the pure, unwavering resolve in Misty's heart.

Seeing that the Tentacruel had noticed her, Misty climbed onto the railing to make herself more visible. The sea breeze whipped through her short orange hair. Her face showed no fear only truth and entreaty.

"Tentacruel! And all the Tentacool! Please, listen to me!" Misty shouted with all her might, her voice trembling with emotion. "I know! I know your home was destroyed! I know your pain and your anger! Humanity was wrong!"

Her voice traveled across the wind, reaching the port clearly. The chaos seemed to freeze for a moment, and even Brutella looked toward the sea in shock.

"But please, look at this city! Look at the people here who are as innocent as you! They are suffering too! Destruction won't solve anything; it will only bring more hatred and sorrow!"

Misty's eyes welled with tears as she thought of the Horsea she had just rescued and the beautiful sea that should have been. "I promise you! Humanity has learned its lesson! We have seen your rage, and we have heard your voices! (She pointed toward Meowth, still suspended in the air). We know the price of destroying the environment!"

She opened her arms as if to embrace the sea and its inhabitants. "Please, believe in us just once! Take everyone back to the ocean! I promise someone will stand up and stop that project!

We will restore the peace of these waters! From now on, humans will learn how to live in harmony with you and the sea! Give us a chance, and give yourselves a chance to let your home become beautiful again!"

The young girl's sincere and brave cry was like a stream of pure water, washing away the rage and violence lingering in the air. She used no Pokémon power only the strength of her soul to communicate.

The Giant Tentacruel's eyes remained fixed on the small, glowing figure on the ship.

It could sense that there was no deception in the girl's words, only shared sorrow and a firm commitment. That courage to risk herself for the sake of others, including the Pokémon caused its violent impulses to gradually subside.

The Psychic power holding Meowth slowly released, and Meowth fell into the sea with a "plop," scrambling toward the shore in a daze.

For a long time, under the bated breath of everyone watching, the Giant Tentacruel let out a low, non aggressive cry.

It gave Misty one last deep look. The rage in its eyes faded, replaced by a complex emotion scrutiny, hesitation, but ultimately, a choice to believe in this rare human sincerity.

It waved its tentacles and issued a command. The army of Tentacool ceased their attack and, like a receding tide, followed their king into the deep blue water until they vanished from sight.

The sea returned to its natural calm, as if the previous carnage had been nothing more than a nightmare. Sunlight pierced through the settling dust, shining down on the battered but finally peaceful harbor.

On the liner, everyone breathed a sigh of relief before erupting into cheers of survival.

Ash and Brock rushed over to help a nearly exhausted Misty down from the railing.

"Misty, you were too reckless!" Brock's voice was filled with lingering fear and immense respect.

"But you did it!" Ash looked at Misty, his eyes full of pride. "You reached it with your heart!"

Misty's pale face broke into a tired but relieved smile. She took the Horsea's Poké Ball back from Ash and held it gently. "I just... I didn't want to see them, or this city, get hurt anymore."

The liner adjusted its course and slowly sailed away from Maiden's Peak.

Standing on the deck and looking back at the quieting city, the trio knew that Brutella's project likely wouldn't continue. The League officials would surely step in now.

Misty's promise would require the people of this city to work together to fulfill.

Carrying a deeper understanding of life and nature, they continued their journey. Misty's bravery and kindness had not only averted a disaster but had built a bridge of the heart between her and the Pokémon.

The next chapter will involve capturing the Gastly of Maiden's Peak. There are two ways to go about it: one is through battle and "Talk no Jutsu," and the other is a bolder approach resurrecting the Maiden by reshaping her body as a condition for the Gastly to follow willingly.

I wonder which idea you all think is better?
