Chapter 1 - chapter one : A Night She Never Planned

The city glittered like a sea of stars.

From the wide glass window of the luxury club, neon lights stretched across the skyline, reflecting against the smooth river that cut through the center of the financial district. Inside, music pulsed softly beneath the low murmur of conversations. Crystal glasses clinked. Soft golden lights illuminated polished marble floors and velvet seating.

Everything about the place whispered money.

Lin Yue stood near the entrance looking slightly out of place. Not because she wasn't beautiful. In fact, several heads had already turned the moment she stepped inside.

But her beauty was quiet and natural.

Her long dark hair fell softly over her shoulders, and her clear eyes held a calm warmth that felt strangely different from the sharp glamour of the women surrounding her. She wore a simple ivory dress. Elegant. Modest. Nothing like the dazzling designer outfits filling the club.

Beside her, Zhao Min grabbed her arm dramatically and said she still couldn't believe Lin Yue had almost refused to come.

Lin Yue sighed softly and reminded her that she had already explained that places like this weren't really her scene.

Zhao Min rolled her eyes in exaggerated disbelief and replied that this was exactly why she had brought her. She leaned closer, lowering her voice as if revealing a secret, telling Lin Yue she studied too much and worked too much and needed to experience life.

Lin Yue laughed quietly, insisting she experienced life just fine.

Zhao Min clearly disagreed. She pulled her further into the club, declaring that tonight Lin Yue was relaxing whether she liked it or not.

Before Lin Yue could protest again, Zhao Min had already ordered drinks.

Within minutes they were seated in a comfortable lounge area overlooking the dance floor. Music drifted through the air while people laughed and talked around them. Waiters moved quietly through the crowd, balancing trays of colorful cocktails.

Lin Yue took a careful sip from the drink Zhao Min handed her.

It tasted sweet with a faint bitterness beneath the sugar.

She rarely drank, but tonight she didn't want to dampen her friend's excitement. Zhao Min was already talking animatedly about a new fashion brand she dreamed of launching someday.

Lin Yue listened patiently, nodding when appropriate.

But after about twenty minutes, something felt strange.

A faint dizziness crept into her head.

At first she assumed it was the alcohol.

Then the sensation deepened.

Her vision blurred slightly, the lights in the club stretching into hazy streaks of color.

She murmured Zhao Min's name softly.

Zhao Min looked up immediately.

Lin Yue admitted she was feeling a little strange.

Zhao Min frowned in confusion and pointed out that Lin Yue had barely finished half her drink.

Lin Yue pressed her fingers lightly against her temple.

The room tilted subtly, like the ground beneath her feet had shifted.

She whispered that she thought she needed some air.

Carefully, she stood.

But the floor beneath her feet felt unstable, like she was walking on water.

Zhao Min immediately offered to come with her.

Before she could move, however, her phone began ringing loudly.

She glanced at the screen and groaned.

Her father.

Lin Yue forced a weak smile and assured her it was fine. She would just step outside for a moment.

Zhao Min hesitated and asked if she was sure.

Lin Yue nodded gently.

Reluctantly, Zhao Min accepted it and warned her not to disappear.

Lin Yue promised she wouldn't.

Then she walked away.

But instead of finding the exit…

She turned into the wrong corridor.

Her thoughts were becoming foggy. Each step felt heavier than the last. The hallway ahead was quiet and dimly lit, far removed from the lively energy of the club.

Without realizing it, she had wandered toward the private VIP section.

At the end of the corridor, a door slowly opened.

Inside was a luxurious lounge where a small group of men sat casually discussing business over drinks.

At the center of the room sat a tall man with sharp features and calm, unreadable eyes.

Gu Zhen.

CEO of the Gu Group.

One of the most powerful men in the country.

His friends were used to his quiet presence. Even in a relaxed setting, there was something distant about him, something controlled and untouchable.

Then suddenly the door opened wider.

Every head in the room turned.

A young woman stumbled inside.

Her steps were uneven. Her breathing shallow.

Before anyone could react, she lost her balance completely.

She collapsed forward.

Straight into Gu Zhen's arms.

The room froze.

Chen Liang nearly dropped the glass in his hand.

Because everyone present knew one important fact.

Women could not touch Gu Zhen.

Even accidental contact made him violently ill.

They were already bracing themselves for the inevitable moment when he would shove the woman away.

Or worse.

Collapse.

But instead…

Nothing happened.

Gu Zhen remained perfectly still.

The unconscious girl rested against him, her head lightly against his shoulder as if she had belonged there all along.

His body felt warm.

Comfortable.

Calm.

For the first time in twenty-nine years, there was no pain.

No dizziness.

No violent rejection.

Gu Zhen's normally composed eyes darkened with unmistakable shock.

Slowly, almost cautiously, he lowered his gaze toward the unconscious girl in his arms.

For the first time in his carefully controlled life…

Something shifted.

This woman was different.

And he had absolutely no idea why.
