The silence in the grand drawing room was heavy, thick with the scent of expensive cigars and the bitter taste of a forced surrender. Kang Ji-Hoon stood rooted to the spot, his chest tight. He looked at his father—the man who had just systematically dismantled his entire world of freedom with a few phone calls.
Ji-Hoon knew he was trapped. Every luxury he owned, every drop of expensive whiskey he drank, and the very keys to the Lamborghini parked outside were tied to the Kang Group's pulse. He had enjoyed the life of a prince without ever picking up the sword of responsibility. Now, the bill had finally come due.
He took a deep, jagged breath, his shoulders dropping as the defiance drained out of him. Slowly, he sank back into the velvet sofa, his eyes hollow.
"Fine," Ji-Hoon rasped, the word tasting like ash. "I'll marry her."
Chairman Kang Dae-Hyun's cold exterior cracked into a triumphant smile. He sat down opposite his son, leaning forward with newfound warmth that didn't reach his eyes. "You've made the best decision of your life today, Ji-Hoon. This isn't just about a wedding; it's about your future."
"You already had this all planned out, didn't you?" Ji-Hoon muttered, a cynical smirk twitching on his lips. "The financial crisis, the threats... you just waited for the right moment to spring the trap."
"It is for your own good, and the good of this family," his father replied smoothly, ignoring the accusation. "I have already arranged a meeting. A blind date of sorts. You will meet Han Seo-Yeon tomorrow."
Ji-Hoon stood up, his face an unreadable mask. "Send me the address. I'll be there. But don't expect me to be happy about it."
"As long as you are there," the Chairman's voice followed him as he walked toward the grand staircase, "the club stays standing. If not... you know the consequences."
On the other side of the city, a sleek, silver sedan pulled into the driveway of the Han Corporation's private estate.
Han Seo-Yeon stepped out of the car, her movements precise and elegant. Even after a fourteen-hour workday, she looked flawless. In the corporate world, she was known as the "Iron Heiress"—a brilliant, dominant woman who performed the work of ten men by herself. Her father, Chairman Han Jung-Sik, was preparing to retire, and Seo-Yeon was the only one capable of holding the empire together.
She walked into the house, her heels clicking rhythmically on the marble. Her parents were waiting for her in the lounge. Her mother, Mrs. Han Sun-Young, rose to greet her with a soft smile.
"You're home late, darling," Sun-Young said.
Seo-Yeon sat down, her posture perfectly straight. "The quarterly reports needed my final signature. Father, you said you had something important to discuss?"
Chairman Han looked at his daughter with pride, but also a hint of hesitation. "Seo-Yeon, I've reached an agreement with the Kang Group. I want you to marry their heir, Kang Ji-Hoon."
The room went still. Most women would have gasped or argued, but Seo-Yeon simply blinked. To her, marriage was not a fairy tale; it was a merger.
"The Kang Group is influential, equal to us," her father explained. "But they are currently facing internal instability. Chairman Kang and I met recently. He admitted his son is... let's say, a bit distracted by his social life. He wants a partner for his son who can handle the pressure. He wants you."
The Chairman leaned back. "If our companies combine, we will become the undisputed leaders of the industry. You would hold the real power, Seo-Yeon. You would stabilize their ship while steering ours. But... it is your choice. I told Chairman Kang I would only agree if you said yes."
Seo-Yeon didn't think about love. She didn't think about the "playboy" reputation of the man she was supposed to marry. She thought about the Han Corporation. She thought about her father's legacy and her own professional ambition.
"I'll do it," she said calmly. "If it secures our position at the top, I have no reason to refuse."
Her father beamed, a weight lifting off his shoulders. "I knew I could count on you. I've already arranged the meeting. You will meet him tomorrow at the Grand Hyatt."
Seo-Yeon nodded, her mind already moving on to the next day's schedule.
Two lives, miles apart, had just been tethered together. One was walking into a prison; the other was walking into a boardroom. Tomorrow, the "Iron Heiress" and the "Prince of the Night" would finally stand face-to-face.
