Doctors rushed toward Adrian as soon as he entered the hospital.
"Good afternoon, sir. It's been a very long time since you came. Welcome once again."
All the doctors welcomed him politely, but they were careful not to talk more than necessary.
Adrian let out a scoff before speaking, "Keep that welcome aside. I need the best doctor to check my eyes. I don't have much time. So make it quick, and don't make me pissed, otherwise… well, everyone knows."
Adrian let the unspoken threat hang heavily in the air.
The doctors gulped in nervousness and fear before rushing to prepare his room.
Alex took Adrian to the room, while his men waited at the reception.
Silent, observing, sharp—like they were expecting danger out of habit.
Alex guided Adrian onto the hospital bed, which didn't even look like a normal hospital bed.
The doctors and nurses had prepared a luxurious room in a short time.
A few minutes passed, and a woman around her 60s entered the room.
The sound of the door opening made Adrian turn his head toward it, even though he couldn't see.
Alex looked a bit confused about the lady's entry and spoke first, breaking the silence.
"Miss, are you here to—"
His voice cut off as the lady spoke in a gentle, slightly creaky tone, showing her age.
"I am the eye specialist who will check Mr. Volkov."
Alex made a silent "oh" expression before nodding.
Adrian raised his eyebrow slightly before speaking, "I told those fools to send the best doctor, not an old woman."
The lady suddenly smacked Adrian's head like he was a spoiled kid.
Alex froze at his place, shocked by her audacity.
Adrian let out a small "ouch" before speaking, his voice filled with shock and anger, "What the hell are you doing, old woman? Don't you—"
His words were cut off as the lady smacked the back of his head again.
"You need to learn some manners, young man. That's not how you speak to an elder or anyone else. Such language. Keep it in check, or I will teach you how to behave, spoiled kid."
Alex's throat bubbled with suppressed laughter, and he pressed his lips together to control it.
Adrian clenched his jaw, his fists tightening until his knuckles turned white.
No one dared to speak to him like that.
"I am not a spoiled kid," he muttered through gritted teeth, loud enough for her to hear.
"It's Margaret. And don't call me old woman."
Adrian nodded curtly, clearly irritated.
"So, what happened to your eyes? Tell me everything in detail."
She asked as she began checking him.
"Mrs. Margaret, actually boss got into a fight, and his enemy threw some kind of powder into his eyes. After that, boss couldn't see anything," Alex explained briefly without giving too much detail.
Margaret nodded and asked Adrian a few questions about what he felt after the powder hit his eyes.
He answered, still sounding irritated.
"So, you felt a strong burning sensation, and then you lost your sight. That means it could be an alkaline substance," Mrs. Margaret said while writing everything in her notebook.
"Whatever it is, you have 24 hours, Ms. Margaret. Do what you need to do. But 24 hours. No more, no less," Adrian said coldly.
Margaret looked at him with annoyance.
"I am a doctor, not a magician. I can't just fix your eyes instantly. Alkaline damage is serious. It can damage the cornea. I think it will take at least one and a half months to recover. But first, I need to run some tests.
Then we will know clearly."
Adrian's fist slammed onto the bedside table loudly, making Margaret startled.
"One and a half months? Every second is important to me. I can't waste my time lying on a hospital bed," he snapped.
Alex immediately placed a hand on his shoulder and spoke in a calm voice, "Boss, you need treatment. It's non-negotiable. I will handle everything."
Adrian stayed silent.
His expression was cold and angry, but he didn't say anything more.
Because he knew—without treatment, his blindness would only slow him down.
