Chapter 37 - The Great Show. [3]

I didn't know which one got me first, anger or frustration. But at least I know that both of them weren't easy.

Drew was about to lose his life before my eyes, and I had nothing to do except watching—

No,

Think Nathan, Think, Think.

There has to be something, there must be something.

Think—

Wait, Dean!

"Adeline, please wake Dean up. Do anything to do it."

"But— okay, it'll try."

There were various voices after that, and I didn't get the chance to understand any of them before hearing her screaming echoed in my mind.

"He isn't waking up! Wait, I'll try something else." The sound of an electric stun gun was so obvious after that. "Dean! Wait… he is waking up, but it will take a couple of minutes for him to be fully awake."

"Tell him to make an image of Drew then. As fast as possible."

"Drew?"

"He is on the stage."

"...?"

I just stopped the conversation that moment and gave my full attention to the show, which was becoming more and more crazy with every passing moment.

Fire games, high acrobatics, terrifying animals that I wished to never see anything like again in my life, and humans— lots of humans.

It seemed as if these humans would be the one to run the show, and the magician would be the one to watch it.

How cruel.

This is all from the start wasn't anything but a game to him.

Why did a great magician go out of his way to make his last show in such a place? Why do all those crazy things about the festival and the tickets?

Why would he—

Wait a second,

Why was I thinking about 'why' and 'how' when it's all a matter of unreasonable things?

Who could buy the tickets?

Anomalies.

How did I buy the tickets?

That specifically didn't happen until I became familiar with the anomalies in the festival to the point I saw them as humans… So, this place was for anomalies and basically to entertain them… while humans were basically preys.

"Silas—" I called the one next to me then stopped. A hot feeling hurt my throat.

What a terrible mistake, what a terrible mistake.

This wasn't even Silas.

"What?"

"I just—" I didn't even get the chance to correct myself because he gave me a bored side look as if he was thinking that I was acting weird.

I was acting weird, of course.

"What do you want?"

Oh?

That's what that 'what?'was for?

I thought that he would figure out that I wasn't his friend and make a big deal of it! I thought that he may kill me.

"Silas?" I repeated, making sure about the wrong name while risking my life.

And he simply approved it with 'what do you need now?' look.

"Yes? What's exactly wrong with you today? Did you drink soda in the morning instead of coffee or what?"

"Wait, how did you know that I feel extra bad when I do that?!— No, no. Don't answer. There's something more important."

"...okay?"

"What usually happens to anomalies here?"

"Die?"

"...?"

"They usually came at the wrong time and to the wrong places so they got killed by themselves. Still they got killed in various ways depending on who found them." he pointed at the stage with his head. "That one is the worst-case-scenario."

Ah…

That worst-case-scenario was about to make my colleague make a crazy move above a fire that just came out of nowhere.

What to do?

Could I even do anything?

Agh—

I couldn't handle being this helpless…

Think Nathan, think, think.

Think.

What I have that could help?

I made a mental list of the items as fast as I could, and out of all of them, the only thing that seemed to have some help was the tickets that remained with me and the glasses.

The Happy Glasses that I haven't taken off since the beginning.

I looked around, trying to see that gold glow anywhere in all of that chaos.

Fortunately—

There's one,

And unfortunately,

That one was sitting beside me…

Haha—

The Ethics' Vampire.

That Vampire—

I need the vampire because somehow I want something that needs him… and if the 'magnifying property' I may have, did something with the glasses, then it does its job better than what I thought.

Was I over-thinking all of this?

Perhaps.

To make sure that nothing other than the Vampire is glowing in my vision, I re-watch all the places again.

This time the Child Magician glow,

Making me feel as if screaming from the bottom of my lungs won't be enough.

"Seriously…"

What kind of situation was that? How to choose between something that was utterly dangerous in your world and something that was utterly dangerous in this world?

Wait,

Perhaps all of the rumors about the containment team were wrong?

People were talking all kinds of crazy stuff about me when nothing was true. So, they did that also with the containment team also, right?

Right?

I took three seconds to calm myself up before taking my first look at the man beside me.

He was looking exactly the same as the last time I saw him. Lifeless and tired, as if someone forced him to come.

"What do you think that joker's face would do?"

Random talk with a random man beside you, that's all.

"Joker face?" he really answered while looking at Drew's direction when he was doing some crazy acrobatic moves over there. "Ah, the brown head."

So he was wearing the company's watch?

"He'll die."

"...?"

"No human go to such level and returned alive." He seemed unaffected, or simply too tired to feel anything. "Why would such a great anomaly talk to me?"

Eh?

Great what?

Excuse me Sir but I look exactly as myself, can't you see?

"You could get him out of there." I spoke, sounding cold and unemotional. "Do it."

"Why?"

"I'll give you something you need."

Improvisation.

Great improvisation that sounded as if I could give him anything. Which was something far away from reality.

"Why?"

"Fun?" I laughed, looking like a demented. "Why would I rescue such creature if it wasn't for fun?"

"...ah. anomalies being anomalies."

He looked at me this time eye to eye then simply left his had and pointed at my luxurious necktie embellishment.

"This well do."

"Then show me something interesting."

I didn't took it off, since I need to see him do whatever he wanted to do before giving it to him.

The great news was that he seemed so confident.

The bad news was that I witnessed Drew turning to a fire ball afterwards before just vanishing…

My whole thoughts and cells just turned completely Off after that and I nearly hit that man on the face when Adeline's scream woke me up.

"Nathan! Drew is here, he came out of nowhere!—""Okay." I interrupted her then looked at the man beside me with a close smile.

"Fire balls are always great way to get out of life, isn't it."

"I'm happy that you like it."

So you saved him then acting as if killing him was a nice way to answer my request?

Nice move…

Nice move, you crazy human being!

Agh—

What about me then? I nearly got a heart attack!

"It's yours now." I handed him waht he wanted before I stood up. "Whn I see you next time, you better do something cooler."

"Hope that this will never happen."

"How funny…"

I didn't even look at him after that and started to take my way out.

"Where you going?"

"I'm not watching this to the end." I looked at that Silas just for a second before checking the time. "My child is waiting for me."

"Tell him I said hi."

"...? Okay."

Then I walked out while thinking about 'how come that 'child' thing worked too smoothly?' it was totally a made up thing.

Why made up things worked well today?

"For other time, for other time." I sneaked out of the backdoor somehow without any problem. Maybe the fact that they took me as anomaly was a help.

"Adeline, where are you three?"

"Still in the storehouse." She answered while panting. "Don't come near. Stay where you are. I'll tell you when we get out."

"...? I'm already out. Where are you? We need to solve this whole."

"I don't know. Somewhere between the dolls room and the machines room." She stopped for a whole minute after that. "There's a Staff room near too."

"Okay. If you couldn't get out then just hide. I'll see if I could help."

She just agreed then the conversation was done.

I need to give them the tickets I still have, maybe that would help, maybe that won't… but at least if there's a way, we must try it.

"Yes, yes. Just do whatever you can.".

With a deep inhale, I hid myself behind a wall and took the map out. The storehouse wasn't far away so going there wasn't the problem…

The problem was that there was a golden glow, again. But it wasn't on the storehouse—

It was on the Control room.

And for some reason,

That didn't seem a bad choice at all.
