Chapter 5 - Athens

The man saw that I didn't respond and asked again. This time, with Perception of Truth active, I finally understood him.

It seemed language wouldn't be a problem—it just took a bit of time for the meaning to become clear in my mind. Or rather the intent behind the words to become clear is more accurate to describe what happened.

"Who are you?" the man asked cautiously.

"I'm a traveler. My name is Michael," I replied calmly. "I would appreciate it if you could point me in the direction of Athens."

Why Athens?

Because when I watched The Vampire Diaries, Qetsiyah's explanation to Stefan when talking about her story with Silas showed a very beautiful garden and this picked my interest, and after looking it up on the internet, Athens was the most likely location based on acoording to the fand, so a quick recall was all it took to determine my destination.

Also group as large as the Travelers wouldn't stay in small villages, at least in my opinion. And Athens, being one of the largest cities in ancient Greece, was my best first choice.

The three of them looked at each other and whispered something among themselves.

"We can help you," the woman finally said. "If you keep going east, you will reach it."

"Thank you."

There was no reason to waste more time, so I quickly continued east.

The journey was uneventful—at least until now.

I looked at the two men standing in front of me, feeling their malice through Perception of Truth.

How cliché.

Villagers turning to banditry because of hard times wasn't uncommon. But having it happen to me personally made it feel like I had walked into some cliché cultivation novel.

Well… this was a perfect opportunity to test my abilities at least.

"Do you have any food, or drachmas" one of the larger men said as he pulled out a knife.(A/N Drachma is what was used in ancient greece so I will just call it silver coins which is what it was equaled to and the lesser currency bronze coins)

I simply focused my gaze on him and urged my divine power to act through my eyes.

Instantly, the man fell to his knees screaming. Blood began to flow from his eyes, nose, and mouth, and a terrifying light burst from his eyes.

In just a few seconds, the man died.

I killed him.

And all I felt was… nothing.

Not even the "normal nothing" I would have felt in my previous life. Back then, there were still moral constraints, social expectations, guilt—things I knew I was supposed to feel. Even if I didn't empathize deeply, I still understood right and wrong as a system I lived in.

But now?

Nothing.

Was this the template influencing me? As an angel, did sinners simply not qualify for my empathy?

Interesting.

Another thought crossed my mind. My Michael template seemed very similar to the one from Supernatural, based on how that man died. Many abilities and even situations were very similar.

Food for thought. I would ask Meg whenever I saw her again. She never said we would never meet again—only that it would be rare. I made a mental note of that.

If this world followed Supernatural logic for angels, then a lot of things would become much easier to understand and this was simply because I loved the show, and with my memory being enchanced everyhting was quite clear to me.

As for the Vampire Diaries, it could be said that after season 5 I just lost the interest, but the memory is still in my head.

All of these thoughts passed through my mind in just a few seconds. It seemed even my intelligence—or rather, my cognitive abilities—had improved significantly.

"Why aren't you running?" I asked the second man, who stood frozen, unable to comprehend what he had just witnessed.

My voice seemed to wake him from his shock.

"Monster! You are a monster!" he shouted as he turned and ran.

I found that somewhat amusing.

With a thought, I snapped his neck using telekinesis.

He dropped a few meters away from me like a sack of potatoes.

"Smiting and telekinesis are definitely useful," I muttered.

"I need to try my last ability when I reach the city."

Then something came to mind. Meg had said Dream Walking worked within a city radius—but what counted as a "city" in ancient times?

Well, I would find out soon enough.

— Time Skip — Night —

I still hadn't reached the city, but I managed to find a place to sleep in a village not far from it.

Though… did I still need sleep?

Apparently, I could sleep if I wanted to. The only problem was not having a bed. I was lying on a pile of leaves on the ground near one of the houses.

The owners saw my clothes and didn't seem to mind. They probably assumed I was some kind of noble or traveler and didn't want to cause trouble. That was fine with me.

No one bothered me, and honestly, I didn't mind. Even if I socialized with these people, before I could blink a few times, they would already be buried three feet underground.

From my perspective, investing time into short-lived relationships like this didn't make much sense.

I was more interested in tomorrow.

If I met the Travelers… would I be able to use magic?

In my opinion, the answer was probably yes.

The divine power flowing through me—even if it didn't appear on the panel—was what powered most of my abilities. And once my synchronization increased, it would probably appear as a usable energy source.

If it was a higher-dimensional power, then powering spells used by witches—who were essentially servants of nature—shouldn't be impossible.

After all, my Father created nature itself. So what would stop me, as His son, from using it?

That was why I found it highly possible. Not to mention, it would help increase my synchronization rate, and my curiosity about Qetsiyah would also be satisfied.

And most importantly, they were currently creating the immortality spell.

That alone made this worth observing.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even notice the sun rising.

"Phew… I really hope I find a bed in the city," I muttered. "Sleeping on the ground is uncomfortable."

After a quick stretch, I continued my journey slowly.

Unlike yesterday, there was no need to hurry since I was already close. This also gave me time to observe more of the natural beauty of the world.

Soon enough, a huge city—huge for this time period—appeared in front of me.

Athens.

Right in front of me.
