Chapter 166 - Dinner Tension

Part 2: Dinner Tension

Night fell slowly over the mansion.

The lights glowed warmly.

But beneath that warmth—

Something else lingered.

The dining table was set.

Perfect.

Elegant.

Elara placed the last plate carefully.

Her eyes briefly lifting toward the staircase.

"Ethan!"

She called.

"Coming!"

His voice echoed back lazily.

Moments later—

He walked down.

Casual.

Unbothered.

"Wow…"

He looked at the table.

"Are we eating or hosting a wedding?"

Elara rolled her eyes.

"Just sit."

He pulled out a chair.

"Where's the boss?"

As if on cue—

Footsteps followed.

Damian walked in.

Dressed simply.

But still commanding.

Ethan leaned back slightly.

"There he is."

Damian ignored the tone.

Taking his seat calmly.

Seraphina ran in after him.

"Daddy!"

He lifted her easily.

Sitting her beside him.

Elara watched them.

A small smile on her lips.

"Let's eat."

They began.

For a moment—

Only the sound of cutlery filled the room.

Then Ethan spoke.

"So…"

Everyone looked up.

He leaned back slightly.

"This is how you guys live every day?"

Elara frowned.

"What do you mean?"

He gestured around.

"Big house. Silent dinners. Strict atmosphere…"

His eyes shifted to Damian.

"…intense host."

Seraphina giggled softly.

Not understanding.

Elara sighed.

"Ethan…"

"What?"

He shrugged.

"I'm just observing."

Damian placed his fork down slowly.

The faint sound echoed.

Silence followed.

Then—

"If you're uncomfortable, you can leave."

Damian said calmly.

Elara's head snapped up.

"Damian—"

Ethan raised a hand slightly.

Stopping her.

Then he smiled.

"Relax."

"I said I'll survive, didn't I?"

Their eyes met.

Neither looking away.

A quiet challenge.

Then suddenly—

"Daddy, eat!"

Seraphina said, holding up her spoon toward him.

The tension broke instantly.

Damian's expression softened.

He leaned forward slightly.

Taking the bite from her spoon.

"Good girl."

She smiled proudly.

Ethan watched that moment.

Quietly.

Then he spoke again.

"You're different with her."

Damian didn't respond.

But Elara did.

"She's his daughter."

Ethan nodded slowly.

"Yeah… I can see that."

Another silence.

This one lighter.

Elara stood up.

"I'll get dessert."

"I'll help!"

Seraphina jumped down quickly.

"Careful."

Damian said softly.

They both walked into the kitchen.

Now—

It was just the two men.

Ethan leaned forward slightly.

Resting his arms on the table.

"So…"

Damian looked at him.

"You love her?"

The question was direct.

Sharp.

Damian didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

Ethan studied him.

"Good."

A pause.

"Because if you ever hurt her—"

"I won't."

Damian cut in.

Calm.

Certain.

Ethan leaned back.

"Alright then."

Footsteps returned.

Elara walked in with dessert.

Seraphina beside her.

"What did I miss?"

She asked.

"Nothing."

Both men said at the same time.

Elara narrowed her eyes slightly.

"I don't believe that."

Seraphina giggled again.

And just like that—

The night continued.

But something had changed.

Ethan wasn't just a guest anymore.

He was watching.

Learning.

And Damian—

Was aware of it.

Two strong personalities.

One house.

This peace…

Might not last long.

To be continued…
