Chapter 1 - The Truth Buried in Ink

The document was never missing.

It was never stolen.

It was never meant to be found.

That night, after everyone had gone to bed, Ingrid sat alone in her room, the faint glow of a lamp casting long shadows across the walls.

In her hands…

Was the same document.

Her lips curled into a slow, satisfied smile.

"Too easy," she murmured.

She had planned everything.

Every word.

Every reaction.

Every consequence.

Because that document?

It wasn't just paper.

It was power.

Weeks earlier…

Ingrid had discovered something she was never supposed to see.

A file.

Locked away.

Hidden among old documents her husband kept.

At first, she wasn't interested.

But curiosity…

Was a dangerous thing.

And when she opened it—

Her entire world shifted.

The document revealed the truth about the inheritance.

Not assumptions.

Not rumors.

Facts.

Cold. Legal. Undeniable.

The majority of the company… the properties… the wealth—

Everything—

Was tied to one name.

Ryan.

Ingrid's fingers had trembled as she read it.

Not from fear.

But from rage.

"How…?" she whispered.

Her son… her Adam…

Was only entitled to a fraction.

A fraction.

And the reason?

A clause.

A condition written clearly:

"Due to prior financial contributions from the late parents of Ryan, the primary controlling shares shall remain under his name until the age of full legal ownership."

Her nails dug into the paper.

So it was true.

They hadn't taken Ryan in out of kindness.

They had taken him in…

Because they had no choice.

That's when the plan was born.

If she couldn't change the will—

She would change the boy.

Break him.

Discredit him.

Turn him into someone unworthy of inheritance.

Because no one trusts a thief.

No one respects a liar.

No one gives power…

To someone already destroyed.

And so—

She planted the document.

In his bag.

Right where it would be found.

Right where it would hurt the most.

Back to present…

Ingrid closed the file slowly, her expression unreadable.

"Everything belongs to my son," she whispered.

"And I will make sure it stays that way."

Meanwhile…

Riaan sat alone under the dim light of his room, staring at his reflection.

Bruised.

Tired.

But no longer blind.

Pieces were coming together.

The lies.

The setup.

The way everything felt… too perfect.

Too controlled.

His jaw tightened.

"This wasn't random…" he muttered.

"This was planned."

A knock interrupted his thoughts.

Aurora stepped in quietly.

"I found something," she said, her voice low.

Ryan looked up.

"What is it?"

She hesitated…

Then handed him a folded paper.

"I wasn't supposed to see it… but I think you need to."

He unfolded it slowly.

And as his eyes scanned the words—

His expression changed.

From confusion…

To shock.

To something far more dangerous.

"Ryan…" Aurora whispered nervously.

"What does it say?"

He didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he looked up—

His eyes now sharp.

Focused.

Awake.

"It says…" he began slowly,

"That everything they've been doing…"

A pause.

Then—

"…is because of me."

Far away…

Adam stood in front of the mirror, staring at his own reflection.

His fists clenched.

His mind replaying every word Riaan had said at school.

The humiliation.

The laughter.

The shame.

And behind it all—

His mother's voice echoed again.

"He's trying to take everything from you…"

Adam's expression hardened.

"No," he muttered.

"I won't let him."

Two boys.

One truth.

One inheritance.

And a war that had only just begun.
