Chapter 187 - Trust on the Edge

Part 2: Trust on the Edge

The mansion no longer felt safe.

Not completely.

Not anymore.

Something had changed.

And everyone could feel it.

Damian's Study — Morning

Damian stood by the window.

Silent.

Still.

But his mind was moving fast.

"There's a leak…"

The words repeated in his head.

Lucas stood behind him.

Waiting.

"We need to find out who it is."

Lucas said.

Damian didn't turn.

"We will."

A pause.

"But not by rushing."

Lucas frowned slightly.

"You think they're still here?"

Damian finally turned.

His eyes cold.

Sharp.

"Yes."

Silence.

"They wouldn't risk sending one message and disappear."

A pause.

"They're waiting."

Lucas crossed his arms slightly.

"For what?"

Damian's gaze darkened.

"For the right moment."

Dining Area — Same Time

Breakfast again.

But no laughter this time.

Seraphina still smiled.

Still innocent.

But the adults—

Different.

Elara noticed it first.

The tension.

The silence.

"What's going on?"

She asked softly.

No one answered immediately.

Ethan leaned back.

"…Something's wrong."

Amelia didn't speak.

Didn't even look up.

Damian entered slowly.

And just like that—

The room froze.

He looked at all of them.

Calm.

Too calm.

"There's a problem."

Elara's heart dropped slightly.

"What kind of problem?"

A pause.

"There's someone feeding information from inside."

Silence.

Heavy.

Everyone looked at each other.

Confusion.

Shock.

Ethan sat up straight.

"You're saying there's a traitor here?"

Damian's eyes moved across the table.

"One of us."

That hit harder.

Elara shook her head slightly.

"No… that's not possible."

No one spoke.

Because deep down—

Everyone knew.

It was.

Later — Hallway

Ethan walked fast.

Frustrated.

Thinking.

Then he stopped.

Amelia stood ahead.

Alone.

He stared at her for a second.

Then walked closer.

"We need to talk."

She didn't move.

"There's nothing to talk about."

"There is."

She turned slowly.

"I told you to stay away from me."

"And I told you I'm not."

Silence.

Ethan stepped closer.

"Did you know about this?"

Her brows furrowed slightly.

"Know about what?"

"The leak."

A pause.

Her expression didn't change.

"…No."

He studied her face carefully.

Looking for anything.

A lie.

A hesitation.

But there was nothing.

Just… confusion.

He exhaled slowly.

"Then why are you pushing me away?"

She clenched her hands slightly.

"I already told you."

"That's not the real reason."

A pause.

Her eyes flickered.

But she said nothing.

Ethan stepped even closer now.

Lowering his voice.

"Whatever you're hiding…"

"…I'm still here."

That broke something.

Just a little.

She looked at him.

And for a moment—

She almost told him everything.

But then—

She stepped back.

"…Don't be."

And walked away again.

Leaving him with more questions.

Damian — Watching

From a distance.

He had seen it all.

The conversation.

The tension.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

Not at Ethan.

At Amelia.

Something didn't feel right.

Not fear.

Not guilt.

Something else.

And Damian trusted his instincts.

Always.

Night Falls Again

The mansion went quiet.

But no one truly rested.

Because now—

Trust was shaking.

And once trust breaks…

Everything else follows.

Somewhere inside the mansion—

Someone was watching.

Waiting.

And very soon…

They would make their next move.

To be continued…
