Chapter 199 - Chapter 199: Fall (EC)

"Isolde, give her back to me!"

No one could hear Viego's furious roar, but the soul extracted from the Maiden of the Mist first pointed toward Bilgewater, then soon came to Zaun.

Under these circumstances, almost every Sentinel of Light had already drawn their weapon.

"What is this even enough for?"

Caleb was very confused, but then again, if there were that many Sentinels of Light, they would have simply counterattacked the Shadow Isles directly, wouldn't they?

In the end, perhaps this world's understanding of the threat posed by the Shadow Isles was simply off.

Bilgewater did know about it, but there were too many things there that could take their lives. Caleb could understand why they looked down on Black Mist that even Sarah could beat back.

After all, compared with Black Mist that might only come a few times a year, the Mother Serpent, who was there all year round, was probably more terrifying.

That was probably why, after Bilgewater was swallowed, the Black Mist rushed toward Zaun and Piltover almost without obstruction.

"What a bunch of spineless cowards."

Caleb looked at the Enforcers who were still packing up their things, some of them at a complete loss.

Fortunately, Vi had also rushed to the upper city and stood beside Caitlyn, who was already taking aim.

The ground rumbled. With just one press of Heimerdinger's button, the turrets scattered throughout the city all revealed their vicious muzzles.

The Mecha Malphite piloted by Jayce finally broke through the ground with its drill as well.

Camille's eyes flashed again and again, while Orianna quietly stood behind the famous Gray Lady.

Although Piltover could not keep a high-combat-power individual like Caleb, they had still learned something from their heavy losses against the Black Mist.

"To the front line! Fight bravely!"

At Viktor's call, batch after batch of robots continuously surged into the streets.

Caleb's blade had already been drawn. The body of the blade seemed to burn with roaring flames, yet faint cherry blossoms still lingered around it.

"It's here!"

The moment the Black Mist descended to the ground, the monsters inside crawled out and began attacking indiscriminately.

But the Twin Cities had already suffered a great loss against the Black Mist last time. There was no reason to suffer the same loss twice.

The turrets and Mecha suit all aimed at the monarch descending from the sky, but after a round of bombardment, the undead filling the air blocked the attack.

"Come on!"

Caleb carried the World Rune and gripped the hilt of his blade.

He really wanted to test whether the monsters inside this "Black Mist" truly could not be killed by ordinary weapons.

If the artifact Youmuu's Ghostblade, after being strengthened by a demigod, had the same effect as an ordinary weapon, then Caleb was going to curse the designers.

However, when his blade slashed down, the monster in the Black Mist let out a scream, then revealed a smile as it waited for its own recovery.

Caleb had no interest in watching it. Another strike of Mortal Steel followed, and the creature's body was torn apart, melting into the Black Mist.

"Was that a success or a failure?"

Caleb's attack did not have an especially obvious effect, unlike the Sentinels of Light stationed in Zaun, who could destroy the undead with a single strike.

The monsters still shrieked as they charged toward the people, but this time, the Firelights handled these mindless creatures far more easily.

After all, the monsters seemed to be "swimming" through the Black Mist. They were nothing like this group of people, who could pull off all kinds of technical maneuvers while riding hoverboards.

So although the monsters in the Black Mist were furious, they still could not truly do anything to the members of the Firelights.

"Bye-bye!"

Jinx revealed a wild smile. Her Super Mega Death Rocket could finally come in handy.

Trailing a long tail of flame, the Death Rocket rushed right beside Caleb in an instant.

Boom!

A monkey's smiling face seemed to rise from the enormous crater.

And Caleb climbed up from that rare patch of clean ground, covered in dirt and ash.

Using Manaflow Band to maintain Nullifying Orb, Caleb grabbed an undead creature.

The creature clearly had no idea what was waiting for it and was still baring its teeth, trying to bite a chunk of flesh off Caleb's body.

"This isn't any better than last time!"

Caleb swung again, the blade carrying a violent gust of wind, truly scattering the creature's form into mist.

Seeing that the mist did not condense again, but instead remained in place blankly, Caleb understood.

These undead were not indestructible. There were simply too many of them.

And the more they killed, the greater the Black Mist itself became. As the master of the Black Mist, Viego would become stronger as well.

Thinking of Viego's ability to command the Black Mist and erode people's hearts, Caleb could not help feeling that this was troublesome.

This meant that every undead creature's death was actually giving Viego more power to erode the living.

"Are you seriously exploiting a bug right now?"

Caleb could not help snapping angrily.

This power was way too cheap.

What kind of thing had thought up such a troublesome method?

If a loved one became a member of the Ruined army, should you kill them or not?

If you did not kill them, and Viego was defeated smoothly afterward, there was probably a good chance they could return to normal.

The key question was, how long could that last?

Sure enough, the thing Caleb feared most happened in the upper city.

"It's all your fault! You were too weak!"

While fighting side by side with Caitlyn, one voice after another drilled into Vi's head.

"You abandoned your sister! You got your father killed!"

Caleb's previous words had not been entirely free of an attempt to excuse Jinx.

But after hearing them, Vi had always felt that her own responsibility seemed greater, and more central.

Threads of Black Mist slipped into Vi's head. Even Caitlyn's calls sounded distant, as if they came from the far edge of the sky.

A crown slowly formed, and a triangular wound also appeared on Vi's chest.

Even greater changes continued. Not only did her entire body turn gray-black, but her eyes also shone with the same glow as Viego's.

"Vi! Wake up! Vi!"

No matter how Caitlyn called out, Vi's eyes remained just as hollow.

The Atlas Gauntlets were also stained with the colors of Ruination, and a trace of regret and resentment flashed through Vi's eyes.

"If... if I had power!"

Vi gently pushed Caitlyn away. The force behind that push was small, yet it still shoved Caitlyn, who was not strong in close combat, into the Black Mist.

Die with hatred, then turn into an undead.

Or accept the brainwashing brought by the mist and become a servant.

Those two choices were shattered by one fierce laser blast.

Vi pushed the Atlas Gauntlets to full power and leapt high into the air.

What greeted her was a thick pillar of light.

It shone brightly enough for the entire city to see.

...

Noxus, the Immortal Bastion.

If Caleb were here, he would definitely sigh.

The intensity of the attack was on a completely different level.

The Black Mist was eroding the mind of almost every soldier, and even Darius was no exception.

And just as Samira saved him...

Inside the Empire Arena.

Draven, his face covered in blood, stared unwillingly at Riven.

After this woman returned, she had defeated him with a broken sword?

And in his own arena.

It could be said that he had lost every shred of dignity.

The Black Mist slowly covered Draven's figure, granting him the crown above Viego's head and the triangular wound.

Of course, it also gave him power from the Black Mist.

"Now, we begin the second round!"
