Chapter 26 - the queen who needed no lessons

Chapter 26

The room was filled with tension.

Men who never bowed easily…

Were standing in silence.

Waiting.

At the head of the table—

Jay sat.

Calm.

Composed.

Unshaken.

As if she had done this a hundred times before.

But she hadn't.

Not really.

And yet—

No one could tell.

A man spoke.

"There's an issue with the eastern shipment—"

Jay raised her hand slightly.

He stopped immediately.

Silence.

She leaned back just a little.

Her eyes sharp.

Focused.

"How much did we lose?"

Her voice—

Steady.

Clear.

"Thirty percent."

A pause.

Jay nodded slowly.

"And why wasn't I informed earlier?"

The man hesitated.

"I thought—"

"You don't think."

She cut in calmly.

"You report."

The room stiffened.

Because that tone—

It wasn't loud.

But it carried authority.

The kind that didn't need to be forced.

A second man spoke quickly.

"We were handling it—"

"And failed."

Another cut.

Precise.

Clean.

No anger.

Just facts.

Jay leaned forward slightly.

"Fix it."

"How?"

A small pause.

Then—

Her lips curved just slightly.

"Use the route they don't expect."

Confusion flickered across a few faces.

Jay noticed.

Of course she did.

"The one you abandoned two years ago."

Silence.

Shock.

Because she knew.

Everything.

"How do you—"

"Because I listen."

Simple.

But it hit harder than anything.

The room fell completely quiet.

Because now—

They understood.

She wasn't just sitting there.

She was watching.

Learning.

Adapting.

And now—

Leading.

A slow clap echoed from the doorway.

All heads turned.

Keifer stood there.

Watching.

His gaze fixed on her.

Not surprised.

Not doubtful.

Just… impressed.

Jay didn't react immediately.

Didn't turn fully.

Because she didn't need to.

"You're interrupting."

She said calmly.

A faint smirk touched his lips.

"Am I?"

A pause.

Their eyes met.

Something unspoken passing between them.

Then—

Jay gestured lightly.

"Continue."

And just like that—

The meeting resumed.

Because even he…

Didn't override her.

Not here.

Not now.

Minutes later—

The room emptied.

One by one.

Until only the two of them remained.

Silence settled.

Different now.

Lighter.

Keifer walked closer.

Slow.

Measured.

"You didn't ask for help."

Jay finally looked at him fully.

"I didn't need it."

A small pause.

Then softer—

"But I listened to you."

His gaze shifted slightly.

Interested.

"When?"

"When you thought I wasn't paying attention."

A faint silence.

Then—

"You were."

"Always."

That word hung in the air.

Heavy.

Real.

Keifer stepped closer.

Now standing right in front of her.

"You look comfortable there."

Jay tilted her head slightly.

"I am."

A pause.

Then—

"You made me your queen."

Her voice softened just a little.

"So I became one."

Silence.

But it wasn't empty.

It was full of something deeper.

Because she didn't just accept the title—

She earned it.

And he saw that.

Clear.

Undeniable.

His hand lifted slightly.

Brushing a strand of hair away from her face.

A rare softness.

"You were always meant for it."

Jay's eyes softened.

Just a little.

"And you were always meant to be mine."

A beat.

Then—

A faint smirk appeared on his lips.

Because now—

There was no doubt left.

No hesitation.

No imbalance.

They weren't just powerful alone—

They were unstoppable together.
