Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Beneath the Surface

The alley swallowed them whole.

Dark.

Silent.

Endless.

Aarav's footsteps echoed against the damp walls as he followed Zoya deeper inside.

The city noise faded behind them.

Like they were leaving the real world.

"Where are we going?" Aarav asked, his voice low but steady.

Zoya didn't look back.

"Somewhere they can't see us."

Aarav frowned.

"'They' meaning… your favorite Architect?"

She didn't respond.

That was answer enough.

They reached the end of the alley.

A dead end.

Broken wall.

Trash.

Nothing else.

Aarav stopped.

"…seriously?"

Zoya walked straight to the wall.

Knocked twice.

Paused.

Then knocked once more.

Nothing happened.

Aarav raised an eyebrow.

"You sure this isn't just a wall?"

Zoya ignored him.

Instead, she placed her hand on a small metal plate hidden between the cracks.

BEEP.

A faint mechanical sound echoed.

Then—

The wall moved.

Slowly.

Silently.

A hidden door opened.

Aarav's eyes widened.

"…okay, that's new."

Zoya stepped inside.

"Coming?"

Aarav smirked slightly.

"Do I have a choice?"

He followed.

The door closed behind them.

Darkness.

Then—

Lights flickered on.

Aarav froze.

The place wasn't what he expected.

It wasn't dirty.

It wasn't abandoned.

It was…

A bunker.

Screens lined the walls.

Maps.

Data streams.

Weapons.

Technology far beyond anything Aarav had seen.

"This…" Aarav whispered.

"…what is this place?"

Zoya walked toward one of the screens.

"Safe zone."

A pause.

"For now."

Aarav stepped further in, looking around.

"You built this?"

"No."

"Then who?"

Zoya hesitated.

Just for a second.

Then—

"People who didn't want to play the game."

Aarav's eyes sharpened.

"…rebels?"

She nodded slightly.

"Yes."

Aarav let out a slow breath.

"So I'm not the only one who hates this system."

Zoya glanced at him.

"No."

A pause.

"But most of them are dead."

Silence.

Heavy.

Aarav turned toward the screens.

"Then start talking."

Zoya crossed her arms.

"You want the truth?"

Aarav looked at her.

"Yeah."

Her eyes darkened.

"Then stop thinking this is about money."

Aarav frowned.

"…what?"

She stepped closer.

"Money is just the surface."

A pause.

"This system…"

Her voice dropped.

"…controls power."

Aarav's heartbeat slowed.

"Explain."

Zoya tapped one of the screens.

It lit up instantly.

Names appeared.

Hundreds of them.

Some familiar.

Some not.

But all—

Billionaires.

"These," she said,"are not just rich people."

A pause.

"They are nodes."

Aarav blinked.

"…nodes?"

Zoya nodded.

"Each one controls a part of the world."

Another tap.

The screen shifted.

Maps.

Networks.

Connections.

"Finance."

"Media."

"Tech."

"Defense."

Lines connected everything.

Aarav stared at it.

"This is…"

A pause.

"…global control."

Zoya nodded slowly.

"Yes."

Silence filled the room.

Aarav stepped back.

"So the 'Billionaire Protocol'…"

A pause.

"…isn't about rich people."

Zoya looked at him.

And said—

"It's about controlling the world without anyone noticing."

Aarav felt a chill run through his body.

"And replacements?"

Zoya's expression hardened.

"Insurance."

A pause.

"If someone becomes a problem…"

Her voice dropped—

"…they get replaced."

Aarav clenched his fists.

"Killed."

Zoya didn't sugarcoat it.

"Yes."

Silence.

Then—

Aarav looked at her again.

"And what about us?"

A pause.

Zoya held his gaze.

And said—

"We're not players anymore."

Aarav nodded slowly.

"I figured."

She continued—

"We're anomalies."

Aarav smirked slightly.

"I like that word."

Zoya didn't smile.

"You shouldn't."

A pause.

"Because anomalies…"

Her voice turned cold—

"…get erased."

Silence.

Aarav looked around the bunker again.

"So this place…"

A pause.

"…is where anomalies hide?"

Zoya nodded.

"Yes."

Aarav exhaled slowly.

"Then what's the plan?"

Zoya didn't answer immediately.

Instead—

She walked toward a locked drawer.

Opened it.

Pulled something out.

And tossed it to Aarav.

He caught it.

Looked down.

A gun.

Real.

Heavy.

Loaded.

Aarav froze.

"I don't—"

Zoya cut him off.

"You do now."

Silence.

Aarav stared at the weapon.

Then—

Slowly—

He tightened his grip.

Not shaking anymore.

Not panicking.

Just…

Accepting.

"Good," Zoya said.

A pause.

Then she stepped closer.

"Because from now on…"

Her eyes locked onto his.

"We don't run."

Aarav's expression hardened.

"…we fight."

Zoya nodded.

"Yes."

The screens flickered again.

A new message appeared.

Red.

Dangerous.

SYSTEM ALERT:TARGETS LOCATEDELIMINATION SQUAD DEPLOYED

Aarav looked up.

"…that didn't take long."

Zoya smirked slightly.

"They never do."

A pause.

Then—

She loaded her weapon.

CLICK.

Aarav did the same.

Less smoothly.

But still—

Ready.

Or at least…

Trying to be.

As footsteps echoed faintly outside—

Aarav took a deep breath.

And for the first time—

He didn't feel like prey.

He didn't feel like a target.

He felt like something else.

Something dangerous.

Something rising.

"Let them come."

Zoya smiled slightly.

"Now you're learning."
