Chapter 10 - Who Is She?

Lian was chilling in the backyard of Milo's house, sitting lazily with Marshmello beside him, absentmindedly stroking the soft fur of the tiny bunny. He had already said—far too casually—that he would man up and go greet the woman and her father. But now that the moment was actually approaching, he found himself mentally preparing, overthinking every possible detail before even stepping out.

Gosh… this is way harder than I thought.

He leaned back slightly, exhaling.

Anyways… I agreed to this on my own. There's no backing out now…

His fingers paused for a second as his thoughts spiraled again.

But seriously though… how would she react watching me for the first time? Will she look down on me? Because of my attire? Ah shit—I don't even have good clothes to wear…

He suddenly sat up straighter.

No problem. I could borrow some of Milo's clothes for that… yeah, that works.

A small nod, like he just solved a life crisis.

Then immediately…

another one hit.

Okay… just assume I'm standing in front of her. What should I say? How do I greet her without sounding like a complete weirdo?

He cleared his throat and sat properly, like he was in an imaginary rehearsal.

"Okay… how about this…" he muttered to himself, straightening his posture. "'Hey! I am Lian… wassup?'"

He froze.

"…okay, that's too lame."

He tried again, more serious this time.

"'Hey! I am Lian… nice to meet you. By the way, you look incredibly beautiful in this outfit, I love it…'"

He cringed instantly.

"That sounds too desperate…" he groaned, dragging his hand down his face.

A small chuckle escaped him.

"I talked to a few girls before, but at that time I didn't have this much pressure. Why now? Is this because the girl I'm going to marry is my fiancée?"

He fell back again, staring up at the sky.

"Ahh man… now I think I should really go and talk to her at least. I definitely lost my first impression in front of her because of my stupidity… now I should speed up."

He turned his head slightly.

"What do you say, Marshmello?"

Silence.

Lian blinked.

He looked beside him.

Empty.

"…where did he go?"

His body stiffened instantly as he sat up straight, scanning the area.

"Marshmello?" he called, his voice rising slightly as he checked around the backyard, the doorway, even behind random objects like the bunny could magically hide there.

Nothing.

Now he was panicking.

"Shit… did that punk really eat my baby? I am gonna kill that bastard!!!"

Without wasting another second, he literally dashed inside, storming straight toward Milo. Before the poor guy could even react, Lian jumped over him and grabbed him by the collar.

"Dude—the fuck was that move?!" Milo shouted, completely caught off guard.

"Where is my baby? What did you do to that poor fluff ball?" Lian demanded, his voice dead serious, eyes narrowed like he was ready to commit a crime.

"You have a baby? I don't know about that," Milo replied, confused.

"I am talking about my baby Marshmello!"

"Ohh, that rabbit…" Milo scratched his head. "I saw it going out through the front door. Seems like you gave your son too much freedom, so probably he's out there chasing some female bunnies like every other spoiled kid."

"Yah you stupid, he is just 3 weeks old!"

"Okay then, probably went to get some fresh air… away from his grumpy father."

Lian stared at him for a second.

"I am wasting my time. I am going outside to search for him. I will be back."

With that, he grabbed his coat and rushed out without another word.

Where would he go…? Ah, let's search the surroundings. He's probably nearby… or something…

He started searching everywhere around the area, calling out softly, checking corners, bushes—anything. But there was no sign of that tiny white fluff.

Then something clicked.

The lake.

He used to bring Marshmello there often.

Maybe… he went there for food.

Without wasting time, Lian headed straight toward the lakeside. But the moment he reached there he stopped.

Something felt… off.

There was a presence.

In his spot.

Strange… no one in this village knows about this place… then who is that?

His curiosity instantly took over. He quietly moved and hid behind a tree, carefully peeking from the side to observe.

a girl.

Sitting on a rock Facing the lake. Her figure calm, almost blending into the scenery. But he couldn't see her face clearly. She was slightly turned away, and her hair fell over it, hiding her features.

A woman? Ahh… I can't even see her face…

Determined, he shifted awkwardly, balancing on one leg while the other hung mid-air, doing questionable gymnastics behind the tree just to get a better angle.

"Wait… what is she doing in that bush?" he whispered.

He leaned a little more…and then his eyes widened.

"Oh my god!!!! That's Marshmello…she found him!"

His body moved on instinct, about to rush forward to grab his bunny—but then he stopped.

Something held him back.

He watched Carefully, silently.

She took out a kerchief and wrapped it around Marshmello's injured leg Stopping the blood. His expression slowly changed. The tension in his body eased.

Wow… such a kind-hearted girl…

A soft smile formed on his lips as he continued watching her movements—gentle, patient, careful in a way that felt… genuine.

Now she sat with the bunny in her lap, softly brushing its fur with utmost care.

What is she mumbling about? I can't hear it…

He leaned slightly closer, trying to listen.

She seems lost in thoughts… and definitely looks like someone who carries a lot behind her…

His gaze softened.

I've never seen her in this village… is she really from Mistwood? I don't think so…

Still half-hiding, half-balancing like a complete idiot behind the tree—

Suddenly…

rain started falling.

"Oh shit!!! Thank god I at least took this coat with me—"

He quickly covered his head and was about to turn back…

But something made him look again.

Just one glance.

And that was it.

His body froze.

The coat slipped from his hands.

His eyes widened.

Everything else—

blurred.

Except her.

There she was.

Now fully visible.

Her face turned slightly upward, eyes closed, letting the rain fall freely over her skin. Droplets traced down from her forehead to her chin, glistening like tiny crystals. The soft glow of her diamond jewelry shimmered under the dim, cloudy light, catching every flicker of movement.

Her gown—

soaked slightly—

shimmered even more under the muted sunlight filtering through the rain, making her look almost… unreal.

Like something out of a dream.

Like something not meant for this world.

Like an angel.

Lian slowly turned completely toward her, now standing in the rain, completely drenched, his mouth slightly open, his breathing uneven.

Everything around him disappeared.

Sound.

Movement.

Time.

All gone.

Only her remained.

"Oh… My… Goodness…"

His voice barely existed.

"Sh… she… she is… she is an angel?"

His heart pounded violently against his chest.

"She is looking… looking—oh my…"

Words failed him.

Completely.

What the heck is happening to me…? Why can't I see anything else but her?

His fingers trembled slightly.

And this feeling… oh my god… I've got goosebumps all over my body…

His breathing grew heavier.

I can hear my own heartbeat… it's so loud… it's beating so fast…

Rain soaked through him completely.

But he didn't move.

I can feel that I'm completely drenched… but I can't move… I don't want to move…

His eyes remained locked on her.

I want to go near her… watch her a little more closely… I feel like I could literally sit and watch her all day long…

A soft, almost dazed whisper escaped him—

"Oh my gosh… she is looking so beautiful…"

And then—

like a sudden snap—

he came back to himself.

He blinked rapidly, shaking his head once.

"Shit… shit—where is she?!"

He looked around frantically.

The spot was empty.

The lake silent.

The rain still falling.

But she—

was gone.

"God dammit!"
