Chapter 22 - A Quiet Change

The days didn't feel as heavy anymore.

Zoya had started talking.

Not much.

Not openly.

But enough—

to be noticed.

Small replies.

Soft acknowledgments.

Nothing more.

But not nothing either.

At the hospital—

life moved differently.

Patients.

Voices.

Responsibility.

One day—

a case came in.

A woman.

Weak.

Unconscious.

Zoya checked her reports carefully.

Then she asked—

"Where is her husband?"

The nurse hesitated.

"He… left."

Zoya frowned.

"Left?"

"He said he couldn't pay the fees… and just went away."

Silence.

Zoya stood still.

Her eyes slowly lowered.

A memory surfaced.

Not loud.

But clear.

Armaan.

Handing over everything.

His project.

His money.

Without hesitation.

Just to save her.

Her fingers tightened slightly around the file.

That moment—

felt different now.

Not forced.

Not controlling.

But… protective.

She didn't say anything.

But something inside her—

shifted.

That night—

her phone rang.

Her best friend.

"Finally!" her friend laughed,

"madam doctor is free?"

Zoya smiled.

They talked.

About everything.

The hospital.

Life.

Random things.

And for the first time in days—

Zoya laughed.

A real one.

Outside the room—

Armaan stood quietly.

He hadn't meant to stop.

But when he heard her laugh—

he did.

And for a moment—

he just stood there.

Listening.

A small smile appeared on his face.

Because after so long—

she sounded like herself again.

Inside—

the call continued.

Then her friend's voice softened.

"You both are married now…"

Zoya stayed silent.

"Try giving him a chance," she added gently.

"He's not the same person anymore."

Zoya looked down.

She didn't reply immediately.

Because the truth was—

she had already started thinking the same.

Not fully.

Not completely.

But enough—

to consider.

The call ended.

That night—

Zoya didn't cry.

She didn't overthink.

She just… rested.

The next morning—

felt different.

Lighter.

Zoya got ready for the hospital.

As she stepped out—

she looked… radiant.

Not just because of how she looked—

but because something inside her had softened.

A servant passing by smiled.

"Madam… you're glowing today."

Zoya paused.

Then replied lightly—

with a hint of sarcasm,

"I'm already married, remember?"

The servant chuckled softly.

Zoya smiled faintly—

and walked out.

Unaware—

that someone had already left.

Armaan.

Busy with work.

Still carrying stress.

Still unaware—

that something had changed.

Not in the world.

But in her.

And sometimes—

the biggest changes happen quietly.
