Chapter 17
The next morning, the office looked exactly the same.
Same chatter spilling from the elevator bay, same faint hum of air-conditioning, same smell of burnt coffee drifting through the executive floor.
But somehow, everything felt different.
My heels clicked softly against the floor as I walked in confident strides down the hall until I was in my office. William's usual coffee order was in one hand and my bag was on the other. Immediately I stepped in, I set them both down on my desk and shrugged my jacket off.
I could tell William had already arrived.
The soft yet engulfing smell of his cologne was enough to give it away.
Taking the Styrofoam cup of coffee in my hand again, I made my way to his office door and knocked softly on it.
"Come in."
