The beast beneath the capital was chained by an ancient bond formation connected to the bloodlines of several noble houses. Over centuries the formation had weakened, the chains were no longer restraining the creature properly. Corruption leaked through cracks in the seal and spread through the underground tunnels beneath the kingdom.

Kaelen was to descend alone into the underground chamber carrying the crystals. The crystals would absorb corrupted mana while simultaneously acting as replacement anchors for the damaged formation.
