He climbed down into the dark tunnel.
The walls of the crack were rough, crumbling, wet with condensation that froze on Kaelen's gloves and made every handhold a gamble. Sprite clung to his shoulder, claws digging through his coat, the beast's ember eyes the only light in the suffocating black. Below him was, nothing. A void that swallowed sound, heat and light.
As he was moving a voice sounded above him.
"Really mature."
He paused, above him was Lysander and beside him were knights all looking at him.
"I was just looking."
"I had a feeling you would do something stupid."
He then climbed down and aske the knights to guard the area.
"Let's go see your plan."
Lysander climbed beside him, silent and steady, his breath fogging in the cold air that rose from somewhere deep. The duke was clearly angry, he had shifted into something else, something sharper, not like what he was used to.
