Today was really the first day of school. Before going in, we updated each other in the group chat to make sure we were ready.
"Good morning! Are you excited for the first day?" Amari asked.
"I'm excited but also a little nervous," I replied.
"Same here," Ophelia said. "I don't know what to start with, the subjects or the new schedule."
I laughed at what she said. "Maybe we should just check our things and look at the subjects. We need to bring everything anyway."
While we were talking, I couldn't help looking at my phone. Every message from them made me feel lighter. Even though I was a little nervous, I could feel the excitement. It felt like a special kind of happiness even though our updates were simple.
"Okay, let's go now. We might be late," Amari said.
We walked to school carrying our bags and baon. On the way, we talked about the new subjects and who our classmates would be. Unexpectedly, we realized that the three of us were in the same class.
"Wait, we are in the same class?" Ophelia said, surprised.
"Wow, okay!" Amari said, smiling. "This is more fun. I won't be alone in the new setup."
I smiled too. "Yes. At least we are together. It makes the start of the school year easier."
When we got close to the school, we felt the energy around. Many students were walking in with their bags, notebooks, and baon. Some were talking while arranging their new things.
"There are so many people," Ophelia said, looking around.
"Back to school is really here," I said.
We went straight to the school grounds for the flag ceremony. The area was full of noise from laughter and chatting classmates. The place was colorful and lively even if it was only Monday.
While waiting in line for the flag ceremony, Amari, Ophelia, and I talked about our subjects and teachers. I smiled at their simple stories. I could feel the excitement in every movement, especially while holding our baon and new supplies.
As I thought about it, I realized that even if it was just because of the baon, it made the start of the day more fun. "I'm a little excited for school because I have baon again," I told them.
"Ahh, that's why," Ophelia said, laughing.
I nodded. "Yes. Even just a simple baon makes my day feel complete."
After the flag ceremony, we walked to our classroom. On the way, I saw other classmates talking and arranging their things. I smiled as I thought about the evening and my simple chat with Sevi. Even if we didn't see each other at school, I could feel his support. It felt like even through simple texts, we still had a connection.
When we got to the classroom, we arranged our things on the desks and sat next to each other. I could feel the excitement for a new start. Back to school again, ready for new experiences, new knowledge, and days full of small joys, laughter with classmates, and a little thrill from messages from friends.
The class started at 8 a.m. and after finishing all subjects and activities, we went home at 6 p.m.
On the way home, I grabbed my phone and opened the chat with Sevi.
"Hi," I typed.
"Hey," he replied immediately.
I smiled seeing his name. "How was your first day?" I asked.
"It was okay. A little tiring but fun. You?" he asked.
"Same here. Busy with the new schedule and already some homework. But it was fun because Amari and Ophelia are in my class too," I said.
"Nice. At least you are not alone," he said.
I nodded to myself while typing. "Yes. I'm also a little excited because I have baon again today," I said, laughing a little.
"Ahh, that's why you are happy," he said.
I smiled even more. "Yes, even just a simple pocket money makes my day feel complete."
We continued a simple chat about school, teachers, and new subjects. The chat wasn't long, but it made me feel lighter after the first day.
Before we ended the conversation, he sent a message.
"You should sleep. You might be tired."
I looked at it for a moment before replying. "You too."
I put my phone beside my pillow. Staring at the ceiling, I couldn't help smiling. Sometimes, even a simple chat at night is enough to feel that someone is thinking about Sevi.
