Lirien's POV
The afternoon passed quietly.
I sat propped up against several pillows in the hospital bed while soft sunlight filtered through the blinds. Golden lines stretched across the floor and walls, giving the room a warm glow.
The steady beeping of the monitor beside my bed had become familiar.
Comforting, even.
My body still hurt.
Every movement reminded me of the difficult birth.
My muscles ached.
My back hurt.
Even shifting slightly against the pillows made me wince.
But somehow, none of it mattered very much.
Because every time I looked toward the bassinets beside my bed, my heart felt lighter.
Dasien.
Valiera.
Lirael.
My babies.
Our babies.
The three tiny bundles slept peacefully beside one another.
Valiera had somehow managed to kick her blanket halfway off.
Lirael slept with his tiny fist tucked beneath his chin.
Dasien occasionally made little noises in his sleep that melted my heart every single time.
I couldn't stop watching them.
