Melanie looked at the Kingswood Primary School building in front of her. She remembered being in Year One –freshly enrolled, barely settled in– when her dad withdrew her at the end of the first term. No explanation. No warning. Just "it was for the best," which was what he always said when he didn't want to explain himself.
"You know, this was my first and former school," Melanie spoke to Riley as they walked
"Now I know. It's beautiful – and expensive"
"I made memories here…" Melanie's voice trailed off. She shouldn't have said that, she didn't want Riley to know that she had been suspended when she had been in reception for pulling lots of pranks. Or was expelled in Year One for bad behaviour. Many thought that was the reason she left the school.
She really hoped no one would recognise her from Year One, but the weird glances she was receiving from the teachers said otherwise. Okay, maybe they were just staring because two bodyguards were escorting them.
