Twenty minutes into the walk, Tessa began hearing muffled sounds from deeper within the forest. It sounded as though something was being violently torn apart.
A chill ran down her spine.
She looked back at her companions, horrified and unsure of what to do.
"What is that noise?" she asked, nearly jumping out of her skin when the leaves rustled again nearby.
Leonard, who seemed annoyed by the constant sounds, clicked his tongue and started walking toward the source.
"It's probably just a rabbit looking for food," he said confidently.
Tessa frowned.
Something about that explanation felt wrong. Rabbits didn't usually make noises that sounded like a massacre.
"Don't go, Leonard. You might get hurt."
Unfortunately, Leonard wasn't the type to listen. Hmm probably a few times he does listen but times like this he doesn't hear a word.
He waved dismissively and continued deeper into the forest until he disappeared from sight.
