Without a blink of an eye, Tessa approached the trap fearlessly. Not because she was foolish enough to step on it, but because she wanted to make sure there weren't any more hidden dangers blocking their path.
After confirming it was safe, she bent down and picked up a sharp shell she'd noticed earlier. With a quick slice, she cut through the rope holding the trap.
The moment the rope snapped, Leonard dropped heavily to the ground.
Face first.
"Ouch!"
His groan echoed through the forest.
Valen immediately smirked.
"Good to know you can actually feel pain."
Tessa didn't bother correcting him. They could insult each other all day for all she cared. As long as nobody was trying to murder anyone, she considered it progress.
She stretched out a hand toward Leonard.
"Get up."
Leonard raised his head and accepted her hand far too eagerly.
Unfortunately for both of them, things didn't go according to plan.
