Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Calm Before the Shift

The next morning at Crestwood Elite Academy felt no different from the last—on the surface.

Students walked in with the same confidence, the same pride, and the same invisible competition that defined their lives. Expensive cars lined the entrance, drivers opening doors as if it were a daily ritual of royalty.

And among them…

Aaryan Raizada walked in on foot.

Calm. Unbothered. Unnoticed—at least, that's what most people thought.

But that wasn't entirely true anymore.

"Hey, isn't that the new guy?"

"Yeah… the quiet one."

"He doesn't act like the others…"

Whispers had started.

Aaryan noticed them, of course.

But he didn't react.

Instead, his eyes scanned the campus as he walked—every corner, every group, every interaction. He wasn't just attending school.

He was studying it.

Inside the classroom, the atmosphere was already lively.

Rhea was laughing loudly with her group, clearly the center of attention as always.

Tara was leaning over someone's desk, probably teasing them about something.

Anika sat quietly in her seat, flipping through her notebook.

Kiara… was watching.

Not the class.

Not her phone.

But people.

Including him.

Aaryan noticed that too.

"Interesting…" he thought.

"Good morning, class."

The teacher entered, and everyone slowly settled down.

Aaryan took his seat like before—calm, composed, perfectly balanced.

For a moment, everything felt normal.

Until—

"Hey."

A voice came from beside him.

Aaryan turned slightly.

It was Tara.

She had somehow moved her seat next to his.

"That was fast," he said calmly.

Tara grinned. "What can I say? I get bored easily."

Aaryan raised an eyebrow. "And I looked entertaining?"

"Very," she replied instantly.

Before he could respond, another voice joined in.

"Don't encourage her."

Rhea walked over, placing her bag on the desk in front of them.

"She'll never leave you alone after that."

Aaryan leaned back slightly. "Sounds troublesome."

Tara gasped dramatically. "Wow, I'm offended."

"You don't look offended," Aaryan replied.

"I'm hiding it well," she shot back with a smirk.

Rhea chuckled.

"See? You're already fitting in."

Aaryan didn't reply.

But a faint smile appeared on his lips.

Across the room…

Siya Kapoor sat by the window, her chin resting lightly on her hand.

Her gaze drifted.

Not intentionally.

Just… naturally.

For a brief moment, her eyes landed on Aaryan.

He was talking.

Not much.

But enough.

Tara seemed unusually energetic around him.

Rhea looked… interested.

Siya blinked.

Then looked away.

"…Why are they even talking to him so much?"

The thought came and went just as quickly.

She didn't dwell on it.

She didn't care.

At least… that's what she told herself.

After class, the corridor buzzed with noise.

Students gathered in groups, discussing assignments, gossip, and everything in between.

Aaryan walked alone.

Peaceful.

Until—

"Wait!"

Soft footsteps hurried behind him.

Aaryan stopped and turned.

Anika stood there, slightly out of breath.

"Uh… I just wanted to give you this," she said softly, holding out a notebook.

"You forgot it yesterday."

Aaryan looked at it, then at her.

"…Thank you."

Anika nodded quickly. "No problem."

She hesitated for a second, then added, "If you need help with notes… I can share mine."

Aaryan studied her for a brief moment.

She avoided eye contact.

Nervous.

Genuine.

"I'll keep that in mind," he said politely.

Anika smiled faintly.

Then quickly walked away.

From a distance…

Someone had seen that.

Siya.

She wasn't trying to watch.

It just… happened.

Her eyes had caught the interaction.

The way Anika spoke.

The way Aaryan responded.

Simple.

Normal.

Yet somehow… noticeable.

She frowned slightly.

"…He talks differently with everyone."

And for some reason—

That stood out.

Later that day, during sports period—

The energy shifted.

The field was alive with activity.

Students played basketball, ran laps, or simply watched from the sidelines.

Aaryan stood near the edge, observing.

"You don't play?"

A voice came from behind.

He turned.

Kiara.

Her eyes met his—calm, unreadable.

"I do," Aaryan replied. "Just not immediately."

Kiara tilted her head slightly. "You like observing first?"

"Yes."

"…Why?"

Aaryan's lips curved slightly.

"Because people reveal more when they think no one's watching."

Kiara stared at him for a moment.

Then a faint smile appeared.

"You're interesting."

"So I've been told."

Nearby—

Tara was trying to drag Rhea into a game.

Anika was quietly watching.

And Siya…

Was playing.

Focused. Sharp. Competitive.

Yet—

For a brief second—

Her eyes shifted.

Toward him.

Again.

Just for a moment.

Then back to the game.

As the final bell rang, the day came to an end.

Students began leaving in groups, laughter echoing through the campus.

Aaryan walked out alone once again.

But this time—

The difference was clear.

More eyes followed him.

More whispers surrounded him.

More curiosity had grown.

At the gate, a car was already waiting.

He stepped inside.

As the door closed, his calm expression remained unchanged.

But his thoughts moved.

"Day by day…" he murmured.

"It's getting more interesting."

His phone buzzed.

A message from his grandfather.

"Enjoying yourself?"

Aaryan smirked.

"More than expected."

Back at the academy gate—

Siya stood with her friends.

But her attention drifted once again.

Toward the road where Aaryan's car had just left.

She didn't say anything.

Didn't react.

But for the first time—

A small thought crossed her mind.

"…Who exactly is he?"

And somewhere deep inside—

The first shift had begun.

Not jealousy.

Not yet.

But something…

That would eventually lead to it.
