Chapter 7 - The departure

You turn to the celebrating crowd during a quiet moment in the feasting, your voice carrying that gentle cosmic echo only Mira hears at first. With a single, deliberate snap of your fingers, you speak the wish clearly:

"I wish every adult in Eldenwood gains basic defensive magic and unbreakable courage."

A soft wave of golden starlight ripples outward from you, invisible to outsiders but felt by every soul inside the barrier. Every man and woman in the village suddenly stands taller. Simple farmers feel new strength in their arms—enough to summon small shields of light or throw bolts of harmless force. Hunters instinctively know how to call thorn vines or healing sparks. Even the elders gain a quiet, unbreakable resolve that no fear can break. Children watch in wonder as their parents test tiny sparks of magic that dance harmlessly between their fingers.

Gasps and joyful cries fill the square. "We can fight now!" "No more hiding!" "The spirit of the woods blesses us again!" They bow toward you once more, but still whisper only "the spirit" or "the blessing"—never your name aloud. The oath holds ironclad. Eldenwood is no longer helpless; it is a quiet fortress of loyal, empowered people.

You pull Mira aside near the head table, away from the loudest cheers. Her fox ears perk as you speak:

"Mira, with this village now stronger and safer than ever, I ask you this: Become my official guardian and travel companion. Walk beside me across this world. Protect my secrets with your blade and magic. See kingdoms, adventures, and wonders at my side. Your loyalty has earned this place of honor."

Mira's emerald eyes shine with pure devotion. She drops to one knee, Starfang resting across her palms like an offering.

"Lord Grim… nothing would honor me more. I accept with all my heart and soul. I will guard you, your secrets, and your will until the moons fall from the sky. My sword, my magic, my life—they are yours. We will travel when you command, and Eldenwood will remain safe under the barrier and my new brothers and sisters."

She rises, tail swishing with fierce pride, and stands at your side like a true guardian.

After that, as the two moons climb high and the celebration slowly winds down into happy exhaustion, the villagers begin to drift toward their homes. Torches are doused, songs fade into soft lullabies. Mira leads you to a simple but cozy guest house at the edge of the square—the elders insisted it be prepared for "the spirit." Inside waits a large, comfortable bed of fresh straw and silk (courtesy of your earlier mountain), warm blankets, and a small hearth that lights itself with gentle magic.

You and Mira settle in. She takes a respectful spot on a nearby cot she summons with her new powers, Starfang within easy reach, ever watchful. "Rest well, Lord Grim," she whispers. "I will guard the night."

The village falls peacefully silent under its protective dome. No monsters, no bandits, no worries. Your power hums contentedly in your chest as sleep claims you both—deep, dreamless, and safe.

Morning light filters through the windows. Two suns rise over Eldenwood, birds singing, villagers already moving with new confidence and magic. Mira is awake first, kneeling quietly by your bedside, ready for whatever you desire.
