Chapter 7 - Episode 7 – A Flicker of Trust

After the night of the confrontation, Ariya Verma finally felt the faintest hint of relief. The immediate danger from her stepfather Vikram and mother Meena had been neutralized—at least for now. But the shadow of fear lingered, like a whisper at the edges of her mind.

Arnav Malhotra noticed her quiet tension and approached her one afternoon as she sat in the garden. "You've been holding back," he said softly. "You can trust me, Ariya. You don't have to carry this fear alone."

Ariya's heart skipped. Trust. She hadn't felt safe enough to trust anyone in years—not her mother, not her stepfather, not even herself. But Arnav… somehow, with him, it felt different.

"I… I don't know if I can," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

He sat beside her, calm but unyielding. "You can," he said. "You will. And I'll be right here, every step of the way."

For a long moment, they simply sat together, the quiet garden around them humming with life. Ariya felt warmth she hadn't felt in years—protection, care, and something more, something she couldn't yet name.

Later that evening, Arnav checked on the mansion's security systems, but he paused when he noticed her standing quietly by the window. "Thinking about them?" he asked, referring to her mother and stepfather.

Ariya shook her head. "No… thinking about you," she admitted, cheeks flushing.

Arnav's gaze softened, almost imperceptibly. "You don't have to worry about them. Or about me. I'm here for both," he said, his voice steady.

For the first time, Ariya felt safe enough to imagine a future beyond fear—a future where she could trust, lean on someone, and even let herself feel something like love.

But even in that fragile moment, Ariya knew the danger wasn't gone. Her mother and stepfather were still out there, watching, waiting. And the moment of peace could vanish in an instant.

Yet, as she looked at Arnav, standing there like a silent promise of safety, Ariya allowed herself a small, dangerous hope: that maybe, with him by her side, she could survive—and even thrive—in a world that had always been cruel.
