Waylinn had no choice but to methodically surround every corner of the city. Though time was against him, the urgency burned in his chest.
He forced himself to check each building, one by one. Every step he took was heavy with dread. His heart mingled with the fear that he might be too late to save Heka. The thought of what might have befallen his friend gnawed at him relentlessly.
Minutes stretched into what felt like hours. But finally, his relentless search bore fruit. He found it, the witches' lair. It was hidden behind a veil of dark magic and silence.
Without hesitation, fueled by a surge of anger and desperation, Waylinn charged forward and slammed his claws into the door. The wood splintered and cracked. The shards splintered as the door tore apart under his force.
He roared inside. His eyes blazed with fury and then he saw it.
Heka lay slumped in a chair. He was pale and motionless, his body limp and helpless. The sight struck Waylinn like a blow. He was late. Too late. But somewhere deep inside, a flicker of hope remained. He had to find a way to save Heka, no matter the cost.
Waylinn's mind raced. Nevertheless, he had no idea what horrors the witches had inflicted on his friend. Whatever it was, it was unforgivable
Before he could move further, a figure stepped forward from the shadows. Alaric, the witches' fierce protector, didn't hesitate.
In a flash, he drew his sword, the blade gleaming cold and sharp in the dim light. With a swift, practiced motion, he pointed the weapon directly at Waylinn's chest.
"How dare you break into our sanctuary! You will pay for this insolence." Alaric's voice was low, dangerous, filled with venom.
The vibe thickened with tension, the room charged like a storm about to break. Waylinn's breath hitched, but his resolve hardened. He met Alaric's gaze without flinching, ready to face whatever came next.
Waylinn growled low and fierce, a primal sound that echoed through the dimly lit room. His muscles tensed, ready to spring into action. His sharp claws extended. It gleamed like deadly blades in the faint light, poised to strike at anyone who dared come closer.
Yet, despite his ferocity, he found himself trapped in a perilous situation, caught between enemies on all sides. His options were narrowing with every heartbeat.
On one side, Dorian stood firm, his bow drawn taut. An arrow aimed unerringly at Waylinn's chest.
The vibe was palpable, the slightest movement threatening to unleash a deadly volley. Dorian's eyes burned with cold determination, unwavering and sharp as the arrowhead he held.
On the other side, Corvin crouched beside Heka, his grip tight on a wicked dagger. With a cruel twist of his wrist, the blade glinted menacingly as he prepared to plunge it into Heka's helpless form. The sight sent a surge of rage and desperation through Waylinn's veins.
"I know what you want. Just take him and go. Don't make any mess in here!!!" Dorian's voice cut through the charged silence. It was sharp and commanding.
The threat hung heavy in the air, a warning laced with deadly promise. Waylinn's growl deepened, a warning of his own. He was caught in a deadly standoff, every second stretching taut with danger. The fate of Heka and perhaps much more rested on what happened next.
Corvin pressed the cold, unforgiving dagger deep into Heka's chest. The sharp blade piercing through flesh with a sickening finality.
His voice was low and menacing as he hissed. "If you are obedient, I will not hurt him."
Waylinn's heart clenched with fury and helplessness. Every instinct screamed at him to frazzle them apart, to unleash his wrath and save his friend by force.
But the cruel reality was clear. He had no choice. With a heavy, reluctant step, he moved slowly toward Heka. Each movement was weighed down by the threat looming over them.
Alaric and Dorian stood like statues of menace. Their eyes locked on Waylinn's every move. Their swords were raised, blades gleaming sharply in the dim light, pointed directly at him as if daring him to make a wrong move.
The vibe in the room was suffocating. Like a silent battle of wills played out in the narrow space between them.
"I'm sorry to let you suffer." Waylinn whispered, a bitter edge to his voice. Relief flickered faintly in his chest. Heka was still alive, though barely.
The sight of his friend, half-dead and broken, fueled a desperate determination within him.
Without hesitation, Waylinn bent down and carefully lifted Heka onto his back, cradling his fragile form as if he might shatter at any moment. Time was slipping away, and he knew he had to leave before the situation spiraled into something far worse. Saving Heka was his only priority now.
Suppressing the storm of anger that roared inside him, Waylinn forced himself to ignore the threats and dangers around him.
He ran as fast as his legs could carry him, his focus solely on finding a haven. Somewhere free from harm where he could tend to Heka's wounds and nurse him back to life.
"Heka, hold on a bit longer please…" Waylinn murmured. His voice trembled with hope and fear. His step was weighed down by the weight of uncertainty, but also by the fragile hope that his friend would survive this ordeal.
Deep within the shadowed heart of Dorniphus Forest, Waylinn carefully leaned Heka against the gnarled trunk of a towering, leafless tree. The forest around them was a realm of darkness and despair.
The sky above was choked with thick clouds. It swirled the black mist that seemed to absorb all light. It cast an eerie gloom over the land. The ground beneath their feet was a barren expanse of dark soil, cracked and lifeless.
While the trees stood like silent sentinels, blackened and skeletal, stripped of every leaf, as if the forest itself had been drained of life.
Yet, despite the oppressive darkness, this forsaken place was their sanctuary. At least for now, for a while.
Beyond the dense, shadowy woods stretched the distant expanse of Kiervant Sky, a realm of light and hope, but far beyond Waylinn's reach at this moment.
Grievously, Waylinn knew he did not have the luxury of time. The moments to save Heka were slipping away like grains of sand through his fingers. Every second counted, and the weight of urgency pressed heavily on his shoulders.
With trembling hands, Waylinn extended his leg and gently placed the phoenix bracelet over Heka's chest. The bracelet, a rare and powerful relic, was his last hope. A conduit for soul delivery that could breathe life back into the fading spirit.
As radiant dust shimmered and swirled from the bracelet, weaving its way into Heka's body. Waylinn closed his eyes and whispered a desperate prayer.
"Heka…please wake up!!! I beg you…" His voice was barely more than a murmur, thick with hope and fear.
Time seemed to stretch and bend in the stillness of the forest. The radiant dust glowed softly, casting a faint, warm light against the cold darkness.
Then, slowly, Heka's eyelids fluttered open. His gaze was unfocused, blurred by pain and exhaustion. But the spark of life had returned. His ears caught a sound, a voice, faint but unmistakably familiar.
"Heka…Heka…Heka…" Waylinn's voice called out again, steady and filled with unwavering determination.
"Heka..." The response was barely audible, a fragile whisper carried on a breath. His voice was weak, uncertain if Waylinn could even hear him.
"Waylinn…" Heka barely made a sound. His tone was too low. He was unsure if Waylinn was able to hear or not.
The name was spoken with a fragile hope. A thread connected him back to the world of the living.
