Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Episode 7: The Breaking Point

Sometimes…

It's not one big mistake that breaks love.

It's the silence… the distance… the things left unsaid.

Days passed.

But it felt like weeks.

Samuel and Zara still spoke…

But not like before.

No laughter.

No deep conversations.

No late-night prayers together.

Just short messages.

Cold replies.

Samuel tried.

He really did.

"Good morning, Zara."

"Have a great day."

"Hope you're okay."

But her responses?

"Morning."

"Thanks."

"I'm fine."

Nothing more.

Each reply felt like a wall being built… brick by brick.

One evening, Samuel couldn't take it anymore.

He called her.

"Zara… we need to talk."

She hesitated.

Then picked up.

"What is it?" she asked.

Her voice was calm.

Too calm.

Samuel took a deep breath.

"What are we doing?"

Silence.

"I mean… what is this?" he continued.

"Because this doesn't feel like us anymore."

Zara looked away, even though he couldn't see her.

"I told you I needed time."

"And I gave you time," Samuel replied.

"But now it feels like I'm losing you."

"You're not losing me," she said quickly.

"Then why does it feel like you're already gone?" he asked.

That question hit deep.

But Zara didn't answer it.

Instead, she said something else.

"I've been thinking…"

Samuel's heart tightened.

"Maybe… we rushed into this."

Silence fell heavily between them.

"Rushed?" Samuel repeated slowly.

"We took our time, Zara…"

"Not enough," she said.

Her voice wasn't loud.

But it was firm.

"I thought I was ready… but I'm not," she continued.

"I still have things I haven't healed from."

Samuel closed his eyes.

Pain crept into his chest.

"So what are you saying?" he asked quietly.

Zara hesitated.

Because she knew…

Once she said it—

There was no taking it back.

"I think… we should stop this."

Those words…

Felt like everything collapsing at once.

Samuel didn't speak immediately.

Not because he didn't hear her.

But because he did.

Too clearly.

"Stop?" he finally said.

Zara's voice trembled slightly now.

"Yes…"

"Because of what?" he asked.

"Because of fear? Because of your past?"

"Because I don't want to hurt you!" she said suddenly.

"And this doesn't hurt?" Samuel replied.

Silence.

Tears filled Zara's eyes.

"You don't understand…"

"Then help me understand!" Samuel said, his voice rising slightly for the first time.

"I'm trying to protect both of us!"

"No," he said, shaking his head even though she couldn't see him.

"You're running."

That word hit her hard.

"I'm not running," she said weakly.

"Yes, you are," Samuel replied.

"You're letting your past control your future."

Zara's chest tightened.

"And what if my past is trying to protect me?" she shot back.

Samuel paused.

That question… had weight.

But so did his answer.

"Then it's protecting you from something real," he said.

"Something good."

Tears rolled down Zara's face now.

"I'm scared, Samuel…" she whispered.

His voice softened immediately.

"I know…"

"I don't want to go through that pain again," she said.

"You won't," he replied.

"You don't know that!" she cried.

Silence.

And in that silence…

Everything broke.

"Maybe this is a mistake…" Zara said quietly.

Samuel felt something inside him give way.

"If loving you is a mistake…" he said slowly,

"then it's one I was willing to make."

Zara covered her mouth, trying to hold back her tears.

"But I won't force you to stay," he added.

That was it.

The final line.

The space between them grew wider… and wider…

Until—

There was nothing left to hold on to.

"I'm sorry…" Zara whispered.

Samuel nodded slowly, even though she couldn't see him.

"Take care of yourself," he said.

And then…

The call ended.

Just like that.

No dramatic goodbye.

No second chance in that moment.

Just silence.

That night, Samuel sat alone in the dark.

No lights.

No music.

Just his thoughts.

"God…" he whispered, his voice breaking,

"I thought she was the one…"

Tears fell freely now.

"But if she's not…"

He struggled to finish the sentence.

"Help me let her go."

And Zara…

Curled up on her bed, crying into her pillow.

"I didn't want it to end like this…" she whispered.

She held her chest tightly, as if trying to stop the pain.

"But I didn't know how to stay…"

For the first time since they met—

They both felt the same thing.

Loss.

Not because love wasn't there…

But because fear was stronger.
